Power Progression

Stage / Realm / Level Chapter Notes
Novice mage after ten years of training 1 6 Possesses few spells and very limited magical reserves. He compares his cultivation to roughly half of the first Qi Refining level; this is an analogy, not a confirmed formal realm.
Shikon-enhanced recovery and crafting materials 6 7 Enhances his brush, ink, and spirit elixir rather than embedding shards in his body. The elixir’s restorative effect improves thirty to fifty times, reducing full recovery from one or two hours to one or two minutes. His innate aptitude remains unchanged.
Access to the Shikigami Technique 9 Receives permission to learn shikigami contracting as a reward for his contributions, along with two cubic meters of spirit fluid for training.
Spirit-sealing and shrine-crafting instruction 13 Receives five Intermediate Spirit-Sealing Talismans and learns the Spirit-Sealing Talisman Refining Method, shikigami altar construction, and Spirit Shrine crafting.
Reliable premium low-tier talisman production 14 Produces three to five finished talismans daily, compared with roughly one low-grade talisman per month previously. His shard-enhanced products are comparable to Intermediate Talismans.
First contracted shikigami: Great Katsura Tree Mask 16 Contracts the captured Flesh-Bodied Human Face using a Spirit Shrine, his blood, and an Intermediate Spirit-Sealing Talisman. Gains access to its demonic power and five support abilities.
Demonstrated use of a demonic sword 25 Channels the mask’s demonic power into borrowed Tessaiga while focusing on protecting his companions. Transforms it into a golden blade half the size and thickness of its normal demonic form.
Begins studying Urasue’s Demon Art legacy 35 36 Enju teaches him material selection, body shaping, firing, and soul summoning. The passages document instruction, not a completed resurrection performed by Li Xia.
Fire-Tipped Spear obtained 47 49 Acquires Totosai’s weapon forged from the Thunderstrike Blade with scraps of flame meteoric iron. Its fire attribute is confirmed, but its exact power is unknown.
Estimated one-and-a-half-star arm strength 49 Following continued training, estimates his ordinary arm strength at one and a half stars. A premium Strength Talisman should raise it to two and a half stars, approaching three; he also lifts a vat weighing at least five hundred kilograms with both hands.

Background / History

Li Xia was formerly a young man from Huaxia and a member of its Communist Youth League. Reborn on the northern peninsula with his memories intact, he initially expected an ordinary second life. At five, his family’s aptitude testing revealed a world of demons, ghosts, shrine maidens, and mages 1.

His father, Li Zhun, was a cultivator who married an ordinary woman rather than a partner with comparable aptitude. Li Xia inherited weak cultivation potential and was denied the systematic advanced instruction available to talented members of the Li Family’s main lineage. Despite ten years of diligent training, he remained a novice mage. His mother’s death in an incident involving demons and ghosts, when he was just over six, further strengthened his desire for power 1.

Li Zhun intended him to study in Tokyo and eventually manage the family’s businesses. Li Xia reluctantly accepted enrollment at Water Cedar Junior High, where Kagome Higurashi was his classmate. Hearing her name alongside references to the Shikon Jewel awakened his memories of Inuyasha, giving him a source of foreknowledge about the world he now inhabited 1 2.

Appearance

Li Xia has a handsome, sharply defined face that still retains traces of childhood during the opening chapter 1 35.

  • Keeps prepared talismans inside his clothing for rapid use 3.
  • Wears the Great Katsura Tree Mask when drawing on his shikigami’s abilities 16 25.
  • Uses disguises while retrieving supplies after staging his death 19.

Personality

Li Xia is ambitious, disciplined, and unwilling to accept the comfortable but subordinate life planned for him. He trains through summer heat and winter cold, practices calligraphy and painting for talisman production, and treats supernatural power as the foundation of both survival and longevity 1 6.

His caution extends beyond combat. He tests enhanced elixir on mice before drinking it, avoids placing Shikon Shards directly in his body because of their corrupting influence, and postpones bodily modification until he can obtain reliable experimental data. He also recognizes when opponents are beyond his strength rather than assuming foreknowledge guarantees victory 6 17 18.

He deliberately cultivates goodwill, presenting requests in terms likely to appeal to each listener. His friendship with the group is nevertheless not entirely calculated: he sincerely objects to Inuyasha’s mistreatment, welcomes kind demons and half-demons, and shows genuine concern for his companions 20 22 40 42 49.

His compassion has limits. He feels guilty over Mayu’s capture and the innocent flight attendants caught in his escape, yet accepts the elders’ handling of Mayu and deliberately destroys the Smith Family’s plane to protect himself. His methods combine real loyalty with deception and a willingness to cause deaths when he believes his survival is at stake 13 18 19.

Abilities & Skills

Talisman Arts

Li Xia practices the Li Family’s inherited branch of talisman arts, storing spells in prepared paper talismans to compensate for limited magical reserves and slow casting 1.

  • Strength Talismans: Increase physical strength; premium versions can place enough strain on a human body to damage its flesh 3 16.
  • Agility Talismans: Improve reflexes and attack speed 3.
  • Divine Wind and Lightness Talismans: Support rapid movement and, together with his mask, aerial escape 3 18 19.
  • Evil-Repelling Talismans: Ward off evil, suppress demonic influence, and expose the Spiderhead Leader’s disguise 3 24.
  • Sealing Talismans: Provide long-term suppression of demons, demonic remains, and evil weapons, unlike temporary repulsion 7.
  • Crafting limitation: His original reserves are so small that one attempted Strength Talisman consumes more than half his magical power. His first attempt with the enhanced brush fails because its unfamiliar weight disrupts the stroke 6.

Great Katsura Tree Mask

His first shikigami supplies demonic power while remaining under his control. It can also hold his magical power and is activated by channeling power into its card 16.

  • Brief flight: The mask flies freely alone, but carrying Li Xia drastically reduces speed and consumes demonic power 16.
  • Strength enhancement: Raises his strength to more than ten times its original level. Unlike a premium Strength Talisman, it allows at least ten minutes of use without irreparable strain damage 16.
  • Shikon Shard detection: Lets him perceive a shard even through the steel plates of an alloy safe 16.
  • Energy devouring: Can consume other kinds of energy and convert them into reserves or fuel for growth. The proposed transfer of Li Zhun’s magical power is an example, not a documented event 16.
  • Fine bodily control: Offers a possible means of increasing bone density, muscle density, and resilience. Li Xia postpones modifying himself because of the risks 16 17.
  • Demonic weapon compatibility: Allows him to power Tessaiga and pursue weapons ordinarily usable only by demons 25 38 39.

Shikon Shard Enhancement

Li Xia favors indirect enhancement of objects over direct bodily empowerment to reduce the risk of his desires and will being distorted 5 6.

  • Enhances talisman brushes, cinnabar ink, and spirit elixir 6 7.
  • Uses the improved elixir to support repeated spell practice and talisman production; it does not turn him into a naturally gifted cultivator 7.
  • Resurrects a dead Smith Family expert with the shards, then controls the body through his mask to create a false witness account after the plane crash 19.

Danger Sense and Foreknowledge

Li Xia possesses an innate sensitivity to danger that predates his cultivation. He suspects—but does not establish—that living two lives strengthened his soul 18.

  • Detects that the Smith Family’s apparently restrained escorts are more dangerous than Li Zhun 18.
  • Uses remembered Inuyasha events to pursue resources, recognize threats, and anticipate Inuyasha’s new-moon vulnerability 2 7 23.
  • Conceals the source of his knowledge by asking leading questions and using plausible explanations 8 37 42.
  • Cannot rely on exact timing: the Demon Slayers’ departure for the castle occurs earlier than he expected 41.

Demon Art and Technical Knowledge

Li Xia seeks supernatural inheritances while also applying knowledge from the modern world 22 35.

  • Records Enju’s explanation of Demon Art and studies Clay Body construction and soul summoning 35.
  • Improves village waterwheels, teaches ox-plowing, introduces saddles, stirrups, and horseshoes, and establishes experimental crop plots 22.
  • Collects cultivation manuals from the Spiderhead temple, preserving originals, handwritten copies, and photographs 28.
  • Arranges archery training for Kagome and helps assess wounded Demon Slayers alongside Miroku 45 47.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Great Katsura Tree Mask card — Houses and activates his contracted shikigami 16.
  • Fire-Tipped Spear — Totosai’s reforging of the Thunderstrike Blade, given a fire attribute through flame meteoric iron. Li Xia later offers a purified shard to request further enhancement from the Medicine Elder; completion of that enhancement is not shown 39 49.
  • Shikon Jewel Shards — Carries seven during his dealings with Kagome; later entrusts his shards to her before leaving the Demon Slayer Village 20 42.
  • Enhanced talisman brush and cinnabar ink — Shard-strengthened materials used to improve talisman quality 6 14.
  • Spirit elixir — A family preparation made with spiritual spring water and herbs, greatly strengthened by the shards 6.
  • Spirit Shrine and ritual altar — Contracts the mask using a shrine carved from Soul-Nourishing Wood and an altar left by the clan elders 16.
  • Urasue’s Soul-Summoning Tree branch and Sickle — Collected after Urasue’s death; he takes the sickle because he wants a dependable weapon for self-defense 34.
  • Modern supplies — Carries medicine and camping equipment, and encourages Kagome to bring supplies for the group 19 41.

Relationships

  • Li Zhun — Father. Encourages a safe business career but advocates for Li Xia’s rewards. Li Xia resents his inherited aptitude while remaining grateful for his second life and upbringing 1 9.
  • Li Qin and Li Yang — Older sister and older brother. Their mainland studies are intended to build useful connections for the family 1.
  • Fourth Uncle — Oversees the family’s Tokyo holdings and assists with supplies and transactions. His inability to stop cultivator visitors highlights the family’s hierarchy 5 15 17.
  • Three Clan Elders — Reward his information and teach core techniques. Their unexpected capture of Mayu troubles him; later, his inability to reach an elder deepens his suspicion that family factions have abandoned him 12 13 18.
  • Kagome Higurashi — Classmate and traveling companion. Her family’s gratitude helps him reach the Sengoku era. He supports her training and considers her as a possible future partner, but no established romance is documented 20 21 30 47.
  • Inuyasha — Trusted companion. Li Xia’s acceptance of half-demons, rescues, and practical advice win his confidence; Inuyasha lends him Tessaiga and retrieves the Thunderstrike Blade for him 22 25 34 37.
  • Kikyo — Rescues her from a cliff and tries to redirect her resentment toward the mastermind behind her death. He is attracted to her, but his attempts to reach her emotionally receive no response 35 36.
  • Enju — Teacher of Urasue’s Demon Art legacy. Li Xia promises to visit her after his studies 35 36.
  • Miroku — Companion who initially finds Li Xia difficult to read, then recognizes the sincerity of his goodwill 40.
  • Sango and Kirara — Join the group after the Demon Slayer Village disaster. Li Xia warns Sango that Naraku may exploit Kohaku, while Kirara assists with travel and training 47.
  • Myōga — Guide and intermediary. Introduces him to the Demon Slayer Village’s location, vouches for him to Totosai, and leads him to the Medicine Elder 37 39 47.
  • Smith Family — Pursuers who attempt to bring him to North America under an academic-exchange pretext. He escapes by staging a fatal plane crash and his own death 17 18 19.
