Ruri joined Kakashi’s team to escort a scroll to the front lines before their comrades ran out of time. After defeating five Jonin who ambushed them, he rested in the Ring and then took over watch from Kakashi.

• Mei Ling prepared breakfast for Ruri, and he packed his mission gear before leaving for the Anbu, where he met Uzuki Yugao and Uchiha Itachi.
• Kakashi and Yamato returned with a new assignment from the Third Hokage: escort a scroll to the front lines within three days while expecting enemy attacks.
• Kakashi led Ruri, Uchiha Itachi, Uzuki Yugao, and Yamato out of Konoha, assigning Ruri and Itachi to protect Yugao during ambushes.
• The team stopped for lunch, and after Uzuki Yugao prepared a meal, Kakashi detected movement in the bushes and Ruri spotted five approaching chakra signatures.
• Five enemy Jonin attacked, but Ruri killed two with Lightning Blade-infused kunai and incapacitated the other three with Shadow Clones and Rasengan.

Ruri and Kakashi’s team traveled toward the front line with a scroll containing a dangerous forbidden technique, staying alert to enemy tactics as exhaustion set in. They camped, shared Ruri’s rabbit stew, and ended the night keeping watch together, with no sign of an attack.

• Ruri reflected on missing his family and friends, and Uzuki Yugao comforted him as they continued toward the mission site.
• Uzuki Yugao told Ruri that the scroll held a powerful, dangerous forbidden technique, and Kakashi urged the team to press on and deliver it on time.
• As the team grew exhausted, Ruri warned that their enemies might be using ordinary attackers to lower their guard before a stronger assault, and Kakashi told everyone to stay vigilant.
• Ruri found and killed three rabbits, then made rabbit and radish stew for the team at their forest camp.

• Ruri won the sabertooth tiger's trust by offering it food and decided to make it his Summoning Beast.
• Ruri brought a wild boar back to camp and spent the night gathering mushrooms and cooking soup.
• Ruri asked Ring Butler Zero how to form a Summoning Beast contract, then completed one with the sabertooth tiger and sent it into the Ring.
• Ruri added mushrooms to the soup at dawn, finished cooking, and went to wake the team.
• Ruri roused Kakashi, Uchiha Itachi, and Yamato so they could wash, eat, and leave on time.
• Kakashi joined Ruri for breakfast, asked about the night, and heard that the boar would feed the team for several days.
