Background / History
Lu Li awakens memories of his previous life three days before his first expedition outside. Those memories let him recognize the creatures destroying Teran Star as Pokémon, despite the local population calling them demonic or magical beasts. Videos of Caterpie wrecking a car, Onix destroying a high-rise, and Spearow hunting humans convince him that familiar Pokémon knowledge does not make this world safe 1.
He initially stays inside, hoping for official rescue or a special transmigrator power. Once his food runs out, he leaves with a baseball bat and heads toward Zhongxing Mall after finding the nearby convenience store emptied. Jun Shutong rescues him from the mall’s rat-monster territory and brings him to her thirty-seven-member survivor camp 1 2.
Lu Li’s first attempt at becoming a Trainer begins when he rescues a starving Feebas from a trash can. He presents keeping it as research, but his actual goal is to establish a bond and eventually evolve it into Milotic. Jun Shutong permits him to live with Feebas in a separate storefront near the Aquarium, while forbidding him from bringing it into camp 5 6.
Appearance
- Wears a blue-and-white six-panel cap on his first supply expedition 1.
- Later selects clothing suitable for vigorous activity, preferably with plenty of pockets 24.
- Changes into sneakers before crossing the skybridge to the Berthing Hotel, prioritizing his ability to escape 36.
Personality
Lu Li is cautious, pragmatic, and strongly motivated by survival. He avoids unnecessary confrontations and refuses to assume that a Pokémon is harmless merely because he remembers its game or anime counterpart. His planning can be ruthless: he brings Fatty Lei on a dangerous expedition partly to serve as a potential target, and later turns convicted criminals into recurring sacrifices to spare camp residents 1 19 21 33.
His conscience nevertheless places limits on that pragmatism. He considers using Wang Haipeng in a dangerous experiment with Machoke, then rejects the idea because he cannot deceive a good person into risking his life. He admires Jun Shutong’s willingness to protect others, even while arguing against rescue attempts he considers impractical 27 30 32.
Lu Li remains optimistic and capable of finding pleasure amid disaster. His initially strategic investment in Feebas develops into genuine affection, independent of its potential strength. When Beedrill doubts herself, he decides to learn about psychology so he can better support his Pokémon 35 54 106.
Abilities & Skills
Pokémon Knowledge and Research
Memories of Pokémon from his previous life give Lu Li an unusual starting advantage, but he tests that knowledge against real encounters 1 58.
- Identifies Pokémon species, moves, and feeding habits, including Oddish’s Poison Powder and Acid, Palpitoad’s Growl, and electricity-consuming Pokémon 1 31 33.
- Uses Zubat’s resemblance to a blind bat to infer ultrasonic targeting and tells the group to stop moving 20 21.
- Photographs Feebas to track changes and records battle observations in a notebook, distinguishing conjectures from confirmed findings 11 58.
- Explains Pokémon power stages to survivors so they do not mistake their current defenses for invincibility 120.
Pokémon Training and Bond Formation
Lu Li builds relationships through sustained care, feeding, encouragement, and practical training 6 35 49.
- Spends approximately five hours daily feeding and grooming Feebas during its early care 35.
- Teaches Feebas Tackle; after initially failing to understand his demonstrations, it eventually smashes through a solid wall 35 49.
- Learns from using three Poké Balls that they act as “relay stations” giving physical form to Trainer–Pokémon bonds, rather than merely catching and storing Pokémon 101.
- Recognizes that bonds are not guaranteed: Ditto remains distant after being brought home and subsequently escapes 125 126.
Communication and Negotiation
By the university period, Lu Li can understand Pokémon language, command Pokémon stronger than himself, trade with them, and hire them to work 124.
- Approaches Mimikyu without exposing its disguise and proposes regular human visits in exchange for not killing visitors 16.
- Reaches an understanding with Indeedee that allows his group to leave the Berthing Hotel 38 39.
- Offers food and future fruit-flavored cream to persuade Cosmog to join him rather than attempting a forcible capture 126.
- His attempt to communicate mentally with Indeedee does not establish personal psychic talent; Indeedee’s psychic reply causes him severe pain 37 77.
Resource Planning
Lu Li combines immediate scavenging with plans for long-term food and water security 13 100 131.
- Suggests searching vending machines when the camp cannot access the supermarket or safely take Aquarium water 13.
- Helps collect rainwater and recognizes rainy weather as an opportunity for safer supply expeditions 27 28.
- Studies farming experience shared by elderly survivors and requests a survey of residents’ useful skills 31.
- Seeks to establish a large agricultural base at Giant University and later organizes trucks for a bottled-water expedition 100 131.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Baseball bat — Carried when he first leaves his apartment to search for food 1.
- Phone — Used as a flashlight and to photograph Feebas’s development 2 11.
- Radio — Used to contact Jun Shutong during his Berthing Hotel expedition 36.
- Poké Balls — Has three in his possession by Chapter 43 and has used three by Chapter 101 43 101.
- Red Apricorn — Recognizes it as a raw material for making Poké Balls 43.
- Research notebook — Holds observations and hypotheses about Pokémon battles and biology 58.
- Study materials from Indeedee — Receives books containing Indeedee’s knowledge and notes, which he subsequently copies 117 125.
- Rain Dance Technical Machine — A gift from Magneton. Lu Li values its weather-changing potential, but the provided account does not show him using it 127.
Relationships
Human Allies and Associates
- Jun Shutong — Rescuer, camp leader, and close collaborator. She appoints him deputy and regards his Pokémon research as a source of hope for the camp; he admires her courage while restraining her riskier impulses 2 15 27 28 32.
- Lei Hao / Fatty Lei — Early friend and camp administrator. Lu Li helps create an opportunity for his promotion while also using him as a possible decoy. After Lei loses his position, Lu Li is willing to give him another chance, though reinstatement remains unresolved 18 19 21 130.
- An Kang — Former Federation Bank branch manager whom Lu Li recommends to help develop the camp’s contribution-points system 23.
- Wang Haipeng — Survivor whom Lu Li welcomes after learning that he rescued an unrelated little girl. Lu Li’s respect for his character prevents him from using Wang in a dangerous experiment 30.
- Zhao Limin and Mrs. Zhao — Contacts for a textile experiment. Lu Li asks Mrs. Zhao, an experienced silkworm rearer and silk maker, to try weaving cloth from a Pokémon’s String Shot 63 65.
- Yao Xia — Works alongside Lu Li during the criminal-camp events and later receives instructions to wash and feed Yang Rui before questioning him further 77 82 93.
- Liu Nuo — University survivor who becomes convinced that Lu Li is a magical beast in human form because of his communication, training, and negotiating abilities. This is Liu Nuo’s belief, not a confirmed identity 103 124.
- Fan Heng — Opposes Lu Li at the university, denouncing him as a dictator during a collective demand to leave 112.
Pokémon Companions and Allies
- Xiaomei / Little Beauty (Feebas) — First Pokémon companion and his original hope for survival through a future Milotic evolution. Their bond becomes genuinely affectionate, and Xiaomei learns Tackle under his guidance; no Milotic evolution is documented 5 6 35 49.
- Yellow (Weedle → Kakuna → Beedrill) — Combat partner and scout. Weedle’s evolution appears to strengthen Lu Li through their connection; as Beedrill, she searches for Pokémon, breaks restraints precisely, and accompanies him on expeditions 69 73 74 77 83 96.
- Turtwig — Companion who dislikes the mall’s towering buildings. Lu Li helps it settle into fertile university soil to absorb Earth Power 96 106.
- Indeedee — Powerful ally, cook, caretaker, and teacher. Lu Li invites him to Dawn Camp for its positive emotions, leaves Pokémon in his care, and later receives study materials from him 40 54 96 117.
- Mimikyu — Arcade resident with whom Lu Li establishes a recurring visitor arrangement. Their interactions repeatedly expose him to Confuse Ray 16 17 34 35.
- Clover Alcremie — Potential ally who shares fresh cream with Lu Li. He later offers payment for turning his remaining Miltank milk into whipped cream 89 118.
- Ditto — Brought home in an attempt to build a bond, but remains distant and escapes during the night 125 126.
- Magneton — Gives Lu Li a Rain Dance Technical Machine and anxiously asks whether he likes the gift 127.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Dawn Camp’s Pokémon Adviser
- Becomes Jun Shutong’s deputy after devising the Arcade arrangement, but declines responsibility for routine administration so he can concentrate on research 15 17.
- Helps the group survive a Zubat encounter through behavioral analysis, earning the confidence—and wariness—of Huang Jiafei and Old Xu 20 21.
- Recruits An Kang’s financial expertise for the contribution-points system and approves the name Dawn Camp 23 26.
Reusable Sacrifices
- Initially conceals Anke Camp’s abuses because he fears Jun Shutong will risk herself trying to rescue its survivors 23.
- Later persuades her not to launch a direct intervention, citing limited ammunition, uncertain successors, and the danger of moving large groups outdoors 32.
- Arranges for Zhao Zhu and three accomplices to replace camp residents as recurring Arcade sacrifices. He regards the resulting respite as another twenty days in which to develop as a Trainer 33.
Expanding Beyond Feebas
- Negotiates the release of the Berthing Hotel expedition and receives supplies from Indeedee, but hides Indeedee’s willingness to house the entire camp because the camp’s continued existence benefits him 38 39.
- Watches Machoke fight the Raticate pack to assess their strength, then records his observations for later testing 57 58.
- With Beedrill available, participates in the operation against the Demon Camp. Beedrill opens the cage holding Yao Xia’s daughter 75 77.
- Searches for Golem using information from Yuan Zhe, but instead discovers six Pichu taking turns drawing electricity from a diesel generator 83.
Giant University and Long-Term Survival
- Investigates alternative housing because Anke Residential Community is unsafe, then announces plans for an agricultural base at Giant University and promises weekly visits to the mall survivors 96 100.
- The survivors view him as a pioneer because he is the first and only person they know to have tamed a magical beast 100.
- Encounters the university survivors’ discussion-based leadership structure and later confronts Fan Heng’s group over their demand to leave 103 112.
- Warns his followers about Pokémon power levels and their destructive capabilities rather than allowing them to believe the camp is invincible 120.
Recruitment and Infrastructure
- Fails to retain Ditto, then attempts to recruit Cosmog through food and persuasion 125 126.
- Receives Magneton’s Rain Dance Technical Machine and recognizes its potential value in Teran Star’s conditions 127.
- Treats Fatty Lei’s downfall as a warning that authority without strength is insecure, while considering giving his former associate another opportunity 130.
- Plans an expedition to the large water plant on Fenghe Road, requesting operational water trucks, cargo trucks, and drivers 131.
