Looking at the Dragonite scale in his hand, Chu Xin could not help feeling a little awed. Only now did he feel that Chen Huan really was a Gym Leader-he certainly had some good stuff on him.
Even just holding the scale, Chu Xin could feel a powerful energy, as though a furious dragon were roaring beside his ear. It really was something special.
Although it was not an item from the games, Chu Xin could tell just by holding it that this scale was a perfect fit for Xiao Wu.
"Old man Chen, what other good stuff have you got?"
Chu Xin stared at the scale in his hand, momentarily distracted enough to blurt out his thoughts. Chen Huan's mustache bristled when he heard him, and he shot Chu Xin a glare.
What did he just call me? Insolent brat!
He wanted to fire back with a few sharp words, but he had barely opened his mouth before he helplessly closed it again.
This is our biggest customer. What if my smart mouth drives him away? Am I supposed to go back to living on thin air like before?
Forget it. I'll pretend I didn't hear that!
Chu Xin came back to his senses and looked at Chen Huan excitedly. The man was a walking treasure trove! Any item he casually pulled out could keep Chu Xin going for ages. Who knew what else he had?
"Gym Leader Chen, do you have any other treasures suitable for Xiao Wu? I'm willing to trade Pokéblocks for them."
Chen Huan glared at Chu Xin in indignation. Why did this brat keep pushing his luck?
"I may be poor, but I'm not stupid. Trade treasures like these for Pokéblocks? Do you think I've lost my mind?"
Chu Xin scratched his head awkwardly. Chen Huan's reaction did not surprise him. A treasure like this was clearly not easy to obtain, and he was already happy to have gotten even one.
"Thank you, Gym Leader Chen. I'll put this treasure to good use."
"Hey, don't thank me yet. I'm lending this to you. Remember to return it when the time comes."
Chu Xin nodded, looking at the Dragonite scale in his palm with some regret. Although he could use it for a while, this treasure was not his, after all. He would have to help Xiao Wu grasp the Dragon-type energy within it as quickly as possible while they could still borrow it.
Chen Huan then took a book out of his pocket and handed it to Chu Xin.
"These are my old notes. They contain a lot of what I learned about raising Pokémon, including training in energy control. That helps monsters learn new moves a great deal. Moves are ultimately just applications of energy. Read through it carefully-it'll be a big help to you."
Chu Xin solemnly accepted Chen Huan's notebook. These were a Gym Leader's training notes! Even Aier beside him looked a little surprised. They were incredibly important to Chu Xin at this stage.
Chu Xin took a deep breath and looked earnestly at Chen Huan.
"Gym Leader Chen, thank you. This book means a lot to me."
He then motioned for Aier to take out a large box and hand it to Chen Huan.
"This is the monthly supply of Pokéblocks my dad gave me. There are three hundred Pokéblocks inside. I'm sorry I haven't shown you proper respect before. From now on, I'll have my father send three hundred and fifty Pokéblocks every month. Consider it my tuition."
After saying this, Chu Xin hugged the book in his arms and excitedly left with Xiao Wu and Aier. He wanted to study the Gym Leader's training notes properly.
Chen Huan stared blankly as Chu Xin left the Gym, then looked at the box left on the floor. His whole body seemed to have turned to stone. Only his mouth could move, vacantly stammering a few syllables.
"Th... th... three..."
Meanwhile, Vespiquen, carrying four Pokéblocks and resisting the urge to swallow them for the sake of her underlings, finally managed to find the petrified Chen Huan.
"Chirp, chirp chirp."
Vespiquen held out the Pokéblocks in her hands, asking Chen Huan to help deal with them. But the petrified Chen Huan did not respond at all. Frightened, Vespiquen carefully set the Pokéblocks aside, raised her hands, and tapped his head.
"Don't touch me. Give me another moment to recover."
"Chirp chirp?"
"I'm fine. I'm just a little overwhelmed. Let me calm down."
Vespiquen breathed a sigh of relief, then hurriedly placed the four Pokéblocks in front of Chen Huan.
"Chirp chirp chirp!"
"They're only a few Pokéblocks. Eat them if you want. You and your underlings are getting an extra meal in a bit!"
"Chirp chirp?"
Vespiquen felt the spot she had just tapped. Had she hit Chen Huan too hard and knocked him senseless?
Chen Huan impatiently brushed her little hand away.
"I haven't gone crazy. They're just a few Pokéblocks. Let me show you a real treasure!"
With that, Chen Huan opened the box Chu Xin had left behind in front of Vespiquen.
A fresh fragrance instantly filled the room. Vespiquen stared blankly at the box in Chen Huan's hands, her mind beginning to go hazy.
"There are three hundred Pokéblocks in here. Enough for all of us to eat!"
Vespiquen shuddered, wobbled, and dropped to the floor.
Is... is this heaven?
Chen Huan picked up Vespiquen and continued.
"This is only part of it. From now on, we'll get three hundred and fifty Pokéblocks every month. We're going to be living the good life!"
After hearing those words, Vespiquen passed out completely in Chen Huan's arms.
This... this is definitely heaven!
"Hey, hey, don't fall asleep! Wake up! Wake up!"
Chu Xin was just as excited. The moment he returned to the villa, he began reading the book. He spent the entire afternoon on it without even finding time for dinner, and when he went to bed that night, he fell asleep with the book in his arms.
By the next day, Chu Xin had finally gained a general understanding of the book's contents.
How should I put it? These really are a Gym Leader's notes. They offered detailed explanations of many things he had not understood, making them tremendously helpful to him.
But Chu Xin also finally understood why Chen Huan seemed so unreliable. It turned out he only had one Pokémon: that Vespiquen.
The entire book described Chen Huan's experiences raising Vespiquen in detail, and he truly had many unique insights into her. It was no exaggeration to say that following the methods laid out in the book could produce a Vespiquen with the strength of a Gym Leader.
Although Chu Xin admired Chen Huan, such an extreme approach was not quite right for him. After all, training only one Pokémon had far too many drawbacks. Pokémon was ultimately a turn-based game, and having just one Pokémon put a trainer at a significant disadvantage in battle. Otherwise, Chen Huan would not have remained merely a Gym Leader.
Still, Chen Huan's notes contained plenty of knowledge Chu Xin needed. After studying them thoroughly, Chu Xin finally had a training plan tailored to Xiao Wu. Now they could begin the next stage of Xiao Wu's training!
Chu Xin put away his notes and headed toward the training grounds with Xiao Wu.
Perhaps Xiao Wu could not beat that Growlithe yet, but in two months, that might no longer be the case.
Little Lei Jing, I hope you won't cry when the time comes!
Meanwhile, Chen Huan frowned at another Dragonite scale in his hand. He seemed to have handed over the wrong one.
