Scheming against Kaecilius

Kaecilius's return was naturally a major event that stirred all of Kamar-Taj.

But Wang Yang wanted no part of it. After catching sight of Kaecilius, he turned and left.

He would be much more comfortable practicing on his own.

As for the welcoming ceremony, he was only an apprentice anyway. Who would care about an apprentice?

But just as he was about to settle down to practice, a knock came at the door.

Wang Yang frowned slightly. "Who could be looking for me at a time like this?"

When Wang Yang opened the door, he found a complete stranger standing outside.

Still, he had nothing to worry about in Kamar-Taj.

"May I ask who you are, Master?"

As an apprentice, he could address any sorcerer he met as Master.

Besides, he was something of a loner in Kamar-Taj. Hardly anyone knew him.

Among those who had arrived at the same time, he only knew a few of his fellow apprentices.

Just as Wang Yang was wondering who this middle-aged man was, the man finally spoke.

"You may call me Master Cade!"

"Master Kaecilius wishes to see you!"

The sorcerer stated his purpose outright!

His voice carried a hint of arrogance. Perhaps everyone who followed Kaecilius was like that.

Wang Yang looked the sorcerer up and down.

Then he shook his head. "Sorry, I don't have time. I still need to practice my magic!"

He might be an apprentice, but that did not mean he had to obey everything people told him.

Especially not a sorcerer this arrogant.

Besides, he genuinely wanted nothing to do with Kaecilius!

With that, Wang Yang shut the door.

Cade was left standing outside.

"Damn it! Who do you think you are? You should consider yourself fortunate that Master Kaecilius wants to see you!"

Staring at the closed door, Cade scowled and swore furiously.

He had never encountered anything like this in Kamar-Taj.

Kaecilius, a Master of the Mystic Arts, wanted to see this brat, yet the brat had refused him outright. It was outrageous.

As one of his followers, Cade was naturally furious.

But he did not dare break down the door.

In Kamar-Taj, violating any sorcerer's private space was strictly forbidden.

Even the Sorcerer Supreme would not enter another sorcerer's room without permission.

With that rule in place, he naturally lacked the nerve. After venting his anger with a few more words, he finally turned and left.

Wang Yang frowned, but once the man had left, he put the matter out of his mind.

Yet he had barely begun practicing.

Another knock came at his door.

"Who is it now?"

Wang Yang was growing impatient too.

After being treated like that, anyone would have been in a foul mood.

With a grim expression, Wang Yang opened the door.

This time, he saw someone else.

It was none other than Kaecilius, whom he had seen at the entrance to Kamar-Taj not long ago!

"Greetings, Master Kaecilius!"

He could disregard an ordinary sorcerer, but Wang Yang still had to show respect to a Master of the Mystic Arts.

"There's no need for formalities. I've come to apologize for Cade's rudeness!"

As Kaecilius spoke, he bowed in apology.

Wang Yang's jaw nearly dropped.

Kaecilius, reputed to be arrogant and stubborn, actually seemed so humble.

"There's no need for that, Master Kaecilius!"

Wang Yang hurried to help him straighten up.

Kaecilius rose with his assistance, then studied Wang Yang carefully. "I hear you're quite talented?"

"Not at all, not at all. Those are just exaggerated rumors!"

Wang Yang hurriedly answered modestly.

"The sorcerers of Kamar-Taj don't spread exaggerated rumors!"

Kaecilius looked at Wang Yang and replied noncommittally.

"Come with me. Let me see just how talented you are!"

With that, Kaecilius turned and walked away.

He gave Wang Yang no chance to refuse.

Wang Yang could only follow helplessly.

Meanwhile, two people were watching everything from within the Mirror Dimension.

They were Hamir and Wong.

"Wong, we both want Kaecilius to teach Wang Yang, but given his temperament... are we really going to let him take Wang Yang away like this?"

Hamir watched the scene with a frown.

"This is Kamar-Taj. Kaecilius won't do anything to him!"

Wong answered without hesitation.

Hamir shook his head too. "You're right!"

In Kamar-Taj, no one could defy the Sorcerer Supreme's prohibitions.

"That boy Wang Yang is lucky. He'll probably get some pointers from Kaecilius!" Hamir said with a smile.

"It's not luck. Kaecilius was bound to do this!"

Wong shook his head, then continued, "Kaecilius is powerful, but he has a fatal weakness: he's too proud and stubborn. That makes him easier to manipulate than he realizes!"

All of this had been part of Wong's plan.

He had merely hinted that he was stronger than Kaecilius. Sure enough, Kaecilius had questioned Hamir and learned of Wang Yang's existence.

With his refusal to accept defeat, Kaecilius would naturally want to surpass Wong in teaching disciples as well.

That made seeking out Wang Yang inevitable.

Of course, this was also Kaecilius's way of winning Wang Yang over. None of it escaped Wong's notice.

"Wong, I never realized you were so cunning!"

Hamir looked at Wong in surprise. "That honest-looking face of yours really had me fooled!"

Hamir had never expected Wong to have so many tricks up his sleeve.

He had even factored Kaecilius's personality into his scheme.

This exploited Kaecilius's competitive streak too. If Wong had approached him directly, Kaecilius probably would not have paid him any mind.

"I hope Wang Yang studies hard and doesn't let our efforts go to waste!"

Wong spoke slowly.

Outside Kaecilius's room.

Kaecilius looked Wang Yang up and down, his penetrating gaze making Wang Yang a little uneasy.

Still, he was not worried that Kaecilius would harm him.

On the contrary, he was an outstanding Master of the Mystic Arts in Kamar-Taj.

Every day, he led others into battle against invaders.

If not for the obsession he could never let go of.

Kaecilius would surely have been Kamar-Taj's finest sorcerer after the Sorcerer Supreme.

He was a pitiful man. His wife and child had both died, and before coming to Kamar-Taj, he had already lost the will to live.

After discovering magic, he studied diligently because he believed it might give him a chance to bring his wife and child back to life.
