Kaido was certain the man before him was deliberately humiliating him. Already quick to anger, he erupted with fury and poured more power into his Dragon Breath, making the already massive beam even more terrifying.
On one side was the terrifying Dragon's Breath; on the other, merely the feeble palm of a scrawny human. As these two utterly mismatched forces collided, the outcome seemed inevitable.
The pirates watched excitedly, their eyes gleaming with bloodthirsty cruelty, while the civilians looked on in terror, as though witnessing their own future fate. Even Kizaru and Rayleigh, who had some idea of Su Yu's strength, felt their hearts leap into their throats as they watched nervously.
All this might have taken a while to describe, but Su Yu and Kaido were only a few hundred meters apart. Everything happened in a flash. One moment, Kaido had just unleashed his Dragon Breath; the next, the beam was right in front of Su Yu.
The beam collided with his palm, but things did not go as Kaido and the pirates had expected. They did not see Su Yu effortlessly engulfed and destroyed. Instead, Su Yu stopped the beam! With nothing more than a casually raised palm!
He stopped it! Stopped it! Stopped! It!
The beam of Dragon Breath struck Su Yu's outstretched palm head-on, yet he did not retreat an inch before its terrifying force. His body did not even sway. With just one hand, he steadily blocked an attack from Kaido, one of the Four Emperors—the same terrifying Dragon Breath that had effortlessly destroyed a gigantic mangrove tree moments earlier!
Seeing Su Yu block his attack so easily, Kaido froze for a moment, then instinctively poured even more power into it. Dragon Breath battered Su Yu's palm without pause, but that seemingly ordinary hand was like a submerged reef. However violently the waves crashed against it, it remained unmoved!
The powerful wind pressure whipped Su Yu's hair and clothes, and dazzling light blazed where his palm met Dragon Breath. At that moment, his slender figure looked impossibly tall and steadfast from behind, like an impregnable wall holding back every storm!
If an artist could have captured this scene, it would surely have become a masterpiece for the ages: a vicious dragon facing a human, with the seemingly weaker human stopping the dragon's attack simply by raising his hand. The contrast could not have been greater.
Everyone stared blankly. The sight was so shocking that, for a moment, they could not seem to comprehend what had happened.
That dragon was Kaido! Kaido was one of the legendary Four Emperors!! Hadn't he just effortlessly destroyed a gigantic mangrove tree?!!!
Could someone please tell them what the hell they were looking at?!
Had they gone mad, or had the world gone mad?!
Only Rayleigh and Kizaru did not make a fuss. They had already witnessed how terrifying Su Yu was, so their expressions said they had expected as much. Even so, their eyes were full of shock. Knowing was one thing; seeing it firsthand was another. This sight was simply too staggering!
When Kaido realized his Dragon Breath truly seemed powerless against Su Yu, he stopped wasting his strength and cut off the attack. The terrifying beam gradually faded, until its last glimmer vanished into Su Yu's palm.
Seeing Kaido give up, Su Yu lowered his hand and took out a cloth to wipe it. After all, the blast had come from Kaido's mouth. He knew Dragon Breath was so hot that there could not possibly be any spit or bad breath left in it, but he still could not help feeling grossed out. He had to wipe his palm before he could feel a little better.
Kaido's enormous dragon eyes fixed on Su Yu. Had any of the pirates below faced that terrifying stare, they would probably have wet themselves. He opened his mouth, and a deep, oppressive voice rolled out like muffled thunder.
"You're Su Yu, the owner of that bar?"
"That's right. Kaido, why didn't you stay put in your own lair? You came all the way here to run wild-are you looking to die?"
Su Yu's arrogant words instantly scared a whole swath of the pirates below half to death.
Yet Kaido did not explode at the slightest provocation as he had before. Su Yu had casually stopped his Dragon Breath, earning Kaido's recognition of his strength. That was the kind of man Kaido was—a battle fanatic who could overlook such trivialities when dealing with a powerful opponent he respected.
Besides, in a certain sense, Su Yu was not actually wrong. Kaido really had come to Su Yu looking to die because he could not kill himself...
"What an arrogant brat! I heard you could grant any wish here, so here I am! Come on! Today, either you kill me, or I kill you!"
"Heh. You're nothing but a crawling reptile. I'm afraid you wouldn't survive even a little effort on my part!"
The pirates watching below were beside themselves with shock. That's Kaido you're facing! The terrifying Kaido, one of the Four Emperors! Could you stop being so arrogant?!
"You damned brat!"
Sure enough, Su Yu enraged Kaido. He opened his enormous maw and unleashed another attack on the scale of a natural disaster, but this time, it was not Dragon Breath.
"Hah!!!"
Kaido spat out a torrent of wind blades like the slashes of a sickle weasel. Each was incomparably sharp, rivaling a Great Swordsman's slash. One would have been manageable, but there were so many that sheer quantity transformed the attack into something else entirely. This was a terrifying natural disaster in the truest sense!
Faced with the wind blades filling the sky, Su Yu remained perfectly calm. He raised his hand and pressed against the empty air before him. Instantly, space shattered inch by inch like a mirror. Then, with a little force, he casually pushed his hand forward, and that "shattered mirror" began drifting toward the wind blades.
The seemingly unstoppable wind blades struck the "mirror," which looked as though it was already on the verge of breaking, only to vanish like clay oxen sinking into the sea. They were annihilated without a trace, without a sound, without stirring even a ripple. The mirror did not show the slightest sign of slowing down.
The "shattered mirror" seemed slow, yet it reached Kaido in no time. He immediately increased his output, spitting out even more wind blades, but it made no difference.
Meanwhile, his Observation Haki screamed warnings, telling him that the attack before him was terrifyingly powerful.
But by then, the "mirror" was already right in front of him. His body was too enormous, and it was too late even to return to human form. All he could do was desperately summon his Armament Haki, protecting his head, heart, and other vital areas with all his strength, then brace himself to take the attack head-on!
