"How were the undead connected to the plague?" Meryl Winterstorm raised a hand and wiped away the illusion of Mirror Lake. The scene shifted, and the lake gradually became a lush green swamp forest.
The cottage remained in the same spot.
A dense Arcane Wave drifted above the wooden cottage.
Rhonin let out a long sigh and said helplessly, "It's a long story..."
After Rhonin finished recounting how the Cult of the Damned had spread the plague throughout Lordaeron, the Arcane Wave vanished again. The image of the cottage shifted once more, finally becoming a towering black spire.
"The power of the undead comes from a particular world." Meryl pushed open the rear door outside the stables, lowered his left hand, and bowed slightly, inviting Rhonin and Eileen inside.
Rhonin and Eileen knew this tower well. Karazhan had been built centuries ago, and its first owner had been Aegwynn, the mother of Medivh the Guardian.
The Tirisfal Council had a thousand-year legacy, and all mages acknowledged Aegwynn as the most powerful archmage.
Aegwynn's strength surpassed that of every other Guardian. After inheriting the position, she gradually began to free herself from the Council's control.
The Guardian no longer obeyed the Council's instructions, which deeply shocked the elders of the Tirisfal Council. They feared Aegwynn's power. To keep her in check, they even founded a new magical organization, Tiris Garde, to monitor her.
Aegwynn fulfilled her duties as Guardian faithfully. She did not want to surrender her power to the next successor.
After thousands of years of development, the Tirisfal Council's internal structure had long since been corrupted by power and money.
The noble, powerful archmages began setting their sights on authority within the Alliance's kingdoms. Eventually, every Alliance nation had to bow to the whims of the Tirisfal Council's archmages.
