Among Fire-type starter Pokémon, abilities like Blaze were the norm, while Meownei's Protean was comparatively rare. Before a Pokémon hatched, no one knew what ability it would have.

Normally, this ability only activated when a Pokémon's HP fell below one-third. There were no such precise health bars in real life, but in general, the ability still only activated at low HP.

A Pokémon like Litten, who activated Blaze at full health...

Was an exceptionally rare case. After all, Pokémon were creatures whose powers were rather influenced by their beliefs. Apparently, a certain Squirtle had also mastered the special ability to activate Torrent at full health.

That Squirtle's way of doing it, however, was to believe it was in grave danger. Even at full health, it felt as though it was at low HP.

And so, it could naturally enter Torrent.

As for Litten...

Whatever the reason, she had entered Blaze.

"Use Ember again!"

"Meowrr!"

The same move produced a completely different result. Just moments ago, Bullet Seed had been able to cancel out Litten's Ember, largely because of her own "frugality."

Litten had controlled the strength of her flames so that they were just powerful enough to destroy Treecko's Bullet Seed, without wasting any extra fuel.

But with Blaze boosting her power enormously, things were different. The bullets fired by Bullet Seed were essentially just individual seeds. Some were formed from Grass-type energy inside the body, while others had been stored by the Pokémon beforehand.

Just as Litten could store her fur as fuel, many Grass-type Pokémon stored seeds in their bodies when they ate Berries and other seeded fruits, using them as a means of attack when the time was right.

Although a Pokémon's energy could make those seeds act like bullets, it did not change their fundamental nature.
