Background / History
Life in the Senju Compound
Kushina initially lives with the Senju Clan after arriving in Konoha, with Mito Uzumaki identified as her only relative there. She has little money of her own and turns to Tsunade and Nawaki for spending money rather than admitting to Mito that she wants snacks 15.
Her outsider status, fiery temper, and classmates’ mockery leave her with almost no friends at the Ninja Academy. After she defeats a classmate’s ninja older brother, students deliberately avoid her or whisper about her. When she finally tells Tsunade that nobody at school likes her, Tsunade promises to defend her against further bullying 32 38.
Friendship with Karn
Kushina meets Karn as a frequent chocolate-and-candy customer. When she tries to buy fifty chocolate bars for five thousand ryō, she discovers that the price has doubled to two hundred ryō per bar. Karn gives her thirty bars for the price of twenty-five and establishes a continuing bonus of one free bar for every five purchased 15.
She later requests a reservation for one hundred bars, only to learn that she must pay before Karn will hold them. For Nawaki’s hospital visit, she buys a custom cake for one hundred thousand ryō, delighted both by its appearance and by the possibility of eating whatever Nawaki cannot finish 18 24 25.
Karn’s willingness to speak to her as an equal—and his refusal to mock her appearance—makes his shop a refuge from school. Her attempt to prank him by impersonating Kawaki Miwa backfires when he mistakes her for an intruder and fires into the floor. She apologizes and surrenders her wallet as compensation; Karn then takes her for ramen, where she eats three large bowls 25 31 32.
Tsunade recognizes the compensation charge as excessive and gives Kushina another fifty thousand ryō, warning that she has already spent future allowances. Kushina later challenges Karn about taking her money after discovering his enormous writing income. Both Karn and Tsunade forbid her from reading his adult novels 33 38.
Graduation
Kushina repeatedly visits Karn’s shop while he is away and asks to be notified when he returns. Upon his return, she proudly shows him her Forehead Protector and announces that she graduated third in her school 40 41.
Karn celebrates with a cake nearly a meter tall. Kushina plans to share it with her squadmates and invites him to join them, though he declines. She also leaves Tsunade a slice with a reminder to eat it; Tsunade instead takes the larger, unlabelled portion, prompting an indignant reaction the next morning 41 43.
Cloud Ninja Attack
Hiruzen Sarutobi and Danzo plan to exploit Cloud Ninja spies to strengthen Kushina’s attachment to Konoha while probing Karn’s medicine business. Hiruzen deploys ANBU and seals the border toward the Land of Lightning, expecting the incident to make Kushina grateful to the village and her rescuer 44.
On Kushina’s first day with her mission team, she visits Karn’s Dessert Shop. A Cloud Ninja spy targeting both of them arrives, but Karn kills him with firearms and carries Kushina into a hidden basement. She is frightened but unharmed; they emerge once Konoha’s forces arrive 44 45 49.
Minato Namikaze says an ANBU member warned him that Kushina was in danger. His concern initially improves her opinion of him, but Karn questions why ANBU summoned a genin instead of intervening. When recounting the incident to Tsunade, Kushina also recognizes the inconsistency and considers that the ANBU member may have been following orders 45 46.
Karn leaves Konoha despite Kushina’s plea to stay under Tsunade’s protection. Afraid of losing the only friend she can confide in, she repeatedly asks whether he will return. Tsunade reassures her; when Karn comes back over half a month later, Tsunade reports that Kushina has been asking about him constantly and feeling down 46 47 48.
Tsunade later remarks that Kushina practically treats Karn as family and is less close even to her own teammates. Karn attributes this attachment partly to her isolation and the suspicious circumstances surrounding the attack 52.
Becoming the Nine-Tails Jinchūriki
As Mito’s death approaches, Kushina privately asks Karn what she should do if she becomes a monster. Rather than treating her as frightening, he redirects the conversation to an unpaid dessert bill of 763,700 ryō, then gives her lollipops. The encounter eases her anxiety, although Tsunade subsequently confiscates half the candy 53 54.
Kushina subsequently becomes the Nine-Tails jinchūriki, and Mito passes away. By Chapter 77, she has spent two months becoming accustomed to the beast’s power. She wants to master it quickly, but has no direct instructor and must work out much of its use herself. Tsunade secures permission for her to train and take missions, but the village will not allow her to leave Konoha 77 79.
Following Karn’s advice, she attempts to approach the Nine-Tails as an intelligent equal rather than merely a disaster. Its initial response is hostile, and she instead uses her chains to seize a limited supply of its chakra. The negative emotions within that chakra restrict how much she can safely control 85 115.
Sealing Squad Career and Conflict with Minato
After a period on a mission squad, Kushina’s exceptional sealing talent prompts Hiruzen to transfer her to the Sealing Squad. She also frequently assists the Barrier Team, including repairing barrier runes on C-rank missions. Although these duties develop her skills, the reduced availability of ordinary missions limits her income, and she makes sealing scrolls to sell 79 85 98.
Kushina offers to teach Karn Uzumaki sealing techniques, including techniques unavailable in Konoha’s own collection. She prepares introductory explanations, corrects his basic work, and later guides him through Cursed Seal Jutsu 83 91 93.
Her relationship with Minato deteriorates when she regards his comments about Karn as attempts to turn her against her friend. She restrains Minato with six Adamantine Sealing Chains, suppressing the chakra he needs for Flying Thunder God, and throws him down the road. ANBU takes over when the Security Force attempts to intervene 98 115.
By the time she repairs Konoha’s barriers, her sealing ability exceeds the Sealing Squad captain’s, and other ninja begin addressing her as “Lady Kushina” 115.
Chakra Control Breakthrough and Hokage’s Office Dispute
Karn gives Kushina a Calming Draught after she explains that tailed-beast chakra makes her irritable. Trusting him, she keeps the potion’s purpose private until a supervised training session, where it allows her to control much more chakra than before. She manifests five tails without losing control and briefly demonstrates a dense, blood-red second state. Tsunade treats the resulting burns and asks to study the potion 115.
Hiruzen subsequently summons Kushina to help Minato resolve sealing-related problems with the Flying Thunder God Technique. She refuses the assignment. Danzo’s accusations that she is neglecting her obligations to Konoha provoke her into releasing visible tailed-beast chakra, although she retains enough restraint not to enter her second cloak state. Hiruzen orders ANBU to stand down and withdraws the assignment 122.
Kushina reports the incident to Tsunade rather than returning directly to work. She considers Mito, not Konoha’s leadership, responsible for most of her education, and believes her extensive work on the village barrier has already repaid the village. Tsunade confronts Hiruzen and forces him to settle the dispute 122.
Serum Enhancement and Nine-Tails Chakra Mode
Karn offers Kushina the perfected Extremis Virus Serum as a means of protecting herself from coercion. After testing her blood and tissue, he administers it in a room fortified with barriers and sealing jutsu. The enhancement strengthens her body and chains, which begin drawing chakra from the Nine-Tails 124.
Karn takes her to the Land of Tea to test the result. Kushina stops the chains from draining the Nine-Tails, promises to return its chakra someday, and draws on the chakra already stored within her. She immediately enters golden Nine-Tails Chakra Mode, surprising Karn with the size of her advancement 124.
Their ensuing spar develops her use of speed, sensory perception, and sealing chains. She later demonstrates the mode to Tsunade and Nawaki, narrowly defeating Nawaki after he counters with Wood Release. Neither uses their full strength, and Kushina remains insufficiently accustomed to her maximum speed to use it without injuring her ankles 125 127.
Kushina begins training in the Tailed Beast Bomb and Tailed Beast Mode. Four days of sparring with Hatake Sakumo improve her combat experience and her ability to handle fast, lethal attacks. At this stage, the Nine-Tails still refuses to help her achieve Tailed Beast Mode 128 129.
Karn advises her to improve the beast’s living conditions, address it by name, and present herself as the person destined to guide the tailed beasts toward peace. He supplies information about the beasts and their ancient history to support this approach. Kushina remains skeptical of the presentation but agrees to try it 129.
War against Kumogakure
Kushina is deployed to the Cloud Ninja front, where her strength and possession of the Bashosen become significant factors in the conflict. Reports reaching Orochimaru state that even Kumogakure’s Eight-Tails and Two-Tails jinchūriki together cannot match her 132 158.
On the Land of Hot Water front, Tsunade persuades her to contribute more than fifty healing potions to the army. Kushina also stockpiles borrowed Nine-Tails chakra in preparation for fighting the two enemy jinchūriki. Her improved treatment of Kurama has reduced his hostility enough that he no longer interferes by absorbing her chakra during Nine-Tails Chakra Mode 160.
Her chains’ chakra absorption gives her a major advantage over enemy jinchūriki. She nearly captures the Two-Tails’ host in one battle, but the younger A intervenes. Kushina refuses to surrender the Six Paths Tool Karn gave her merely to satisfy Kumogakure’s peace demands 166 167.
After failed negotiations, Tsunade draws the Cloud Ninja into an ambush, which opens with a Tailed Beast Bomb from Kushina. Kumogakure ultimately accepts Konoha’s demands and agrees to ransom the Two-Tails jinchūriki and other captives 168.
Kushina returns to a warm civilian welcome, aided by newspaper coverage of her battlefield achievements. This contrasts with the unease of some Konoha ninja, who continue fearing a Nine-Tails rampage despite her demonstrated control and Tsunade’s explanations 168 172.
Shared Household and Village Politics
After returning from the front, Kushina reunites with Karn, who tells her about an Uzumaki named Naruto with a connection to her. She agrees to meet him. Her relationship with Karn develops into a shared domestic life, and he plans a larger home on Konoha’s outskirts for them 168 169.
Kushina supervises renovations, attends jōnin meetings beside Tsunade, and no longer requires ANBU protection at her existing level of strength. Hiruzen remains unhappy that the Nine-Tails jinchūriki is becoming part of an outsider’s household 172.
Her acquaintance with Uchiha Mikoto develops into a close friendship. Mikoto initially approaches at Fugaku’s suggestion, but the two spend time discussing village politics, travel, and domestic matters. Kushina begins learning housework and grocery shopping, preferring to care for the home herself even when Karn offers future housekeeping robots 170 176 179.
Karn directs Kushina to attend an important jōnin meeting and follow Tsunade or Uchiha Yashiro’s lead. Later, when Orochimaru asks whether she wants to lead the Sealing Squad, she declines because she intends to travel outside the village 176 179.
Before leaving the Shinobi World, Karn explains the scale of his businesses and offers to let Kushina manage them during his absence 184.
Pregnancy and Childbirth
In Year 50 of Konoha, Kushina is the Barrier Team leader, and her pregnancy temporarily delays modifications to the village’s barriers. Yakushi Nonō confirms that the fetus is healthy and due the following month. Kushina objects to an excessive visible guard presence, while Orochimaru secretly assigns additional ANBU protection and orders Hyuga Hiashi and Shisui to strengthen security 212.
Her Uzumaki constitution allows her to remain physically active, even climbing walls and crossing rooftops late in pregnancy. Nevertheless, she reduces unnecessary travel and activity. Karn returns during this period and learns that they are expecting a child, whom he anticipates will be Naruto 212.
By this time, Kushina belongs to Konoha High Command, although she seldom attends jōnin meetings and obtains much of her political news from Shinobi World Weekly 213.
Obito persuades the Fourth Raikage to cooperate with Kirigakure in attacking Konoha during her delivery. Tsunade brings Nonō to stay with Kushina, and the village increases its ANBU guard 217.
Kurama does not exploit the weakening seal during childbirth. Although he could escape while Kushina is distracted, he remains inside her and notices an unusual familiarity in the child’s chakra. Later chapters establish Naruto as Kushina and Karn’s son 218 279.
Administration and Family Life
Karn discusses plans to rebuild the Land of Fire’s capital and move Konoha nearby with Kushina. He also tells her that he has sent people to bring back a surviving Uzumaki from Kusagakure. Kushina later oversees the country’s reforms as economic growth attracts migrants from neighboring lands 228 277.
After Karn strengthens her further, Kushina tests her Tremor-Tremor Fruit Serum abilities at the seaside. That evening, he tells her that Tsunade has given birth to his daughter Yoko. Kushina eventually forgives him, although her later frustration over his relationships with Tsunade and Nonō shows that the matter is not immediately resolved emotionally 279 288.
As a mother, Kushina closely monitors Naruto’s training and disciplines him with her chains. Karn privately encourages Naruto’s instructors to attribute demanding training requirements to her, improving his own standing with their son while provoking friction between mother and child 279 285.
At the Daimyo’s Mansion, Kushina receives Konan’s request for Konoha to withdraw from the Land of Rain. She explains that the war has already ended and refuses to intervene in affairs between countries. After sensing Konan’s malice, she informs Karn about the encounter 288.
During the annexation of the Land of Lightning, Kushina uses a series of tremor-powered punches to generate an earthquake across twenty to thirty kilometers. The ten-thousand-strong Cloud Ninja army falls into confusion and collapses within an hour 368.
Later Family Affairs and Ōtsutsuki Operations
When Karn returns to the Federal Capital, Kushina is at the Daimyo’s Mansion. She tells him that Yoko has graduated and that Naruto and Kakashi have lost contact during a mission; Karn reassures her that he has prepared for Naruto’s situation 366.
Kushina remains involved with the family as Karn arranges for Naruto, Yoko, Sasuke, and their companions to explore another world. She also objects to Naruto’s suggestion that he learned his overwhelming-force fighting style from her 368.
After Ōtsutsuki Isshiki is discovered, Karn tells Kushina that only she, as the Shinobi World’s strongest person apart from him, can protect those who remain behind. She agrees to help resolve the threat on the condition that he later takes her to see Naruto. She summons Nawaki and Tobirama to coordinate action against the hidden organization 383.
Karn prepares magical spatial containment for the operation and takes Kushina to the location of Isshiki’s Ten-Tails. Her tremor attacks force Jigen to release Isshiki’s power, after which she beats him nearly to death. Karn stops her so that Isshiki can be captured and interrogated 383 384.
While Tobirama pursues Kara’s members and collaborators, Karn assigns Kushina to travel to the moon to capture Ōtsutsuki Toneri and obtain the giant Tenseigan. The supplied account records the assignment rather than its completion 384.
Appearance
- Hair: Flame-like red hair, which she sweeps back to display her graduation Forehead Protector. It reaches her waist by thirteen, and she later ties it into a ponytail on the battlefield 41 77 160.
- Eyes: Blue in her ordinary state; become vertical slits when she draws on tailed-beast chakra 98 115 279.
- Face: Slightly chubby cheeks; she often puffs them out when displeased 18 32 41.
- Ninja attire: Wears a Forehead Protector after graduating from the Ninja Academy. She retains a preference for Shinobi World clothing even after Karn supplies clothes from other worlds 41 383.
- Later civilian attire: Wears white clothing with a black skirt when receiving Konan at the Daimyo’s Mansion 288.
- Chakra manifestations: Her red hair can float when she is angry or channeling tailed-beast chakra. Nine-Tails Chakra Mode surrounds her with golden chakra bearing spiral and tomoe patterns 122 124 285.
Personality
Kushina is fiery, outspoken, and mischievous, but social rejection makes her particularly receptive to kindness and respect. Being treated as a child or mocked for her appearance frustrates her; Karn’s claim that they are equals as customer and shopkeeper immediately lifts her spirits. When her prank risks damaging their friendship, she becomes genuinely contrite 25 32 38.
She has an enormous appetite and little restraint where sweets are concerned. She exhausts her chocolate supply rapidly, spends heavily on desserts, and uses snacks to soften Tsunade up before asking for money. Her affection also appears in practical gestures: bringing Tsunade tea during late-night research, organizing her documents, and saving cake for her 18 25 32 43.
She responds much better to gentleness than coercion. Danzo’s attempt to force her cooperation provokes open defiance, whereas trusted requests from Karn or Tsunade often secure her help. She is also fiercely protective of Karn, refusing to tolerate attacks on him or relinquish his gifts to appease Kumogakure 122 158 160 167.
Her growing confidence can become boastfulness, particularly about sealing jutsu or overwhelming combat power. Nevertheless, she is capable of empathy toward Kurama, improving his environment and returning borrowed chakra rather than treating him solely as a captive resource 93 124 160 217.
In domestic life, she remains affectionate, easily embarrassed, and trusting toward her family. She values personally caring for her household and becomes a strict, sometimes intimidating mother who closely supervises Naruto’s training 179 279 285 383.
Her attachment to Karn does not eliminate jealousy or resentment. Although she forgives him after learning about Tsunade and Yoko, she remains upset over having failed to notice his relationships with Tsunade and Nonō 279 288.
Abilities & Skills
Transformation Technique
Kushina can disguise herself as another person, demonstrated by her impersonation of Kawaki Miwa 31.
- Reproduces Miwa’s appearance convincingly enough to enter Karn’s room in disguise 31.
- Her behavior gives her away: Karn notices the unusual greeting and childish manner of peeking through the doorway 32.
Combat and Teamwork
- Defeats a classmate’s older brother, who is already a ninja; his rank is not specified 38.
- Trains daily and practices throwing kunai 18 31.
- Graduates third in her school despite previously saying that she struggles with classes 38 41.
- Cooperates with her new teammates during their initial combat exercise, fulfilling their jōnin leader’s passing condition 44.
- Learns Tsunade’s Monstrous Strength, combining it with Nine-Tails Chakra Mode’s speed 124 125.
- Receives four days of practical instruction from Hatake Sakumo, improving her response to extremely fast swordsmanship and difficult-to-perceive Wind Release attacks 129.
- Later favors overwhelming opponents with enormous chakra reserves, Tailed Beast Bombs, sealing chains, and repeated tremor attacks 368.
- Uses a shadow clone to remain with the returning procession while her real body goes to see Karn 168.
Sealing Jutsu Studies
- Mito regularly reminds her to study Sealing Jutsu 38.
- Karn initially expects her to become a master of Sealing Jutsu; her later development fulfills that expectation through extensive barrier work and expertise surpassing the Sealing Squad captain’s 37 115.
- Receives several years of personal instruction from Mito. By fourteen, only a handful of Konoha ninja exceed her sealing ability 85.
- Possesses Uzumaki techniques absent from Konoha’s own holdings and teaches Karn basic sealing principles and Cursed Seal Jutsu 83 91 93.
- Understands the relationship between sealing jutsu, Barrier Ninjutsu, and Cursed Seal Jutsu, although she has not yet mastered all of the Uzumaki Clan’s most advanced techniques during her early instruction of Karn 93.
- Repairs and reinforces village barriers, eventually doing most of the work on their improvement. Hiruzen describes her sealing jutsu as likely the best in Konoha 115 122.
- Makes sealing scrolls for sale to supplement her limited mission income 98.
- Can establish sealing barriers, although Karn chooses magical spatial containment for the operation against Isshiki 383.
Prospective Nine-Tails Host
- Is designated as Konoha’s next Nine-Tails jinchūriki while Mito is still alive 33 44.
- Danzo wants Root to train her so she can eventually wield the tailed beast’s power as a wartime deterrent 33.
- Her unusual chakra makes her suited to containing the entire Nine-Tails, leaving Konoha’s leadership without a practical alternative as Mito approaches death 52.
- The early chapters do not show the transfer, but subsequent chapters confirm that it occurs and that she succeeds Mito as the Nine-Tails’ host 33 44 47 77 79 85.
Adamantine Sealing Chains
- Manifests golden chains from her back to bind opponents and suppress their chakra. Six chains immobilize Minato and prevent him from gathering chakra for Flying Thunder God 98.
- Uses eight chains in her spar with Karn; individual chains can extend dozens of meters 125.
- Employs them offensively, defensively, and as footholds for aerial movement. Two chains guarding her front block Karn’s Confringo 125.
- After her serum enhancement, the chains acquire a Wood Release-like ability to absorb chakra, allowing her to drain and store Nine-Tails chakra 124 127.
- Their combination of restraint and chakra absorption is particularly effective against enemy jinchūriki 166 167.
- Also uses them in family life to restrain Naruto during discipline 279 285.
Nine-Tails Chakra and Transformations
- Early chakra cloak: Initially controls approximately three tails’ worth of chakra; approaching four tails threatens her reason because of the beast’s negative emotions 115.
- Calming Draught-assisted control: Uses the potion to reduce emotional interference, manifests five tails without losing control, and briefly enters a dense, blood-red second state. The high-density chakra burns her skin before Tsunade treats it 115.
- Further multi-tail control: Tsunade later recalls that Kushina had reached seven tails with medicinal assistance before acquiring golden Nine-Tails Chakra Mode 127.
- Nine-Tails Chakra Mode: Produces a golden cloak with spiral and tomoe markings and greatly increases speed, strength, and vitality 124 125.
- Sensory perception: Can distinguish goodwill and malice in this mode. She uses it to assess Karn’s attitude and later senses Konan’s hostile intent 125 288.
- Speed: Moves quickly enough to evade Karn’s spells by reacting as he gathers magic. Her speed is compared to Space-Time Ninjutsu, though her early lack of conditioning prevents safe use of its maximum 125 127.
- Tailed Beast Bomb: Initially trains toward the technique under Karn’s advice and later uses it in battle against Kumogakure 127 128 129 168.
- Tailed Beast Transformation: Her battlefield use of the Nine-Tails’ power includes a transformation witnessed by fellow Konoha ninja, contributing to their fear of a possible rampage 168.
- Cooperative chakra use: By late pregnancy, Kurama no longer attempts to seize her chakra, and she returns his unused chakra after drawing on his power. At that specific stage, he still has not fully opened his heart to enable Kurama Mode 217.
- Later assessment: Karn subsequently evaluates her in terms of a Perfect Jinchūriki condition, emphasizing her extraordinary speed and hostile-intent detection 279.
Enhanced Constitution and Regeneration
- The perfected Extremis Virus Serum grants her Hashirama-cell abilities, strengthens her sealing space, and improves her control of tailed-beast chakra 124.
- Demonstrates rapid regeneration by cutting her arm: the injury gives off a faint red glow and heals without bleeding 127.
- Reports acquiring Wood Release power, with the clearest demonstrated effect being the chakra absorption added to her sealing chains 124 127.
- Her Uzumaki constitution allows substantial mobility even near childbirth 212.
- Later reinforcement gives her top-tier physical recovery, speed, and strength, allowing monstrous physical force even without using chakra 279.
Tremor-Tremor Fruit Serum
- Receives the Tremor-Tremor Fruit Serum from Karn, adding destructive vibration attacks to her enhanced physique and jinchūriki abilities 279.
- Without using full power, fractures the sea like a cracked mirror, raises a hundred-meter tsunami, and propagates a shockwave for several thousand meters 279.
- Generates an earthquake across twenty to thirty kilometers with several punches during the Land of Lightning’s annexation 368.
- Uses tremor-powered blows to force Isshiki’s emergence from Jigen and subsequently overwhelms him in direct combat 384.
Administration
- Progresses from technical sealing work to leadership of the Barrier Team and membership in Konoha High Command 212 213.
- Oversees reforms in the Land of Fire while Karn is away 277.
- Receives a foreign petitioner at the Daimyo’s Mansion and distinguishes personal intervention from affairs between countries 288.
- Coordinates with Nawaki and Tobirama when preparing action against Isshiki’s organization 383.
Equipment / Items
- Forehead Protector — Earned upon graduation and proudly shown to Karn 41.
- Kunai — Used in her throwing practice; she compares their power with Karn’s unfamiliar firearm 31.
- Orange wallet / Small Orange Wallet — Surrendered to Karn after her Transformation Technique prank damages his floor and expends ammunition. She later continues carrying it, but Karn repeatedly collects its contents as interest or repayment on her dessert debt 32 54 77 98 115.

Relationships
- Karn — Shopkeeper who becomes her trusted confidant. His gifts and equal treatment matter to her despite his repeated overcharging; he also saves her during the Cloud Ninja attack. Their relationship later becomes romantic and develops into a shared household and a family with their son Naruto. Karn teaches her how to approach Kurama, gives her major enhancements and equipment, and relies on her to protect the Shinobi World. Her trust remains strong, although his relationships with Tsunade and Nonō cause resentment 25 32 41 45 46 124 129 169 212 279 288 383.
- Tsunade — Distant relative and close household companion. Their similar tempers help them get along; Tsunade supplies spending money, comforts her about school, and promises protection. She later teaches Kushina Monstrous Strength, supervises her chakra training, defends her against Hiruzen and Danzo, and helps care for her during pregnancy. Learning that Tsunade has had Karn’s daughter complicates their relationship 32 33 38 115 122 124 217 279 288.
- Mito Uzumaki — Elderly relative whom she calls “Grandma Mito.” They initially live together, and Mito encourages her sealing studies. As Mito’s health declines, she asks Tsunade to look after Kushina. Mito personally teaches her for several years, passes on the Uzumaki sealing legacy, and is succeeded by Kushina as Nine-Tails jinchūriki before her death 15 32 38 47 79 85 122.
- Nawaki — Fellow resident of the Senju compound who helps fund her snacks. Kushina visits him after his severe injury and brings him an expensive cake. She later compares her progress with his serum-enhanced Wood Release abilities, defeats him in a restrained spar, and works alongside him in wartime and political affairs 15 25 32 124 127 160 279.
- Minato Namikaze — Former classmate whom she initially dislikes because he once mocked her. His concern after the attack briefly softens her attitude, although his ANBU warning raises questions about the incident. She later regards his warnings about Karn as attempts to sow discord, restrains him with her chains, and refuses Hiruzen’s request to help him with Flying Thunder God. Minato continues hoping to resolve their estrangement, but Kushina openly chooses Karn 41 45 46 98 115 122 168 179.
- Hiruzen Sarutobi — Initially refuses Danzo’s demand to restrict her visits to Karn, but later approves a scheme using the Cloud Ninja threat to deepen her loyalty to Konoha. He recognizes her sealing expertise and transfers her to specialist work, yet grows increasingly wary of her strength and attachment to Karn. His attempt to assign her to Minato ends in a confrontation, and her later independence frustrates his ability to control the Nine-Tails jinchūriki 33 44 98 115 122 128 129 172.
- Danzo — Wants Root to train her as a future jinchūriki and proposes the scheme involving the Cloud Ninja spies. Mito’s protection initially prevents him from approaching her freely. Tsunade later warns Kushina to avoid him, and his coercive intervention in the Hokage’s Office provokes her controlled release of tailed-beast chakra 33 44 122.
- Kurama / Nine-Tails — Initially a terrifying presence whose brutality and negative emotions make Kushina fear becoming a monster. Their relationship progresses from restraint and forcibly seized chakra to respectful borrowing, improved living conditions, and coexistence. Kurama eventually trusts her enough not to escape during childbirth, even when the seal could no longer effectively stop him 53 54 85 115 124 129 160 217 218 278.
- Naruto Uzumaki — Her son with Karn. She is affectionate but strict about his training, frequently restraining him with her chains when he misbehaves. Later worries about his missions and asks Karn to take her to see him after the Isshiki operation 212 279 285 366 368 383.
- Uchiha Mikoto — Initially an acquaintance from the dessert shop who approaches more often at Fugaku’s request. They become close companions, shopping together, discussing private matters, and sharing domestic advice. Mikoto accompanies Kushina during her pregnancy 170 176 179 212.
- Yakushi Nonō — Provides prenatal examinations and confirms that Kushina’s child is healthy. Later stays with her to assist with care and protection near childbirth. Kushina subsequently learns of Nonō’s relationship with Karn and resents having failed to notice it earlier 212 217 288.
- Orochimaru — Oversees her wartime deployment, offers her leadership of the Sealing Squad, and strengthens security around her pregnancy as Fourth Hokage 158 179 212.
- Hatake Sakumo — Gives her four days of valuable combat instruction, helping her adapt her exceptional speed to practical exchanges against a highly experienced opponent 129.
- Senju Yoko — Tsunade and Karn’s daughter. Kushina initially learns of her birth during Karn’s disclosure about Tsunade; later remains part of the shared family household and reports Yoko’s graduation to Karn 279 366.
- Konan — Receives an audience with Kushina at the Daimyo’s Mansion to seek intervention in the Land of Rain. Kushina rejects the request and senses her malice; Konan regards her as both the strongest jinchūriki and a future Akatsuki target 288.
- Ōtsutsuki Isshiki — Enemy whom Kushina overwhelms with tremor attacks. Karn stops her before she kills him so that he can be captured and interrogated 384.
