Training an Ability was a slow process, like water wearing through stone. Chu Xin had no intention of making Xiao Wu master it in a few days. A passive skill like this needed plenty of practice before it could be used proficiently.
Still, the past few days of training had certainly helped Xiao Wu. The physical conditioning had improved his stamina, and then there were his two moves, Thunder Wave and Dragon Tail.
Xiao Wu had learned both moves during Chu Xin's training. Thunder Wave went without saying: it inflicted a little damage while leaving the opponent paralyzed.
Now Chu Xin no longer needed to ask the maid Aier for a paralysis potion. With Thunder Wave readily available, Little Moo could paralyze himself. He was completely self-sufficient!
Poor Xiao Wu's training had become even more miserable. Not only did he have to paralyze himself with his own move, but he also had to keep exercising while paralyzed. His trainer had no humanity!
The other move, Dragon Tail, was a simple application of Dragon-type energy. By coating his tail with it, he could send an opponent flying.
In the games, this move could only be learned at level 15, but Chu Xin didn't think Xiao Wu had reached that level yet. His physical capabilities spoke for themselves-he was practically still a baby.
Chu Xin attributed Xiao Wu's success in learning Dragon Tail to his training with Dragon-type energy. After all, one part of his training was to become proficient at using Dragon Rage.
Although Xiao Wu still couldn't use Dragon Rage proficiently, he had become more adept at handling Dragon-type energy. Compared to Dragon Rage, Dragon Tail was much simpler. Perhaps that was why Xiao Wu had managed to learn it.
Of course, the more moves he learned, the better. What Pokémon would complain about having too many moves?
Learning Dragon Tail had made Chu Xin realize the importance of energy training. Reality wasn't like a game, where leveling up automatically unlocked moves. If Xiao Wu wanted to learn more moves, he would have to become proficient at using the energy within his body.
It would've been great if Xiao Wu's Egg Move had been Dragon Pulse. Then he'd be better at handling Dragon-type energy. But Extreme Speed is really tempting too. What a dilemma!
Suddenly, fierce gusts swept across the field as a familiar helicopter landed.
"That's-Dad! Aier, get me my cap, quick!"
At the sight of the familiar helicopter, Chu Xin hurriedly asked Aier to fetch his cap. He didn't want Chu Lian seeing what a sorry state he was in.
The Dratini beside him hid behind Chu Xin, watching the enormous machine descend with curiosity.
Although Xiao Wu was already quite bold, his instinct to avoid danger had sent him straight behind Chu Xin. With Chu Xin there to face the danger, everything would be fine!
Chu Xin adjusted the red cap on his head. He had specially prepared this cap to match Red's, intending to wear it later. He hadn't expected its debut to happen like this.
The moment Chu Lian stepped out of the helicopter, he spotted Chu Xin wearing his cap and remembered the sorry sight of his son on the surveillance footage.
He probably doesn't know I've already watched the footage. If his mother were here, she'd definitely tease him mercilessly. I'd better leave it alone.
"Dad, what brings you here?"
Chu Lian patted Chu Xin's head, smiling at his son.
"I came to see you. Oh, let me introduce you. This is your Auntie Lei Xiao."
"Hello, Auntie Lei Xiao."
As he greeted her, Chu Xin studied this stranger who had suddenly come to visit.
Her police uniform made her look dashing and commanding. Auntie Lei Xiao was really pretty!
Chu Xin's gaze drifted upward without him noticing. Holy crap, that's dazzling!
He quickly lowered his head, putting on the appearance of a well-behaved child.
"Hahaha, Chu Lian, your boy's grown up nicely. What a handsome little fellow."
Lei Xiao clearly didn't mind that her uniform was a little too small. She patted Chu Xin's shoulder and chatted with Chu Lian, smiling.
Holy crap, she's got a heavy hand!
That single pat left Chu Xin's shoulder aching. Lei Xiao really was a police officer-she was seriously strong.
Suddenly, a powerful tail lashed toward the hand Lei Xiao had resting on Chu Xin's shoulder. But as a police officer, she instantly pulled her hand back and dodged the blow.
"Moo!" (Bad person!) (艹皿艹)!
Chu Xin hurried to soothe Xiao Wu.
"Xiao Wu, she's not a bad person."
Xiao Wu tilted his tiny head at Chu Xin in confusion. He didn't understand why Chu Xin had stopped him when he was clearly in pain, but since Chu Xin had said so, he stopped going after the unfamiliar woman. Still, bullying Chu Xin was absolutely forbidden!!
"I'm sorry, Big Sis Lei Xiao. It's my fault for not keeping a closer eye on Xiao Wu."
Lei Xiao clearly hadn't taken the incident to heart. She smiled at Chu Xin.
"Good. Call me Big Sis from now on. All this 'Auntie' business makes me sound old."
Then Lei Xiao looked at Xiao Wu, who was glaring at her from behind Chu Xin, with surprise in her eyes.
"That's a Dratini, isn't it? Is it your magical beast? It looks very healthy, and it's loyal to its owner too."
"This is my Pokémon. I only hatched him recently!"
"Pokémon? What's that?"
"It's what I call Xiao Wu. I prefer calling them Pokémon rather than magical beasts. It feels more affectionate."
Chu Xin stood to one side, feeling helpless. His own child just had this little quirk.
"Hahaha, very nice, kid. I like your attitude toward magical beasts. They should be treated as partners!"
As she spoke, Lei Xiao took out her Poké Ball.
"Let me show you my partner. I only caught this one recently."
With a flash of white light, a little yellow-furred dog appeared before them.
"That's-that's a Growlithe!"
Its coat was orange-yellow, with a creamy yellow muzzle, underside, and tail. Black stripes ran along its back and legs, while creamy yellow fur formed a mane around its head and neck. What else could it be but a Growlithe?
The moment Growlithe emerged, the little dog pounced on Lei Xiao. With remarkable jumping power, Growlithe leaped straight onto her chest, steadied against the two enormous supports, and stuck out a tongue to lick all over her face.
That! I'm so jealous!
Eventually, Lei Xiao lifted Growlithe by the scruff and set the little dog on the ground. But the energetic Growlithe kept circling her without pausing for even a moment.
Lei Xiao stroked Growlithe's head helplessly, her expression full of affection.
"This little one is always so lively. It's maddening. Can't you rest for a bit? Just watching you is exhausting!"
Chu Xin nodded. Growlithe were clever, loyal, brave, and dependable. They faithfully followed their trainers' commands and fearlessly faced opponents bigger and stronger than themselves, making them the ideal Pokémon for police work. But their lively personalities could also give their trainers quite a headache. It seemed Big Sis Lei Xiao was one of the victims.
Still, I really want to raise one myself!
