Yue Shen secretly rejoiced at this. Wasn't the other man's approach exactly what he had hoped for?
After all, with the system backing him up, entering a meditative state was as easy as going AFK. It was a built-in player function; he didn't need anyone to teach him.
As for teaching him about the temples, did Han Qian have any idea what it meant to have reread Divine Throne countless times? Yue Shen even felt that he knew more about the subject than Han Qian did.
After all, the Six Great Temples had so many secrets that even Han Qian, the Holy Knight Commander, couldn't possibly know them all. Yue Shen, however, knew them inside out.
Buddy, buddy, you know the Assassin Temple, right? Your old neighbors? Did you know they've got a Reincarnation Saintess hidden away? Buddy...
If he hadn't wanted to keep a low profile, Yue Shen would have given Han Qian a lesson instead.
Of course, the esteemed Holy Knight Commander couldn't possibly be completely useless.
Although all he had done so far was help Yue Shen move to a new map, there was still one use Yue Shen had yet to squeeze out of the knight.
Farming experience.
That certainly didn't mean taking a blade to him, mainly because Yue Shen wasn't capable of that yet.
The reason Yue Shen wanted to farm experience through him was that players didn't improve their skill proficiency through practice. Instead, they raised it by accumulating proficiency in combat and earning skill points.
He was only at the second tier, yet he already had a chance to spar with the Holy Knight Commander. Wouldn't that let him farm all the combat experience he needed for skill points in no time?
The experience bonus for challenging someone above your tier was considerable, especially when that someone was six tiers above him.
Unfortunately, Han Qian stopped after simply testing Yue Shen's proficiency with his current skills a few times.
As a result, Yue Shen hadn't earned many skill points-just barely enough to max out the few skills he currently possessed.
"Lord Holy Knight Commander, could you spar with me a little longer?" Yue Shen asked hopefully.
The speed at which he could farm experience was simply too good. An ordinary player needed at least a week of game time to max out a single early-game skill.
Yet Yue Shen had maxed out all his basic early-game skills in this brief stretch of time. He would have been lying if he said he wasn't excited.
"Your grasp of them is actually quite decent. You're just a little short on real combat experience." Han Qian fell silent for a moment. "Continue meditating. Once we reach Holy City tomorrow, I'll arrange a teacher for you."
After hearing that, Yue Shen immediately abandoned any thought of asking for more guidance. He had already maxed out his skills, after all. If they sparred again, Han Qian would notice at once.
Although being found out probably wouldn't get him sliced up for research, he still thought it best not to put on too outrageous a display.
Early the next morning, Yue Shen had just finished meditating and stretched when he heard the mechanical announcement of his advancement reward.
[Reached the third tier. Reward: three free attribute points.]
Yue Shen's face lit up, but there was no hurry to spend those attribute points. He then turned his attention to the spiritual power field on his status panel.
[Spiritual power: 281 (external spiritual power: 165, internal spiritual power: 116)]
Subtracting his eighty-nine points of innate internal spiritual power, Yue Shen had actually gained twenty-seven points of spiritual power through less than a day's cultivation.
In less than a day, Yue Shen had become a third-tier knight.
However, since he had yet to pass the knight examination, he was still an apprentice knight despite his spiritual power meeting the requirement.
Yue Shen was quite satisfied with his cultivation speed. After all, he had started with nothing, and being able to cultivate this quickly with practically no resources was already remarkably impressive.
Besides, he would soon be heading to Holy City,
Yue Shen already had a rough idea of who his future teacher might be. After all, if this was a better choice than the Holy Knight Commander, it would most likely be a Divine Seal Knight. As for which one, Yue Shen wasn't sure yet.
After eating the dry rations Han Qian handed him, Yue Shen climbed onto the back of Han Qian's mount.
The Holy Knight Commander's mount was a tall Starshine Unicorn, and the pure aura of light radiating from the creature put Yue Shen at ease.
Yue Shen reached out and stroked the mane along the back of the unicorn's neck. It was incredibly soft and seemed to carry a faint, pleasant fragrance.
The Starshine Unicorn turned his head and gently rubbed his nose against Yue Shen's hand, showing his affection.
"This is my mount companion, a Starshine Unicorn," Han Qian introduced proudly from beside him. "They're quite rare light-attribute magical beasts. While they aren't the most powerful magical beasts, they're the most suitable mount companions for us knights."
"They're extremely sensitive to the light attribute. And since you have the divine shelter constitution, they'll naturally feel close to you and show you goodwill. When the time comes to choose your mount companion, I recommend a Starshine Unicorn."
Yue Shen smiled without replying, merely rubbing the Starshine Unicorn's cheek gently. A Starshine Unicorn was certainly good, but it wasn't his ideal choice.
Yue Shen frowned slightly, wondering whether he should choose the most reliable option, a Starshine Unicorn, when it was time to select his mount companion. Or should he choose another magical beast? Or perhaps...
Han Qian, however, thought Yue Shen was worrying about failing to earn a Starshine Unicorn's approval, and couldn't help laughing.
"Don't worry. This old friend of mine told me that Starshine Unicorns couldn't find a single reason to refuse to become your companion." Han Qian patted Yue Shen on the shoulder. "Your teacher will send you to Knight Sacred Mountain when the time comes. There's no rush for now."
"Mm."
It was nearly evening when the two finally reached Holy City, the capital of the Temple Alliance.
This was the most prosperous city in the entire Temple Alliance. Compared with it, Demon-Resisting Town, where Yue Shen had stayed before, was worlds apart.
Yue Shen was curious. After all, Holy City was the most prosperous city in the entire Human Federation. He had only recently arrived in this world, so naturally, he was eager to explore it.
Unfortunately, Han Qian didn't seem to have any intention of showing him around Holy City. After passing the inspection at the city gate, Han Qian took Yue Shen straight to the Knight Division of the Alliance Administration Hall.
Yue Shen was then ushered into a quiet room, where Han Qian told him to wait for his teacher.
Yue Shen didn't mind. He could tour Holy City whenever he wanted. For now, all he needed to do was stay here obediently, cultivate, and wait for his teacher to arrive.
Besides, this teacher was very likely a Divine Seal Knight, so Yue Shen had to make a good impression. After all, the man wouldn't just be a teacher, but a walking, human-shaped experience pack.
Since the quiet room was completely sealed off from the outside world, Yue Shen had no idea what time it was.
Sitting there cross-legged and cultivating internal spiritual power was indeed rather dull. Bored out of his mind, he opened his status panel while cultivating and turned his attention to those three free attribute points.
How should I allocate them? That was the question.
