Crocodile suspected Yang Cheng knew where Pluton was and decided to confront him personally, bringing Nico Robin along. At Whiskey Peak, Yang Cheng chose to wait for Crocodile while Miss Valentine and Vivi prepared to leave.
Yang Cheng stayed in Whiskey Town to confront Crocodile, hoping to keep the fight away from Alabasta, while Miss Valentine and Vivi remained with him. When Crocodile arrived and demanded information about Pluton, Yang Cheng claimed Alabasta held a Poneglyph recording the weapon’s whereabouts, prompting Crocodile to ask where it was.
Yang Cheng used Rending Wound’s explosive slashes to destroy Crocodile’s sand tornado and blast him into a crater, but Crocodile survived by elementalizing and re-forming from sand. Crocodile acknowledged Yang Cheng’s strength and again offered him a chance to reveal Pluton’s location, leaving their confrontation unresolved.
Crocodile offered Yang Cheng a place in Baroque Works, but Yang Cheng mocked his reliance on Pluton and challenged his ambitions. Crocodile lost his temper and attacked, and the chapter ended with Yang Cheng’s Azure Flame chains trapping him amid an explosive clash.
Yang Cheng fought Crocodile in Whiskey Town and drove the wounded Shichibukai to flee, leaving Nico Robin behind. Vivi then begged Yang Cheng to help Alabasta, while Miss Valentine believed they could now act freely.
Yang Cheng explained why he could not yet defeat Crocodile in Alabasta and advised Vivi on how to undermine Crocodile’s plans. As he sailed toward Jaya to improve his Observation Haki, Robin and Mikita argued over their relationship with him, while his growing fame drew unlucky pirates into Mikita’s path.
Yang Cheng’s disastrous fishing trip ended when Miss Valentine and Nico Robin caught fish effortlessly, prompting him to retreat to the Mysterious Space. There, he met a new High School Yang Cheng and learned that the newcomer was genuinely an ordinary high school student, leaving Pirate Yang Cheng envious after seeing his memories.
Yang Cheng joined the other versions of himself after gaining their shared abilities, and agreed to look for manga about their worlds in his own. At Tokyo Metropolitan Advanced Nurturing High School, he started life in Class D with extraordinary strength and a plan to earn private points through café work.
Yang Cheng explained to Suzune Horikita and Kiyotaka Ayanokoji that private points could be used to buy information, and that Class D’s poor conduct had cost them their monthly allowance. Sae Chabashira revealed that students could earn points through other channels and left impressed by Yang Cheng’s resourcefulness, seeing potential in Class D.
Sae Chabashira became convinced that Yang Cheng was a brilliant student hiding his abilities and saw him as Class D’s chance to rise and make up for her past failure. After she left, the class searched for the student who knew how to earn points, while Suzune urged Yang Cheng to speak up.
Horikita Suzune told Class D that students could earn personal points by working part-time, but her classmates accused her of hiding the option. Yang Cheng defended her, condemned Class D for its irresponsibility, and left after declaring that he could defeat the other classes alone.
Yang Cheng met Kikyo Kushida after receiving a flood of invitations from classmates and their teacher. He exposed that he knew about her hidden nature, and when she tried to threaten him over their encounter, he revealed that he had recorded it.
Yang Cheng used a video of Kikyo Kushida framing him to turn her threats back on her. Kushida tried to tempt him into crossing a line she could use against him, but he refused, leaving her to depart in frustration.
Yang Cheng met Suzune Horikita, who was preparing to explain her feelings, but Manabu Horikita interrupted and tried to force her to leave the school. Yang Cheng intervened and fought Manabu, ending the chapter as he struck him with an Iron Mountain Lean.
Yang Cheng stopped Manabu Horikita from hitting Suzune and revealed that Manabu was trying to make his sister withdraw because he feared she would struggle at school. Suzune began to understand her brother’s concern, while Yang Cheng encouraged her to overcome her shortcomings.
Yang Cheng comforted Suzune Horikita about her brother, and she left without telling him she had meant to reject his romantic hopes. He then went to meet Sae Chabashira and found Ayanokoji there, learning that she had pressured Ayanokoji to lead Class D toward Class A.
Yang Cheng told Sae Chabashira he did not care whether he graduated from Class D or Class A, then revealed he had over three hundred thousand Private Points and could pursue a class transfer. Sae asked Ayanokoji to keep Yang Cheng in Class D, but after Ayanokoji left, she asked Yang Cheng what it would take to persuade him to help the class.
Yang Cheng was caught between Kikyo Kushida’s attempt to provoke Suzune Horikita and Horikita’s unexpected decision to start a study group. The group was set to meet after school, though Yang Cheng was reluctant to join and had other plans that evening.
Yang Cheng refused to join Suzune Horikita and Kikyo Kushida’s study group, which met without him at the school library. At the campus pastry shop, Kei Karuizawa asked Yang Cheng to pretend to date her so he could protect her, and the chapter ended with her offering to explain the arrangement to Horikita.
Yang Cheng agreed to pretend to be Kei Karuizawa’s boyfriend and promised to keep her bullying past secret. After clearing up rumors that he liked Suzune Horikita, he paid for their meal and gave Kei a notebook tied to a favor that would benefit her.
Yang Cheng gave Kei Karuizawa last year’s midterm questions, and she decided to share them with Class D. The next morning, Kei announced that she and Yang Cheng were dating, leaving Suzune Horikita unexpectedly unsettled.
Yang Cheng and Kei Karuizawa’s public relationship drew Class D’s attention while Suzune Horikita struggled to find a way to help the class pass its exam. Ayanokoji discovered that Karuizawa was distributing exam questions on Yang Cheng’s behalf, leaving Suzune to suspect their relationship was a deal of mutual benefit.
After Class D passed the midterms, Kei Karuizawa’s popularity rose, angering Kikyo Kushida, who suspected Yang Cheng was helping Kei while keeping their relationship false. Months later, the first-years began a two-week uninhabited-island survival exam, and Yang Cheng stepped into Class D’s dispute over whether to buy a portable toilet.
Yang Cheng persuaded Class D to buy a long blade instead of spending points on tents and a toilet, then revealed extraordinary swordsmanship by felling a massive tree and crafting a Simple Toilet from its trunk. Class D grew confident he could build Wooden Houses, while Karuizawa Kei proudly embraced him as her boyfriend.
Class D chose Yang Cheng as its leader, and he quickly claimed every remaining site on the deserted island. When Class D took in Ibuki from Class C, Yang Cheng suspected she might be a spy and gave Suzune his Key Card to use as bait.
