Chapter Summaries

Klein accepted a job impersonating Admiral Amyrius while the admiral secretly left Bayam, and discovered Lilith working at the Governor’s Mansion. Krismona removed a corrupted necklace from Amyrius’s mistress, suspecting the Mother Tree of Desire might be targeting Lilith or Edward.

• Klein considered Elland’s offer, then met Bilt and learned the admiral needed a double while he handled private business away from Bayam.
• Klein entered the Governor’s Mansion with Bilt, recognized Lilith among the children catching rats, and learned the mansion was still being repaired after pirates had damaged it.
• Amyrius tested Klein’s identity, accepted him as the double, and signed a contract with him before they exchanged clothes.

After escaping a monster and discovering that Judith was restraining Krismona, Lilith and her companions found themselves in a strange, silent neighborhood where a pair of men approached.

• Beria, Zatwen, Kalaman, and Baranka attacked Edward, but he escaped their first assault with Lilith after unleashing a Lightning Storm and scattering Transfiguration doubles through the forest.
• Suah’s power exposed Edward and trapped him in black liquid, so he called on Christine, who rescued him and demanded that he bear her child.

Back on Blue Mountain Island, Christine demanded that Edward bear her a child, but Edward prepared a plan to counter her corruption and challenge her to a game.

Edward traveled back to 1160 and arrived in Trier, where he watched a young Roselle spend time with his daughter Bernadette. After learning that Roselle planned to sail for Solomon’s Legacy, Edward remained hidden in the garden and reflected on how early it still was in Roselle’s rise.

• Edward realized he had arrived nearly two hundred years in the past and wondered whether he could meet Roselle without disrupting the timeline.
• In Trier, Roselle entertained Bernadette with Pinocchio’s story, and she teased him about his broken promises.
