Energy surged through Xiao Wu in the dense woods as he activated Extreme Speed, then charged into the forest at top speed. He deftly dodged two stumps before slamming hard into the third.
"Wuu~" (That hurt! Chu Xin, I can't do this anymore!)
Chu Xin could only shake his head helplessly beside him. Xiao Wu's control over Extreme Speed was simply too poor!
Although the dense forest really wasn't suited to using Extreme Speed, that was no excuse for Xiao Wu to crash into the third stump!
"Xiao Wu, you can't keep doing this. Extreme Speed might be hard to control, but you can still master it if you put your mind to it. You need to learn to control your energy, Xiao Wu. Only then can you control Extreme Speed."
Chu Xin gently rubbed Xiao Wu's bruised forehead, his heart aching, while carefully explaining the details he needed to watch out for.
But Xiao Wu's eyes misted over as he looked pitifully at Chu Xin.
"Wuu~!" (But that's really hard!)
What am I supposed to do? Xiao Wu can't control his energy at all right now, let alone use Extreme Speed precisely!
What should I do? Chu Xin had no idea. After all, he had never dealt with Pokémon before, and this was his first time being a Trainer. How was he supposed to help a Pokémon control his energy? Wasn't repeated use supposed to lead to mastery?
Waiting online for answers. Urgent!
Seeing how anxious Chu Xin was, Xiao Wu felt just as lost. He knew Chu Xin was trying to help him grow stronger. If he could get a little stronger, he wouldn't have lost to that Growlithe!
I'm so useless.
Aier, the maid standing nearby, took in their dejected expressions. She hadn't expected her young master to be taking Xiao Wu's training seriously rather than just playing around.
But it seemed they had run into some trouble.
"Do you need any help?"
Aier stepped forward and looked at Chu Xin with an impassive expression. She had only come along to heal Xiao Wu if he got hurt during training, but at this rate, forget training-even dealing with his injuries would be a headache!
"Aier, please help me!"
When Chu Xin saw Aier step forward, it was as though his savior had arrived. He wrapped his arms around her waist and looked up at her pitifully.
"Honestly, I'm right here, aren't I? You can ask me if something's wrong."
Aier really didn't know what to do with Chu Xin. Having him cling to her was such a nuisance. She didn't want to coax a little child.
"You're the best!"
Chu Xin looked at Aier gratefully, then explained the problem he was facing.
"He can't control the energy for Extreme Speed, so he can't dash through this forest while using it?"
Aier gave Chu Xin a puzzled look. What kind of training was this?
Chu Xin nodded, then explained his training method.
"There are so many trees in this forest that it's hard to dash through it. A Pokémon needs excellent reflexes and physical fitness to do that, so I chose this spot to train Xiao Wu. To make it harder, I also asked him to use Extreme Speed to get through this area. That way, he can practice the move at the same time."
"And with you here, we don't have to worry about injuries. It'll also help Xiao Wu learn to take a hit."
Chu Xin smiled and scratched his head, clearly not all that confident in his wild idea. Xiao Wu hadn't made it through even once, which had left Chu Xin doubting his approach.
"It's quite good. It sounds a little far-fetched, but in practice, it could be surprisingly effective."
As Garchomp's Trainer, Aier could see the advantages just from hearing Chu Xin explain his training method.
It really was a good method, perfectly suited to a baby like Xiao Wu who had only recently been born. It would help build his physical fitness for the future.
Unfortunately, this method only worked for young Monsters whose basic development was still lacking. It would have almost no effect on mature Monsters.
If Garchomp tried it, he would probably smash every tree around him. It wouldn't do him any good at all!
"Roar!" (You really get me.)
Garchomp gave Aier a thumbs-up.
Now that she understood the idea behind the training, Aier began looking for a solution. She reached out and felt Xiao Wu's body, finally arriving at an answer after a long while.
"Unfortunately, while there's nothing wrong with your approach, it isn't quite suitable for Xiao Wu right now."
"Why? Why can't Xiao Wu do it?"
Hearing Aier's answer, Chu Xin questioned her anxiously. He had spent a long time coming up with this method.
Aier also looked at Xiao Wu in puzzlement.
"This method really is very effective for newborn Monsters."
"Pokémon!"
"All right, all right. Pokémon."
Aier humored Chu Xin helplessly while continuing her explanation.
"This training method really is effective, but it isn't suitable for Xiao Wu. There's a peculiar energy filling his entire body. It's quite extraordinary, and it isn't harmful to him."
"But precisely because he has this extraordinary energy inside him, it keeps interfering with his control. That makes it difficult for Xiao Wu to properly control the flow of energy in his moves."
The energy inside Xiao Wu? Isn't that life energy?
Every Dratini's body was filled with life energy during infancy, nourishing their growth each day. It was supposed to be a good thing, yet now it was actually getting in the way of Xiao Wu's training!
"Then what should we do? Does that mean Xiao Wu can't train?"
Chu Xin looked at Xiao Wu with a miserable expression, and Xiao Wu was upset too.
"It's not that bad. There are other ways."
As she spoke, Aier took a necklace with a stone attached out of her pocket and put it around Xiao Wu's neck.
"Wuu?"
"What's this?"
Both Xiao Wu and Chu Xin looked curiously at the stone on the necklace.
"This is an Everstone. It can suppress some energy, so it might help Xiao Wu."
An Everstone? Doesn't that only prevent Pokémon from evolving? How can it suppress energy now?
But after thinking it over, Chu Xin realized it did make sense. If an Everstone could prevent a Pokémon from evolving, wasn't it suppressing the energy used for evolution?
If that's really how it works, then the Everstone has quite a nasty catch.
Xiao Wu looked curiously at the Everstone resting against his chest. Could this thing really work?
Xiao Wu opened his mouth, gathering Dragon Rage before firing it at a nearby tree. Sure enough, it was much weaker!
"Wuu!" (It works!)
Chu Xin breathed a sigh of relief after hearing Xiao Wu's answer.
As long as it worked, they could move on with their training!
"Thank you, Aier."
"It's nothing. It's what I'm supposed to do."
