In the Frost Wastes of Dragonblight, yaks searched the snow for hardy plants as usual, hoping to make it through the bitter winter.
Suddenly, several powerful bulls at the head of the herd stopped before a deep pit. They raised their horns and let out low warning bellows.
The yaks of Dragonblight traveled in herds. Hearing the bulls' warning, the cows at the rear immediately turned and nudged their greedy calves forward with their heads.
The calves had poor awareness of danger and refused to budge. The taste of this fresh, frozen grass was nothing like the dried grass stockpiled in their caves.
"Moo! Moo!" the calves bellowed unwillingly.
But when their young, strong fathers came over and raised their front hooves, the calves instantly behaved, following the herd without any idea why they were running.
"Why are those yaks running?" Rowan stood on the floating platform, looking down at the wastes.
Rhonin stood beside Rowan, equally puzzled.
There were no predators behind the herd. They had no reason to abandon the feeding ground they had just found.
Animals, however, were exceptionally sensitive to changes in their surroundings. Before earthquakes, landslides, and tsunamis, they could always detect danger through underground vibrations and low-frequency sound waves.
Considering the yaks' instincts, Rhonin guessed, "Perhaps there's a predator underground. Northrend has plenty of animals we've never seen before. That wouldn't be unusual..."
"Holy shit, an earthquake?" Rowan's eyes widened as vast cracks opened across the wastes. Amid the tremors, the deep pit became a plunging ravine.
Rhonin cast an enhanced Eagle Eye on Rowan and himself to observe the changes on the ground.
In less than two minutes, the ravine below seemed to turn into a breeding pool for subterranean creatures. Crypt Fiends and Nerub soldiers climbed out in great numbers.
