Background / History
Bereavement and the inheritance
Danvers grew up at Wayne Manor, surrounded by servants and accustomed to a wealthy household. Her father, Flaikent Wayne, had been a warrior and skilled swordsman; she remembered watching his demonstrations as a child 3 6 23.
After both parents died unexpectedly, Danvers arranged their funeral and faced the prospect of losing her home. The Rune Kingdom’s inheritance laws excluded daughters from inheriting their parents’ estate, leaving her father’s nephew, Bruce Wayne, entitled to the property. Without him, the estate would revert to the kingdom rather than pass to Danvers or her younger sister, Jessica 3 6.
Preparing for possible eviction, she dismissed the servants after paying their outstanding wages and sold a carriage, three horses, and several gowns. She accumulated approximately two hundred silver Rune Coins in the bank as a reserve for herself and Jessica, while concealing those savings from Bruce when explaining the estate’s assets 4 6.
Bruce’s arrival and Jessica’s disappearance
Danvers reluctantly admitted Bruce after repeatedly checking his identification papers. His courtesy reassured her, and she considered marrying him as a way to remain at the manor. Although close-relative marriage was permitted in the Rune Kingdom, Bruce restrained his own attraction to her 6.
That night, Danvers experienced feverish desire, memory confusion, and the appearance of a black rose on her chest. She approached Bruce with wine and sat on his lap, but Jessica interrupted them. Danvers regained her senses and fled in embarrassment; Jessica’s Vengeful Spirit Doll judged that something had beguiled her 8.
Jessica later disappeared with an evil creature following Mondreton’s summoning. Danvers begged the clergy to save her, distressed by the possibility that severe corruption could lead to Jessica’s permanent imprisonment or death. With Bruce’s comfort, she gradually recovered enough to resume responsibility for the household 15 17.
Management of Wayne Manor
Bruce entrusted Danvers with full authority over Wayne Manor while planning further study and business investments. She handled most of the estate’s financial paperwork, including savings, available funds, and monthly expenses 17 21.
She subsequently organized servant recruitment and the manor’s ball, selecting more than thirty qualified candidates and commissioning invitations. Before Bruce’s debut as host, she personally applied his makeup and reassured him about speaking with the guests 34 67 70.
Her attachment to Bruce also made her wary of prospective romantic rivals. She pretended to help her close friend Adele Stewart pursue him while privately intending to obstruct the match. Zatanna Mistvale’s invitation to dance with Bruce, followed by rumors of a marriage alliance, caused further jealousy 47 48 52 67.
The black rose investigation
Danvers initially concealed the rose because she feared the church might regard her as an evil being. She chose to observe the abnormality rather than seek help, since it had produced no lasting harmful symptoms 33.
When the Mistvale Family temporarily exchanged residences with Bruce, Danvers and the servants moved to Mistvale Manor. She interpreted the arrangement as evidence of Zatanna’s influence, unaware that its purpose was to remove ordinary people from danger 83.
Returning home to find the grounds badly damaged, Danvers learned that Bruce was an Extraordinary and had joined the Goddess of the Night Church. Reassured by his church affiliation, she finally revealed the rose. Bruce’s examination with Spirituality Power caused him to collapse into a vision of a historical bloodline-stealing ritual 96.
Afterward, Danvers supplied a family photograph album that confirmed the two children in the vision were Flaikent and Bruce’s father, Jack. Bruce recognized the ritual’s woman as Ashaya, who looked identical to Danvers but was not her. He concluded that Danvers carried an awakened Witch bloodline, though its transmission to Flaikent’s daughter remained unexplained 98.
Bruce promised to continue investigating and asked her to keep the incident private. The warning about her abnormal condition subsequently disappeared from Grand Trend, although he remained uncertain whether the awakening would ultimately be beneficial or harmful. Danvers, meanwhile, promised to care for the manor during his absence 98 99.
Appearance
Danvers is described as having milk-white skin, an exquisite face, and a slender, graceful figure. Bruce’s predecessor knew her reputation as the most beautiful woman in Lane Village 6.
- Black rose mark: Located on the right side of her chest; it appears tattoo-like but manifests without her choosing it 26 96.
- Maturing appearance: Bruce notices that she looks considerably more mature and attributes the change to her awakened Witch bloodline 98.
- Formal presentation: Her tasteful clothing and beauty attract attention at social gatherings 47.
Personality
Danvers is educated, well-mannered, and strongly attached to the security of her childhood home. Her fear of poverty is practical as well as emotional: she recognizes that her upbringing has left her poorly prepared to earn a living. Nevertheless, she settles the dismissed servants’ wages rather than withholding their pay 4 6.
Her grief does not prevent her from taking responsibility. After losing her parents and then Jessica, she gradually resumes household management and accepts Bruce’s trust. She is protective of her family, pleading for Jessica’s rescue and repeatedly worrying about Bruce’s safety 15 17 40 99.
Her affection for Bruce has a possessive side. She conceals her intentions behind friendly matchmaking, resents rumors connecting him to Zatanna, and tries to prevent Adele from speaking to him privately. Despite this jealousy, she does not openly oppose the Mistvale residence exchange, believing that defying nobles could harm Bruce and that an alliance might benefit the Wayne Family 48 67 71 83.
