The reversal of time on Lilith had not ended!
Edward frantically tried to grip her wrist with all his strength. Lilith struggled desperately too, trying to reach out and catch his hand, but neither could change anything.
They could only watch as the distance between them grew wider and wider, until... she cried out a third time, "Edward!!!"
At that instant, Edward regained control of his body and grabbed hard for Lilith.
"Lilith!"
His hand closed on nothing.
Lilith had vanished.
She disappeared before his eyes as though a frame had been skipped, vanishing into the backward flow of time toward some more distant, more unknown point in the past-and the Dice containing the Uniqueness of Fate disappeared along with her.
Edward's heart clenched, and intense pain swept through his entire body.
Why did this happen?
She was with me. We were clearly affected by the same Time-Turner, so why did she go further back in time?
Boundless fear engulfed him:
He dared not imagine how far back Lilith would go, what dangers she would encounter there, or how long she could hold on with her simple mind and Sequence 7 strength.
Would I...
ever have a chance to see her again?
Another stab of pain pierced Edward's heart.
After all, up to this point, Lilith, who had gone into the past, had never come looking for him-
On the bright side, she might have listened to what he had told her back at Hogwarts: never meet her "future" self or Edward before these events happened.
But on the dark side...
She might simply have failed to survive until now.
After all, if the span of time was too great, she would at least have to advance to a Sequence 3 Demoness of Unaging to endure the passage of time.
