Background / History

Tang San came from Holy Soul Village, where village chief Old Jack brought him to Notting Academy because his family did not handle his enrollment. At their first meeting, Shi Quan recognized him as the current Child of Destiny; Tang San, meanwhile, was curious about Shi Quan’s unusual demeanor 7.

At Notting Academy, Tang San displayed Blue Silver Grass and a yellow spirit ring during the work-study students’ leadership conflict. His martial soul exerted a bloodline-like pressure on Shi Quan’s own Blue Silver Grass 12. He later became Yu Xiaogang’s direct disciple and trained alongside Xiao Wu and the future Shrek members.

Tang San initially possessed an unawakened Blue Silver Emperor bloodline. After choosing the Soul Devouring Flower from the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, his Blue Silver Grass mutated into an ink-black, malicious form, while the bloodline was eroded. Shi Quan ultimately devoured Tang San’s Blue Silver Emperor bloodline after defeating him in the tournament final, preventing its future awakening 142 151 154.

Following this defeat, Tang San secretly began devouring soul beasts to evolve his Blue Silver Grass and Soul Devouring Eight Spider Lances. This rapidly increased his strength but led to life-force theft from opponents and suspicion that he was using forbidden cultivation methods 162 163 167.

The Spirit Hall later examined competitors who had faced him and found lost life force, resulting in Tang San being publicly identified as a Fallen Spirit Master. Tang Hao extracted him from the confrontation, but Xiao Wu was left behind; Tang San and Tang Hao became wanted by both the Spirit Hall and Heaven Dou Empire 187 188.

After Tang Hao’s death, Tang San’s resentment toward Shi Quan and the Martial Soul Empire intensified. He continued cultivating in isolation, devouring soul beasts, corpses, and eventually the inhabitants of Slaughter City in pursuit of revenge and godhood 256 262 328 352 355.

Appearance

As a child, Tang San had short black hair, wheat-colored skin, and plain but clean rural clothing 7. His appearance became increasingly altered by devouring cultivation and killing intent.

  • Ink-black Blue Silver Grass following the Soul Devouring Flower’s absorption 142.
  • Ink-green, later blood-tinged Soul Devouring Eight Spider Lances 142 169.
  • Blood-red Clear Sky Hammer after later transformations 288.
  • Pale skin, pitch-black eyes, and a visibly mad expression after reaching level 90 in underground seclusion 352.
  • Scarlet eyes and a bloodthirsty expression while entering Slaughter City 355.

Personality

Tang San was observant and curious from childhood, taking notice of Shi Quan and later viewing him as a rival. He showed strategic thinking in combat, including his victory over Meng Yiran and his solo defeat of the Elephant Armor Team 99 166.

His defeats and the loss of his Blue Silver Emperor bloodline hardened his determination to surpass Shi Quan. He became convinced that devouring was the correct evolutionary path for Blue Silver Grass, dismissing Shi Quan’s warnings as deliberate deception 154 169.

As his devouring cultivation progressed, Tang San became increasingly secretive, ruthless, and fixated on revenge. He concealed evidence of his actions, prepared excuses for Tang Hao, and justified hunting Fallen Spirit Masters and villains as acting on behalf of heaven 163 255 355.
