Background / History

Uzui trained as a ninja for more than a decade before developing his own Breathing Style. Nikaido recognized that he already possessed extensive combat experience and had killed people more than once. His family arranged his marriages to three women, whom he considers his most trusted partners; he is reluctant to discuss his ninja family’s past 32 44 45.

During his brief apprenticeship under Nikaido Mei, Uzui became impatient and insisted on leaving for the Final Selection. Nikaido tried to keep him longer because of the selection’s high death rate, but could not subdue him. His exceptional body and established ninja skills allowed him to overcome her despite his rudimentary Thunder Breathing and newly created Sound Breathing 32.

Appearance

Uzui is a white-haired young man, nearly two meters tall, with an exceptionally muscular build. Xia Xi estimates that he looks seventeen or eighteen; this is an impression rather than a confirmed age 32 40.

Personality

Uzui prizes “flashiness” in combat, food, appearance, and companionship. He confidently displays himself in public without concern for onlookers, adopts grandiose divine titles, and describes his three wives as the “flashiest possible lineup.” His taste for spectacle also affects his fighting: he sometimes risks entering an opponent’s attack range rather than interrupt a flowing combination 39 40 42 43.

Despite his pride, he can acknowledge another swordsman’s superiority. He accepts Xia Xi’s strength, later admits that Xia Xi is stronger than him by a considerable margin, and takes his warning about Sound Breathing seriously. He is also observant enough to notice the emotional distance beneath Xia Xi’s helpful behavior 40 44 45.

Uzui frequently teases Kanae about Xia Xi, but stops when she makes her position clear. When Xia Xi recounts the deaths of his family, Uzui drops his joking manner and offers sympathy 45.
