Power Progression

Stage / Realm / Level Chapter Notes
Adaptation to the One Piece world's laws 1 Completed after approximately twenty-four hours of drifting at sea. He could already create objects, levitate, and travel through spatial fissures before adaptation finished.
Wish-power accumulation: twelve orbs 20 Collected twelve wish-power orbs through his bar's transactions. Sengoku's contribution was the largest collected so far, but the total remained far below what Su Yu needed to become a true god.

Background / History

Su Yu had lived for millennia and traveled beyond the One Piece world before his arrival. In one previously visited world, he encountered manga including One Piece, Saint Seiya, and Dragon Ball. This gave him advance knowledge of local figures and inspiration for the artifacts he later created. He had not personally visited the world of the Saints 4 6 15 22.

His long-term goal is to become a true god: immortal and indestructible, with omniscience and omnipotence within the territory of his divine domain. Although he tells Rayleigh that he can be regarded as a god within the One Piece world, this is distinct from the true godhood he is still pursuing 4 15.

To reach that goal, he gathers wish power, the determination and desire of living beings to accomplish something. Stronger beings produce more of it. Each world has a collection limit because extracting wish power draws on that world's nourishment; once he reaches the One Piece world's limit, he intends to leave 4 20.

Appearance

Su Yu has a youthful, handsome appearance that conceals his nearly ten-thousand-year lifespan 1 14 43.

  • Hair: Soft black hair falling just past his eyebrows 1.
  • Clothing: A long black coat over a white shirt on arrival 1.
  • Build and hands: A slender figure with pale, clean, slender hands 29 30.
  • Ability effects: His eyes and hands glow blue when creating Miland's Cloth Box 6.

Personality

Su Yu prefers a comfortable, leisurely life. He enjoys good food, liquor, reading, and sleeping, and delegates most bar work to Miland once the boy becomes his employee. Running the bar genuinely appeals to him, although its deeper purpose is collecting wish power 1 4 9 20.

He presents his assistance as an equal exchange, but makes exceptions for people he chooses to help. Miland receives extraordinary power in return for work, while Marco is allowed three months to pay for Whitebeard's restoration. Su Yu also prevents Miland from kneeling in gratitude and gives him a room that becomes his new home 5 9 16 46.

He remains composed around powerful opponents and enjoys theatrical displays of his abilities. His humor includes teasing Rayleigh, borrowing a grandiose wish-granting line from Dragon Ball, and insulting Kaido during their confrontation. His disgust at Kaido's mouth-fired attacks even influences how he chooses to defend himself 15 22 29 30.

Su Yu despises the Celestial Dragons and World Government, but restrains himself from directly interfering in the world's affairs. His neutrality does not extend to tolerating threats against his bar or Miland: he expels Doflamingo, defeats Kaido, and refuses Diamante's attempted apology 22 23 35 41 46.

Abilities & Skills

Wish Granting

Su Yu offers to fulfill wishes in exchange for a corresponding price. Completed transactions provide both payment and wish power 2 4.

  • Demonstrated results: Bestows combat power through Cloths and creates an item that restores Whitebeard to his prime 6 45 49.
  • Claimed scope: Tells Rayleigh that he could bring Roger back to life; no resurrection is demonstrated in the supplied events 2.
  • World-law condition: Paid wishes establish a causal connection recognized by the world's rules, allowing him to provide assistance of equivalent value without treating it as direct outside interference 22.
  • Collection limit: The wish power available from any one world is finite 20.

Object and Artifact Creation

Su Yu can produce ordinary objects and customized supernatural artifacts 1 6.

  • Creates a sailing ship and lounge chair, and gathers gold particles into a sphere to pay for his Baratie meal 1.
  • Recreates a God Cloth of Pegasus from his knowledge of Saint Seiya. His version lacks the original's full power but is sufficient to defeat a Shichibukai 6.
  • Adds flight, pendant storage, and rapid re-equipping functions to Miland's Cloth 9.
  • Supplies Cloth chests to the Marines and Revolutionary Army 13 22.
  • Gives Miland a special Log Pose that points toward whatever he wants to find 9.

Spatial Manipulation and Flight

Su Yu uses space for travel, controlled environments, and offense 1 2 6 30.

  • Travel: Enters the world through a spatial fissure and opens a Space Gate from Baratie to Sabaody 1 2.
  • Flight: Initially suspends himself with an antigravity field and later flies directly to confront Kaido 1 29.
  • Spatial expansion: Turns the bar's interior into an enormous arena, then contracts it back to normal 6 9.
  • Spatial attack: Shatters space like a mirror and sends the fractured surface toward Kaido, annihilating his wind blades 30.

Telekinesis and Invisible Defense

Invisible force allows Su Yu to move targets, restrain enemies, and stop attacks without physical contact 1 3 9.

  • Accelerates his ship toward Baratie 1.
  • Blocks Abeli's ordinary and Armament Haki-coated cutlass strikes with an unseen barrier 3.
  • Immobilizes and levitates Abeli's entire crew, then transports them to a Marine base 3.
  • Prevents Miland from kneeling to thank him 9.

Physical Combat and Overwhelming Presence

Su Yu vastly outclasses Kaido while deliberately holding back 29 32.

  • Stops Dragon Breath with one palm without moving from his position 30.
  • Blocks Thunder Bagua with one finger and crushes Kaido's Hassaikai 32.
  • Repeatedly kicks Kaido away using physical strength alone, moving too quickly for him to follow 32.
  • Breaks Kaido's Haki-coated arms while escaping his grip; his movement leaves spatial rifts along his path 34.
  • Releases pressure strong enough to drive Doflamingo, Pica, and Diamante out without a fight 23.

Concealment and Perception

Observation Haki repeatedly fails to assess or detect Su Yu accurately 2 23 32 44.

  • Rayleigh initially senses an apparently ordinary person rather than Su Yu's actual strength 2.
  • Doflamingo, Kaido, and Blackbeard cannot sense him despite seeing him directly 23 32 44.
  • Kizaru fails to detect the production of a Cloth chest even with his Observation Haki pushed to its limit 13.
  • Su Yu remains aware of activity in his bar while reading and notices Kaido's arrival well before confronting him 28 42.
  • Immediately after adapting to the world, his aura control is imperfect; Zeff senses a leaked trace and recognizes him as dangerous 1.

Power Suppression and Binding Contracts

Su Yu can restrict both supernatural abilities and future conduct 35 43.

  • Temporarily seals Marco's and Blackbeard's Devil Fruit powers during their confrontation, then releases the seals once they calm down 43.
  • Forces Kaido to sign a contract requiring him to protect the bar and assist Miland when needed 35.
  • Turns that contract into a tattoo on Kaido's chest and warns that violating it will cause unbearable pain 35.

Restoration and Vital Energy

Su Yu can repair large-scale destruction and concentrate life-restoring energy 35 45.

  • Restores damaged buildings, cratered ground, and the destroyed mangrove tree after fighting Kaido. The effect resembles time flowing backward, though its mechanism is not established 35.
  • Gathers a green orb of vitality powerful enough to improve Marco's physical condition merely through proximity 45.
  • Seals the orb inside an apple for safe transport; without the vessel, Marco would absorb it upon touching it 45.
  • The apple heals Whitebeard's scars, restores his hair, and returns his body to its prime 49.

Illusions, Clones, and Training

Su Yu also uses controlled manifestations for acquisition, combat, and instruction 2 34 50.

  • Uses an illusion technique to control a clothing-store owner during the purchase of his premises, while compensating him generously 2.
  • Creates a clone that uppercuts Kaido, causing Dragon Breath to explode inside Kaido's mouth 34.
  • Creates a training Phantom whose strength, speed, and reflexes are slightly above Miland's, challenging the boy to defeat a consistently superior opponent 50.

Wish-Granting Bar

Su Yu converted a clothing store into a small bar containing a liquor cabinet, counter, and four or five tables. Its sign uses an unfamiliar script, but its meaning—“Wish-Granting Bar”—appears directly in observers' minds 2.

  • Drinks: One featured liquor costs 100,000 Beli per glass; cheaper varieties are also available 2.
  • Troublemakers: Pirates who attack the establishment are subdued and handed to the Marines for their bounties 3 5.
  • Staff: Miland handles serving drinks, waiting on customers, and cleaning 16 20.
  • Neutral clientele: Su Yu conducts transactions with both the Marines and Revolutionary Army without joining either 10 13 22.

Notable Quotes

“Not bad. You don't need to thank me. This was just a transaction. I gave you the power to take revenge, and you work for me for free. An equal exchange, nothing more.” 9

“Fleet Admiral Sengoku, I'm just a man without any grand ambitions. All I want is to run a bar and enjoy a leisurely life. I'll pass on joining the Marines!” 10

“That wish is easily granted!” 22

Trivia

  • His wish-granting catchphrase is deliberately borrowed from the dragon summoned by the seven Dragon Balls 22.
  • He initially considers swallowing Kaido's Dragon Breath for a more spectacular display, then rejects the idea because the attack came from Kaido's mouth 29.
  • Rayleigh's early guess that Su Yu uses an “Air-Air Fruit” is speculation, not an established explanation for his abilities 3.
