There are always a few spare parts after taking something apart and putting it back together. This is...
Shinji thought it over. He hadn't expected that guy to actually dare chase them from the Land of Wind all the way to the Land of Fire.
He just didn't know whether the guy had visited Konoha before this and asked around about him.
Most likely, he had. Otherwise, there was no reason for him to wander around the Land of Fire.
But now I have the advantage!
If that guy really dared attack Konoha, Shinji was ready to have someone else kill the Cursed Spirit for him.
"Let's put Hidan back together first, then work out a plan. By the way, why did you change masks?"
"Oh, I thought the old mask was a little plain, so I switched to one with a pattern this time."
It wasn't just patterned. This mask also had two fake eyeholes. It looked as though there were two holes, but one was actually a painted-on eye.
Shinji more or less understood what Tobi meant.
Although everyone who had seen him back then was either dead or no longer in Konoha, changing masks would certainly offer more peace of mind, just to be safe.
Presumably, Tobi had also realized that Shinji would be staying in Konoha for a little while.
The Jashin Cult's Immortality did have its merits. Even after being chopped into pieces, Hidan still hadn't died. He was just somewhat weakened and withdrawn.
As far as Hidan was concerned, being chased around and beaten was humiliating enough. Having Shinji see him in this wretched state on top of that was utterly mortifying.
"That move where he turns into sand is just too unfair. Otherwise, I'd have hacked that bastard to death ages ago!" Hidan argued in his own defense.
Shinji really wanted to say, *Isn't your Death Controlling Possessed Blood unfair too?
