The instant the dragon blood slipped down her throat, Daenerys's eyes flew wide open.
A violent, searing power swept through every part of her body.
She felt as though her body had been thrown into a furnace. The excruciating pain drew a stifled moan from her, and she began trembling involuntarily.
Liu Qian steadied her, sending a gentle stream of magic power into her body to help her channel and adapt to this force.
The pain gradually faded, replaced by a sensation unlike anything she had ever experienced.
The process lasted about a quarter of an hour.

Five dragon eggs of different colors rested on a stone pedestal in the center of the room.
"Choose a dragon egg of your own, Dany."
Liu Qian gestured toward them. "It will be your future companion and mount."
Daenerys stepped forward excitedly, her gaze sweeping over the dragon eggs.
Some were mottled bronze, others pale green like jade...
In the end, her gaze was drawn to an unremarkable grayish-brown dragon egg.
Its color resembled ash, and its surface was roughly textured. It even looked somewhat dull.
Yet Daenerys sensed a restrained, tenacious power within this egg.
She reached out and gently stroked the shell.
