Squirtle could put up with poorer living conditions. Caves, sand pits-it wasn't as if he had never lived in places like those, and for years at a time, too.
But the food couldn't get any worse, or getting caught would have been for nothing.
The rest of the voyage was, on the whole, uneventful. There were no maritime disasters, let alone pirates. It was basically a vacation.
As the S.S. Anne gradually entered the waters of the Hoenn Region, the temperature rose, and the holiday atmosphere on deck grew stronger.
After a few days of medication and adjustment, Litten had gotten used to the ship's rocking. No longer as miserable as when first boarding, Litten could move around outside normally.

Besides, Squirtle was floating on the water, serving as a lifeguard.
"Squirtle. (I'm out of food. Sorry for the trouble, but could you get me some more?)"
Squirtle floated over to the side of the pool on his back. The plate on his belly shell was completely empty, and he was waiting for a companion at the poolside to replenish it.
"Meow. (I still think swimming on a ship feels weird.)"
Meownei tossed a box of biscuits
