Xie Wen secured three Dyna Stones from Cody in exchange for completing the World Government’s mission to ambush Big Mom, but he planned to avoid fighting seriously. He left the cats out of the operation, and Klee Meow agreed to wait nearby and help him escape if needed.
Xie Wen arrived at Obstein for the World Government’s operation against the Four Emperors and met Jinbe and Cavendish, but the Marines’ relaxed preparations made him doubt that the island was meant to be the final battlefield. He joined Jinbe at the mayor’s house, still unsure what the Marines were planning.
Xie Wen met the Shichibukai and Marines at the gathering, where Akainu confronted him over protecting Nico Robin and their opposing views of justice. Kizaru’s arrival stopped the confrontation, and Akainu left after warning Xie Wen.
After Akainu confronted Xie Wen, Kizaru tried to smooth things over, while Aokiji abandoned his attempt to discuss Robin with him. Xie Wen explored Obstein Island, concluded it was a decoy site for the ambush on Big Mom, and used Meowrah’s antenna to contact Klee Meow despite the signal jamming.
Xie Wen kept in touch with the cats while the Marines confined the Shichibukai on Obstein Island, then trained with Jinbe and Hawk-Eye as they waited for the operation to begin. Kizaru finally led them to the coast, where a submarine surfaced and transformed into a machine resembling Dudu Valstrax.
Xie Wen confronted Kizaru about the World Government’s Valstrax-like warship, then assessed its copied technology as it carried the Shichibukai into the sky. The ship proved slower and less stable than the Dudu, and Gecko Moria’s clumsy reaction made Doflamingo reconsider partnering with him.
The World Government lured the Big Mom Pirates to a hidden island with intelligence about Mother Carmel, hoping to provoke them and weaken their crew while the Marines gathered forces. Charlotte Linlin read the documents and laughed, leaving her children unsure how she would react.
The Marines provoked Charlotte Linlin by showing her fabricated footage of Mother Carmel, then attacked the Big Mom Pirates while Linlin was disoriented. Linlin recovered and struck back, and Garp confronted her flaming slash as the battle began.
The Navy ambushed the Big Mom Pirates, with Garp and Akainu holding off Charlotte Linlin while Aokiji countered Cracker’s biscuit army. The Marines turned the battle around, but Katakuri spotted reinforcements arriving as a warship crashed into the battlefield.
Xie Wen joined the Navy’s battle against the Big Mom Pirates but deliberately staged a fight with Cracker while most of the Shichibukai avoided serious combat. He realized the Big Mom Pirates were also stalling, suggesting reinforcements were on their way.
After Sengoku reported that the Marines’ plan had failed, Vice Admiral Tsuru ordered the Shichibukai to help cover the Marines’ retreat from Big Mom. Xie Wen suspected Doflamingo had tipped Kaido off, and the chapter ended with the Shichibukai refusing to board the waiting subspecies ships as Xie Wen wondered whether Doflamingo had sabotaged their earlier vessel.
After the Marines departed, Xie Wen gathered the stranded Shichibukai and prepared to leave aboard the Dudu. Jinbe reunited with Shirahoshi, who stunned him by demonstrating her Fish-Man Karate training.
Jinbe began teaching Shirahoshi Fish-Man Karate, while Xie Wen and Ai Haibara Meow plotted to make her surprise for King Neptune more startling. Xie Wen discovered the Dudu was near Amazon Lily and considered their next destination, then gave up trying to understand the Marines’ past ambush plan.
Xie Wen and his companions sailed through the Calm Belt toward Amazon Lily, stopping at Rusukaina Island after Boa Hancock recognized it. Boa Hancock began improving relations with Robin and the cats, while Xie Wen agreed to accept her overtures cautiously.
Xie Wen and the cats explored Rusukaina Island, where they subdued its enormous animal overlords and recruited them as sparring partners for Shirahoshi. The group spread out across the island to train and search for beasts, while Xie Wen discovered that even its largest animals were ordinary species.
On Rusukaina Island, Shirahoshi trained in Fish-Man Karate and Jujutsu while Xie Wen learned how the Marines had been outmaneuvered by Big Mom and Kaido. The group continued training, and Shirahoshi’s newfound confidence ended when Jinx Meow beat her in a playful spar.
Xie Wen and his companions reached Amazon Lily with Boa Hancock, whose arrival prevented a clash with the Kuja fleet. While Robin and several cats explored the island, Xie Wen and the others stayed by the shore and took the Dudu into the sky to map the island; Hancock allowed them to continue as long as they did not enter the city.
Klee Meow and the other cats explored Amazon Lily while Ai Haibara Meow questioned Boa Hancock about the island’s women and children. Jinx Meow and Suika Meow headed to the arena to find opponents, while Klee Meow stayed behind under Hua Mei Meow’s watch.
Jinx Meow entered the Kuja arena to fight Marigold and showed the spectators how powerful she was. After the audience booed her for using a grenade, she put away her weapons and attacked with her own explosive power.
Jinx Meow fought Marigold in the arena and used the pressure of Marigold’s attacks to awaken her Observation Haki. She countered Marigold’s snake-hair and followed up with an explosive attack, but the chapter ended with an author’s note about a broken computer.
Xie Wen and the cats watched Jinx and Shirahoshi compete in Amazon Lily’s ring using Den Den Mushi. Shirahoshi overcame her fear and defeated her opponent, leaving the crew cheering over her victory.
Shirahoshi lost her second ring match, and Xie Wen received a call from Morgans about the consequences of his request. Morgans revealed that Kuzan had become Fleet Admiral without interference or a fight with Akainu, leaving Xie Wen to learn how his planted story had affected the Navy.
Xie Wen learned that Sengoku had taken responsibility for the Marines’ defeat and decided not to hurry Cody about the Dyna Stone. Meanwhile, Klee Meow and Ai Haibara Meow plotted to trick him with a Tearshroom, leaving Xie Wen with a sudden sense of foreboding.
The cats learned that Boa Hancock’s bath ritual was tied to the Kuja Tribe’s Gorgon’s Curse and grew curious about what she hid on her back. After Robin safely left the palace, Ai Haibara Meow persuaded Hua Mei Meow to let the cats investigate, leaving them poised to sneak into the city.
Ai Haibara Meow, Jinx Meow, and Klee Meow sneaked into Kuja Castle to investigate the supposed Gorgon Curse and found that Boa Hancock was bathing with only her sisters and two animals guarding the room. Klee Meow slipped inside and saw the mark on Boa Hancock’s back, which resembled an animal paw print.
