SageMon — Ultimate-stage form 83 86 His preferred everyday form. Despite its stage, his accumulated knowledge gives it strength far beyond ordinary Ultimates.
Ancient SageMon — true form 86 112 One of the Digital World’s first Ultimates. His Ancient and Mythological Data developed naturally within his core over the ages; he appears in this form at a Witchelny council meeting.

Background / History

Ancient Sage of Witchelny

SageMon has existed since the Digital World’s birth and belongs to the Ten Warriors. His long life produced Ancient and Mythological Data unique to his own core, rather than data borrowed from other Digimon 24 29 86.

Long before the main events, he advocated raising the Mount Broken Range into the sky as a practical demonstration of magical mastery. His proposal was carried out, making both the mountain range and the magical city built along it airborne 211.

Mentoring Mo Yan

Mo Yan’s talent first attracted SageMon’s attention. After getting to know him, SageMon accepted him as a student and devoted himself to his development. Their bond became familial, while also serving SageMon’s hope of nurturing a companion capable of pursuing further evolution alongside him 29.

In Witchelny, SageMon guided Mo Yan’s evolution from KendoGarurumon into Wizardmon. He then recommended separating the Wizardmon form into an independent DigiCore so that KendoGarurumon’s potential would not be restricted to a single evolution line 5.

SageMon also helped establish Mo Yan’s Angel DigiCore, taking him to the Realm of the Gods for the project. He later supplied rare mythological and ancient data needed for Mo Yan’s plan to advance all Twelve DigiCores 9 29.

DigiCore Experiments and the New Digimon Development Project

After Witchmon ruined an important experiment, SageMon persuaded her to undergo DigiCore splitting using research submitted by Mo Yan. He had her inscribe dark data into the separated core and guided her original core into producing a seed of light. Sending her to Mo Yan then helped draw out the Two Worlds’ United Will 53.

Mo Yan criticized the pain and risks involved. SageMon maintained that the experiment both disciplined Witchmon and expanded her potential through mutually sustaining light and darkness. Lucemon subsequently supplied Angel and Fallen Angel data, enabling her divided cores to evolve into Angewomon and LadyDevimon 53 80.

SageMon became chief planner and mentor of the New Digimon Development Project, with powerful Digimon providing investment and supervision and Mo Yan acting as its executor. He also passed TyrantKabuterimon’s initial BloomLordmon data to Mo Yan and proposed using a human partner to help complete its unusual evolution 53 54.

Caesar and Travel Beyond the Digital World

While searching other Digital Worlds for data suitable for Mo Yan, SageMon discovered Caesar, a Leomon reincarnated from another world. A protective spacetime power had concealed Caesar’s data, and SageMon’s allies identified him as a possible route into the Infinite Dimensions 54.

SageMon reshaped Caesar’s unstable spacetime data into the vessel Caesar called Traverse, then studied how its power increased through journeys to other worlds. He traced its source to a tiny remnant of an ancient, immensely powerful being and used that discovery to win support from Yggdrasill and others 120.

He eventually devised a way to open another route at the moment Caesar traveled. SageMon persuaded Mo Yan to send a DigiCore through it by explaining that the opportunity could provide the spacetime data needed for Chicchimon’s evolution 120.

Testing Mo Yan and the Holy Digimon’s Plans

At the Broken Royal Magic Academy, SageMon accepted Mo Yan’s challenge to test his growing strength. He defeated Mo Yan’s newly formed Mage Knightmon, although the final exchange cracked the Book of the Void. SageMon praised the form’s potential while criticizing Mo Yan’s limited close-combat technique 83 84 85 86.

Following another brawl in the Council Hall, SageMon escorted Mo Yan to the Four Holy Beasts’ domain for the Holy Digimon’s meeting. There, he praised the Directional Receiver design and learned that Lucemon had developed it with the Three Great Angels 89 90.

SageMon suspected that the Eight Virtues project was intended to stabilize Lucemon by replacing the dark, insane side infected by a human virus. The Three Great Angels had already requested his DigiCore-splitting records 87.

Agreement with Lucemon

SageMon later supplied Ophanimon with prepared research on converting light and darkness after she confirmed Lucemon’s acceptance of his proposal. He announced that he would visit Holy Heaven after completing his preparations 210.

When Grand Mage Beast questioned the danger of the agreement, SageMon argued that independence required action and greater strength, not withdrawal from factional conflict. He entrusted Grand Mage Beast with nine Strange Devices for the other Ancient Warriors and instructed him to bring their return gifts to the Realm of the Gods 211.

Personality

SageMon combines patient mentorship with teasing, manipulation, and a strong appetite for experimentation. His exchanges with Mo Yan frequently become insults or physical “lessons,” but the narrative treats their lack of formality as a sign of familial closeness. He is noticeably gentler toward Grand Mage Beast, whom he chooses to recognize as an individual rather than merely Mo Yan’s split consciousness 81 83 211.

He is willing to expose students to painful or dangerous experiments when he believes the results justify the risk. Witchmon’s DigiCore splitting and Mo Yan’s proposed otherworld journey both reveal his habit of preparing an experiment before fully persuading its participant 53 120.

His pursuit of power is tied to Digimon independence. He remembers the years when Digimon hid from human threats and believes those experiences must not be forgotten. However, he rejects Mo Yan’s assumption that this necessarily means attacking the Human Worlds 81 211.

SageMon favors self-directed development over dependence on human spiritual power. Although he researched the light of human hearts, he concluded that relying on outside power could compromise a Digimon’s foundations or original self. He nevertheless acknowledges that arduous training and human spiritual power each have strengths and weaknesses 51 120.

Abilities & Skills

Knowledge Is Power

SageMon can convert learned knowledge into equivalent power and imbue objects bearing written words with it. His own encyclopedia is the most suitable vessel 84.

  • Each written word in the Book of the Void can release the power it represents 84.
  • SageMon balances these powers so that they do not cancel one another out 84.
  • During his duel with Mo Yan, the resulting surge dismantled the Thunder Domain covering half the training ground 84.

Advanced Programming Language Magic

His magical lineage emphasizes understanding and manipulating data to create suitable spells, rather than mechanically reproducing instructions. Mo Yan later uses the same teaching method with Impmon 43.

  • Defense: Dimensional Space Barrier and Super Magic Immunity 83.
  • Weapon enhancement: Planetary Weight, Weight Manipulation, and Super Toughness 83.
  • Mobility and perception: Light and Agile, Guiding Light, Super Intuition, and Super Swift 83 85.
  • Offense: Super Air Cannon and Super Meteor Shower; he can also amplify and reflect an incoming solar beam 84 85.
  • Magic Nullification: Counters spells by identifying their data fluctuations. It could not fully erase Mo Yan’s Diamond Forest because the attack also incorporated Chivalry power 85.

Melee Combat and Weapon Mastery

Despite not being renowned primarily as a combatant, SageMon has attained sage-level knowledge of fighting techniques and weapon use. He generally prefers melee combat for its physical excitement, using the book he knows best as his weapon 82 84.

  • Blocks Mage Knightmon’s blade with the Book of the Void 85.
  • Combines speed enhancement with punches powerful enough to drive Mo Yan into the ground 85.
  • Can leave foreign data in an opponent’s injuries, making even bruises difficult to remove immediately 89.

Pandora’s Dialogue and Temporal Manifestations

SageMon’s ultimate technique draws attacks from past spacetime. Against Mage Knightmon, Pandora’s Dialogue released ten strengthened Mage Wave Slashes to counter Mo Yan’s final attack and earth dragons 85 86.

  • Ancient SageMon can also pull another version of himself from a different point in time 112.
  • The SageMon accompanying Mo Yan to the Four Holy Beasts’ domain is such a temporal version, while the present-time Ancient SageMon remains in Witchelny 112.
  • That accompanying version cannot evolve into his higher Ultimate form, a limitation Mo Yan correctly identifies 116.

Spatial and Otherworld Research

SageMon uses spatial magic for transportation, concealment, and experimental work 89 120.

  • Opens a portal into the Four Holy Beasts’ Digital Space 89.
  • Separates his and Mo Yan’s location from Caesar’s space to avoid detection 120.
  • Extracts spacetime data from Caesar for research and for Chicchimon’s core data 120.
  • Develops a method of opening an otherworld route during Caesar’s traversal 120.
  • Later teleports Baalmon from Witchelny to Devimon’s location on Mount Infinity 236.

Equipment / Items

  • Book of the Void — SageMon’s handwritten encyclopedia, also called the Book of Void Records and Book of Akashic Records. It serves as his dwelling, principal weapon, and ideal vessel for Knowledge Is Power 51 84.
    • Withstands Mo Yan’s attacks but develops cracks during their battles; SageMon repairs its cover by reconstructing its data 85 89.
    • Stores the equipment prepared for the otherworld-travel experiment 120.
    • Contains information Mo Yan later consults to identify Gulfmon as an enforcer of Apocalymon 141.
  • Nine Strange Devices — Devices marked with fire, water, wind, ice, thunder, earth, wood, light, and darkness. SageMon gives them to Grand Mage Beast for delivery to the other nine Ancient Warriors 211.

Relationships

  • Mo Yan — Student and family-like companion. SageMon nurtures his talent, supplies rare data, and promotes his research, while their mutual affection often takes the form of mockery and sparring 5 29 81 86.
  • Witchmon / Angewomon / LadyDevimon — His favorite student and a participant in his DigiCore-splitting experiments. He seeks to develop her potential despite her disruptive pranks 53 80.
  • Grand Mage Beast — Mo Yan’s split consciousness, whom SageMon treats as a separate student. He entrusts him with contacting the remaining Ancient Warriors 211.
  • MedievalDukemon — Witchelny’s guardian and SageMon’s senior. MedievalDukemon leads negotiations with exceptionally powerful beings, with SageMon assisting 82.
  • Qinglongmon — Longstanding collaborator in plans surrounding Mo Yan’s arrival, innate power, and development 24 81.
  • Lucemon — Research counterpart and negotiating partner. Their cooperation includes DigiCore splitting, light–darkness conversion, and SageMon’s later proposal 80 87 210.
  • Caesar — Reincarnated Leomon whose spacetime power SageMon secretly studies and modifies to investigate otherworld travel 54 120.
  • TyrantKabuterimon — Contributor to the New Digimon Development Project who entrusts SageMon with BloomLordmon’s initial data 53 54.
  • Baalmon — A later recipient of SageMon’s guidance. SageMon explains that his Demon Lord Power has been completely severed from Beelzemon, then sends him to join Mo Yan’s plan 236.
