The champions encountered dangerous magical creatures and plants in the Hedge Maze. Jean Gardner escaped a group of Winged Demons, while Fleur Delacour freed herself from Devil’s Snare; Harry remained trapped by vines that Bagman identified as likely Heavenly Demon Vine.

• Jean Gardner was knocked from the air and attacked by four Winged Demons in a dark section of the maze.

Shen Yalan and Ryan Moning Meng battled in the maze, trading fire and ice magic while spectators judged their strength. Their clash remained even, leaving both schools surprised by Meng’s power.

Harry fled a Sphinx in the maze and guessed he was nearing the center, while several other champions were eliminated. Only six champions remained as Harry continued toward the trophy.

• Harry rested, then set off again after his sprint had carried him deep into the maze past several fantastic beasts.

Harry saw Peter Pettigrew attack Horton before Weir Hallen intervened, only for Allen Dismask to kill Weir and Horton with green flames. Dismask collected Weir’s remains and spoke cordially with the sinister presence hidden in Peter’s arms.

• Peter Pettigrew cast repeated Killing Curses at Horton, and Weir Hallen blocked one with Ultimate Death.
• Harry recognized Peter Pettigrew, while Weir demanded that Peter hand over the thing he carried.
• A voice from Peter’s arms spoke, and green flames engulfed Weir Hallen until only his skeleton remained.

Harry was immobilized and carried by Peter to a cemetery, where he realized the snake and the bundle Peter held were speaking Parseltongue about Tom. Unable to use his wand, Harry considered his left-hand power but hesitated, and Peter began preparing a huge cauldron.

• Harry floated behind Peter and saw a huge, brightly colored snake emerge from the grass.
• Harry heard the snake and Peter's bundle speak Parseltongue, and recognized the bundle's name as possibly Tom Riddle.
• Harry considered using the power in his left hand but held back because Dismask might be able to counter it.
• Peter moved Harry behind a gravestone and summoned an enormous stone cauldron.
• Peter filled the cauldron with water, conjured firewood beneath it, and lit the fire.

Harry watched Peter perform an ancient ritual to resurrect his master, while Dismask helped him replace his severed hand. Peter then cut Harry and added his blood to the cauldron, which turned dazzling white, before Dismask contributed a lock of hair.

• Harry recognized Peter’s actions as a likely evil ritual and wondered whether its promised rebirth was possible.
• Peter cut off his damaged right hand and dropped it into the cauldron as part of the ritual.

Voldemort confronted Lucius Malfoy about his past actions and questioned his loyalty while Harry watched. Voldemort interrupted Harry’s attempted Apparition and left their confrontation for later.

• Voldemort accused Lucius Malfoy of causing trouble at the Quidditch World Cup and failing to seek him out, but spared him after Lucius pleaded loyalty.
