Kyoto City, Wangfu Residential Area.
The residential area was brightly lit all night. Soldiers in uniform stood guard everywhere with loaded firearms, and many more patrolled constantly.
Inside one luxurious villa, a bald old man in expensive clothes sat alone, studying the information on a virtual projection while smoking a large pipe.
Smoke curled upward, gradually filling the hall.
The Wang Family Patriarch pondered in silence, a glint of shrewdness in his cloudy eyes. The clock on the wall ticked away until he finally let out a long sigh.
"For the Wang Family, it has to be done!"
The Wang Family was the foremost family in all of Huaxia Country, as well as one of the HR Alliance's nine core families.
But in this world, martial strength was the pillar that supported power. No matter how much authority someone held, it could not outweigh a single word from a true powerhouse.
Never mind a core family like the Wang Family-even the entire HR Alliance or a whole country had to treat Beyond War God-level powerhouses with the utmost courtesy.
"Old Zhou, make the arrangements. We're leaving for Northwest Base City tonight." The Wang Family Patriarch immediately sent a message. This had to be arranged as soon as possible; the longer he delayed, the more likely something would go wrong.
A short while later.
A black, saucer-shaped fighter aircraft rose into the air, becoming a streak of light that vanished into the night.
The thirtieth floor of the Limit General Hall.
Inside the enormous Martial Arts Training Hall, Yang Zheng sat cross-legged in loose training clothes. Six throwing knives hovered nearly half a meter above the floor.
Yang Zheng silently watched the throwing knives floating before him. With a thought, he sent all six drifting around him as though they were dancing.
Had their paths been recorded, they would have revealed an intricate pattern. Each time the knives crossed paths, they narrowly avoided one another.
Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!
The six throwing knives sometimes moved slowly and sometimes accelerated beyond the speed of sound, dancing through the training hall under Yang Zheng's precise control.
Scrape!
However, when Yang Zheng began controlling a seventh throwing knife, the pattern traced by their flight paths was only halfway complete before two knives grazed each other, instantly breaking up the entire formation.
"I can run through the first diagram easily, but once I add the seventh throwing knife for the second diagram, I make a mistake halfway through."
Yang Zheng remained calm. Although he had failed to complete the second diagram, successfully performing the first had already increased his strength considerably.
[Heavenly God Atlas] (1%)
The progress bar deep within his consciousness had lit up. This was a training method for object-control Spirit Readers from the manual Fundamentals of Psychokinesis.
It contained ninety-nine diagrams. Even the strongest Spirit Reader on Earth had only managed to perform the eighteenth.
The Heavenly God Atlas has lit up. Now I just need to follow the progress bar's guidance, and I'll soon be able to master all of it.
Yang Zheng turned his attention inward. Boundless mist swirled through his Sea of Consciousness. The object-control technique Heavenly God Atlas had lit up; next was the mental attack technique, Mental Spike.
Although there were many secret mental attack techniques, most of their effects were actually much the same.
In Fundamentals of Psychokinesis, mental attacks and object-control attacks complemented each other. A mental attack first distracted the opponent, then remotely controlled objects delivered the killing blow.
These so-called secret mental attack techniques were still somewhat lacking.
"Hm?"
"Turn on the projection!"
The entire thirtieth floor of the Limit General Hall had now essentially become his private training space.
In fact, the whole Limit General Hall was rather empty to begin with. Very few martial artists actually trained here. Only a handful of directors and the chairman occasionally came to train.
Flash!
At Yang Zheng's command, the projector in the Martial Arts Training Hall immediately cast a beam of light, and a huge screen appeared on the white wall.
"Dad, what's wrong?"
Wang Jiu appeared on the screen, but beside him stood a bald old man in lavish clothing.
"Come over to Wenxing Winery. There are some things I'd like to discuss with you alone." Wang Jiu seemed reluctant to elaborate. After those few words, he ended the projection call.
"Wenxing Winery... Looks like someone from the Wang Family has arrived." Yang Zheng got up and changed into a combat suit.
Zheng Cang had previously told him about his father's past. But judging by how conflicted Wang Jiu looked now, the Wang Family had probably already persuaded him, and he merely wanted to hear Yang Zheng's opinion.
Wenxing Winery!
It was the only luxury winery in Northwest City. Martial artists often came here to spend money, and occasionally, even War God Level martial artists could be seen.
When Yang Zheng arrived, Wang Jiu was the only person left in the private room. He sat there silently, lost in thought.
"Zheng, you're here!"
Wang Jiu looked up as Yang Zheng arrived. "I expect you've heard a few things from the captain, but he doesn't know the whole story. Sit down first, and I'll explain everything..."
The situation was much as Zheng Cangli had described, but the fundamental cause of the conflict between his father and Wang Yanzhao was the so-called Family Heir Dispute.
The current Wang Family Patriarch had only four children-three sons and one daughter-born to two successive wives.
The eldest son, Wang Yanhui, had originally been the future successor, but he died when a Level-Two Beast Tide suddenly struck during a training expedition in the Wilderness Zone. The second son, Wang Yanming, thus became the leading candidate to inherit.
The third son, Wang Yanzhao, refused to accept this and began scheming against him in all sorts of ways. Later, he tried and failed to kill Yang Zheng's adoptive mother, Yang Rong. Enraged, Wang Jiu crippled him on the spot, but in doing so violated the Family Rules and voluntarily left.
As for Wang Yanzhao being crippled, Yang Zheng suspected that he had deliberately allowed it to happen to force his father, Wang Jiu, out of contention.
"I was blinded by anger at the time. Only after crippling him did I realize something was wrong, but I don't regret it!"
Wang Jiu spoke calmly. Had they not been in a public place, he would have killed Wang Yanzhao outright.
Although they were half brothers, when had Wang Yanzhao ever treated him as a brother? He would stop at nothing to secure the position of family heir.
"Dad, does Mom know about this?"
Yang Zheng frowned. The Wang Family Patriarch had come primarily to bring his father, Wang Jiu, back into the Wang Family. To achieve that, he was even willing to step down as patriarch.
And hand over everyone in Wang Yanzhao's faction.
"Your mother already knows. I wanted to hear what you think." Wang Jiu nodded. He knew perfectly well that although his father wanted him to return to the Wang Family, the most important
reason was Yang Zheng.
He was a High-level War God and a Spirit Reader. Having achieved so much in such a short time, Yang Zheng had every chance of becoming a Councilor Level powerhouse in the future.
If the Wang Family could maintain close ties with a Councilor Level powerhouse, its standing within the HR Alliance would rise tremendously, giving it a greater say.
The HR Alliance had nine core families and financial groups, but the Wang Family held no advantage among them. Within the HR Alliance's Underground Parliament, the major Western financial families still held the upper hand.
The family's interests.
That was why the Wang Family Patriarch had made concessions.
