A private conversation

At Wayne Manor, Bruce finally had a little time to himself.

Socializing was truly exhausting. He had barely been able to keep up.

Bruce walked to a secluded corner of the manor with a glass of water and gulped down several mouthfuls. After catching his breath, he rubbed his face. Even keeping up a fake smile was exhausting.

People kept asking him all sorts of questions, and as the host of the party, he had to answer unless they touched on something private. He also had to keep smiling the entire time. Not only was his mouth dry from talking, his face was almost stiff.

Baron Mistvale walked over to Bruce with a smile. He could tell that Bruce was already overwhelmed. A young man who was bad at socializing simply would not do; he needed more practice.

"Getting used to it? You'll be attending occasions like this often in the future," Cameron said, his tone slightly teasing.

"Often? Forget it. I can't take it."

Bruce hurriedly waved his hand and shook his head. Being wealthy was truly exhausting, especially when it meant entering high society. There were all sorts of rules of etiquette and standards of behavior, and even his speech had to be restrained. Being a country bumpkin was much freer, without so many restrictions.

Cameron smiled without saying anything.

"I heard from your cousin Danvers that you're planning to study at Isco Higher Academy. It's certainly a good place, but it's in Metropolis. Metropolis may be the kingdom's capital, but it's also a gathering place for many Extraordinaries. Your dark traits are too obvious. They'll make you a target for many people."

Cameron had spoken with Danvers earlier and learned about Bruce's plans, so he offered this well-intentioned warning. He knew many things that Bruce did not.
