As the fleet entered the waters of Kul Tiras, a pall of gloom was visible in the distant sky.
In regions corrupted by the Scourge, the undead devoured every source of light.
Arthas's knowledge of the Undead Scourge was limited to descriptions of battles in mission reports. He had never seen an actual undead army.
"According to the scouts' intelligence, we can only land at Snowforest Harbor in Drustvar, then travel overland to the Inland Sea of Kul Tiras." Arthas suppressed the faint fear rising within him and discussed the troops' next movements with Mentor Uther.
Uther's expression was grave. The oppressive presence of the Undead Scourge far exceeded anything he had experienced during the Orcs War.
Though individual orcs were powerful, they feared death all the same. The brutality of war and their enemies' fierce fighting spirit could still break their resolve.
The undead were different. They had no thoughts of their own, merely attacking at the command of a single will, or striking at the living out of undead instinct.
"Three months have passed since the war against the Scourge began. During that time, Kul Tiras has shouldered the responsibility of defending the fate of humanity in the Alliance. Had the Undead Scourge attacked Lordaeron, I fear we would be in an even worse position," Uther said heavily.
Arthas strongly resented this sort of argument that inexplicably substituted one target of invasion for another.
Granted, the Undead Scourge was vast and powerful. But Lordaeron's rise as the strongest human kingdom after the Orcs War was proof enough of the kingdom's foundations.
Besides, Lordaeron would never be as arrogant as Kul Tiras.
Since Rowan had taken power, Kul Tiras had pursued isolationist policies in both economic expansion and military operations, showing no regard for the other Alliance nations.
