Zhuo Yuan was the last to leave the inn. Although he had agreed to Chu Xin's terms, he did not believe Chu Xin could defeat Bai Le.
Lei Xiao did not leave with Zhuo Yuan. Instead, she sat down to have a chat with Chu Xin.
"You certainly seem confident. You think Xiao Wu can beat that Scyther?"
Chu Xin smiled at Lei Xiao, but rather than answer her directly, he remained evasive.
"Who knows?"
"If you don't want to tell me, just say so. Looks like you really do want to become the Champion. But before you can beat Bai Le, you'll have to beat Lei Jing first."
"Wow, big sis Lei Xiao, doesn't that count as leaking information? Aren't you afraid Grandpa Zhuo Yuan will scold you?"
Lei Xiao curled her lip and gave Chu Xin a disdainful look.
"Would I tell you if I were afraid? I only came here to watch the show anyway. Once the tournament is over, I'm taking Lei Jing to the Police Academy. That kid's a real handful, so some discipline will do him good. What do you say? Want to come along?"
Lei Xiao gave Chu Xin a mischievous look, and her words sent a shiver down his spine.
"No thanks. I think Jindu Academy is pretty good."
Chu Xin had no desire to attend the Police Academy. Once he enrolled there, he would have no time to take on Victory Road. His dream was to become a Pokémon Champion.
"Fine, don't come, then. No need to look so disgusted. Anyway, I should get going. I'm really looking forward to your match with Lei Jing tomorrow."
Chu Xin smiled at Lei Xiao, his eyes brimming with fighting spirit.
"This time, I'll beat that Growlithe. Xiao Wu and I will wipe away the shame of our defeat!"
Lei Xiao smiled at Chu Xin's eagerness. She had never expected the kid to hold such a grudge. Luckily, she had given Growlithe to someone else, or Chu Xin would have challenged her sooner or later.
The next day, Chu Xin arrived with Xiao Wu, both full of energy. Xiao Wu gazed at the arena with fighting spirit written all over his face. Today was the day he would wipe away his humiliation. He still remembered every detail of the battle in which that Growlithe had bullied him. This time, he would defeat that Growlithe!
Before he even entered the arena, Chu Xin ran into Lei Jing outside. He really did not want to see this brat.
"It's finally time for our match. I've been looking forward to this."
Lei Jing was still as full of himself as ever, and the sight irritated Chu Xin.
"The sooner you face me, the sooner you'll get knocked out. This time, Growlithe won't beat Xiao Wu and me so easily."
With that, Chu Xin turned and walked into the arena. He could hardly wait to battle Growlithe.
The match soon began, and Lei Jing looked at Chu Xin with a serious expression.
"I've actually known about you for a long time. You and Xiao Wu are among the few my aunt Lei Xiao has ever praised, so you caught my interest ages ago. Today, I finally get to battle you. Show me what makes someone my aunt praised so special!"
Chu Xin opened Xiao Wu's Poké Ball and summoned him onto the field.
"I'll show you!"
Lei Jing did not reply. He immediately ordered Growlithe to charge at Xiao Wu.
Growlithe was a very brave Pokémon, and he showed his opponents no mercy. Although Xiao Wu had grown considerably through his long training, he still needed to be careful against a Growlithe trained by Lei Xiao.
"Xiao Wu, use Agility to put some distance between you and Growlithe. Don't let him get close!"
"Growlithe, don't let your opponent escape! Charge straight in!"
Although Xiao Wu had used Agility to put some distance between himself and Growlithe, Lei Jing's Growlithe also began accelerating, clearly using Agility as well. Xiao Wu was noticeably slower than Growlithe, and the gap between the two Pokémon rapidly closed.
"Growlithe, use Fire Fang to bite down on your opponent! Don't let him escape!"
Who said we were going to run?
"Xiao Wu, use Dragon Rage! Show Growlithe what we can do!"
Fierce flames shot from Xiao Wu's mouth. The blue fire hurtled toward Growlithe, cutting off his attack and forcing him to dodge Dragon Rage.
"Xiao Wu, use Dragon Tail to knock Growlithe aside! Don't let him keep closing in!"
Taking advantage of Growlithe's evasive movement, Xiao Wu swung his Dragon Tail at him.
"Growlithe, Protect!"
Hearing Lei Xiao's command, Growlithe immediately steadied himself. A faint glow radiated from his body, and a strange force blocked Xiao Wu's attack.
"Xiao Wu, now! Use Bind to wrap up your opponent! Don't let Growlithe keep moving!"
Xiao Wu quickly coiled around Growlithe, holding him with such tremendous strength that Growlithe could not break free.
"Growlithe, use Flame Wheel!"
Chu Xin looked at Lei Jing confidently. That sort of move would not work anymore!
"Xiao Wu, use Thunder Wave! Interrupt his attack!"
What? At this range, Thunder Wave would hurt both Monsters. Was he still going to use it to interrupt Growlithe's attack?
"Growlithe, hang in there!"
Lei Jing had no other options now. He could only pin his hopes on Growlithe and pray that he could withstand Xiao Wu's attack.
Soon, the Thunder Wave radiating from Xiao Wu enveloped both Pokémon. Held fast by Bind, Growlithe could not move, and Thunder Wave interrupted his attack.
Thunder Wave's electric shocks engulfed both Pokémon. Even Growlithe could not help howling. Clearly, Thunder Wave at such close range had hurt him badly.
Lei Jing watched anxiously from the sidelines. All he could do now was wait for Dratini's attack to end. At that range, Thunder Wave would inflict considerable damage even on Xiao Wu. Xiao Wu could not keep using a move that hurt himself along with his opponent for long.
Indeed, Xiao Wu was taking damage too. Thunder Wave not only hurt both Pokémon, but also paralyzed them. However, Xiao Wu had undergone paralysis training, so his resistance to Thunder Wave was far greater than Growlithe's!
Trapped in Bind, Growlithe endured Thunder Wave's assault. Finally, Xiao Wu released his Bind, and Thunder Wave stopped as well. Growlithe staggered away to create some distance, his paralysis making it difficult for him to control his body.
"Now, Xiao Wu! Press the advantage!"
"Impossible! Xiao Wu's paralyzed too! He can't attack!"
Lei Jing protested from the sidelines when he heard Chu Xin's command, but Xiao Wu had already risen from the ground and swung his massive Dragon Tail at Growlithe.
"Nothing is impossible! We trained specifically to beat Growlithe. Send him flying, Xiao Wu!"
The massive Dragon Tail sent the paralyzed Growlithe flying into the air. Before Chu Xin could even give another command, blue flames burst from Xiao Wu's mouth and shot toward the airborne Growlithe.
In the end, Growlithe could not withstand Dragon Rage. He fell to the ground unconscious.
We finally won!
