Mo Yan met Qinglongmon, who recruited him to guide and test the DigiDestined during the Digital World's coming rebirth. Qinglongmon awakened Mo Yan's power and helped him evolve into a powerful KendoGarurumon, then ordered him to prepare to enter the real world.
In cyberspace, Mo Yan defeated Allomon and used the battle to open a passage to the human world. Before entering it, he transferred into his newly created Light Angemon form and absorbed Allomon’s data.
Mo Yan encountered Rika Makino and Renamon in the Digital Field and fought them, overpowering Renamon despite Rika’s card support. As Mo Yan approached Rika after the battle, two new attacks suddenly flew toward him.
Mo Yan fought Renamon while challenging Rika Makino, Takato, and Li Jianliang to consider why Digimon battled and evolved. When Takato and Li Jianliang joined Renamon’s attack, they wounded Mo Yan, who rose higher and summoned a DigiCore.
Mo Yan transformed into Flame Angemon and tested Takato, Rika Makino, and Li Jianliang in battle, defeating their Digimon before healing them. He recognized their teamwork and agreed to talk, leaving with them as the Digital Field faded.
Mo Yan captured Impmon and declared himself his mentor, transforming into Wizardmon to persuade him to study magic and evolve through training rather than slaughter. After Mo Yan freed Impmon from his bonds and comforted him about his former Tamers, Impmon tried to leave but was frozen in place just as Takato Matsuki and the others arrived.
Mo Yan introduced himself to Takato Matsuki, Rika Makino, and Li Jianliang, then explained the Digital World, Digimon, and why Digimon were appearing in the real world. He left the children wondering whether being chosen was connected to the damaged barrier between the worlds.
Mo Yan explained how human research helped shape Digimon and why the Digital World had chosen the children and their partners to respond to future disasters. He pressed Rika to face her true feelings, leaving her vulnerable and Renamon wary of him.
Mo Yan explained why the children might need to protect the human world and strengthened their bonds with their Digimon, drawing on their pure spiritual power to perfect his Angel Form. The chapter ended with Mo Yan beginning that breakthrough and SageMon threatening him with interdimensional travel research.
Mo Yan used the Magic Circle’s power to form two incomplete Holy Rings, gaining qualifications to advance as an angel while still needing to inscribe sacred passages to develop their power. As the children and their Digimon woke, they left for home, and Mo Yan put Guilmon and Impmon to sleep with a spell.
Mo Yan continued training Impmon and explained why strength and mental resilience were needed before studying magic. When Takato Matsuki asked to revert Growlmon to Guilmon, Mo Yan accepted the choice and summoned Coredramon to fight Growlmon, leaving the dragons poised to battle.
Mo Yan and Growlmon began a dragon duel under the effects of the Proof of the Dragon, a replica that would reward the victor and cause the loser to devolve. Mo Yan gained the advantage in their fight, but Takato gave Growlmon wings, leaving the aerial battle underway.
Mo Yan used a phantom of his Angel Form to reassure Takato Matsuki while his Coredramon battled Growlmon, hoping to awaken his draconic instincts and obtain data. Growlmon lost the Dragon Battle, and the Proof of the Dragon enveloped both combatants in light.
Mo Yan defeated Growlmon, absorbed part of his data, and gained further insight into the dangers surrounding Megidramon. After Guilmon reunited with Takato Matsuki, Mo Yan explained that Digimon magic was a form of data manipulation and left with Impmon.
Mo Yan began teaching Impmon to control the magic power and data within him as preparation for advanced magical study. Impmon managed to enlarge his Dark Night Flame, but struggled to shape it and had to hold it steady as he grew tired.
Mo Yan pushed Impmon through repeated, risky exercises in controlling the Dark Night Flame, while Impmon grew frustrated and failed to extinguish it safely. When Takato Matsuki and Guilmon returned, Impmon rampaged, and Takato used a SnowAgumon card to freeze him.
Mo Yan explained that Impmon had lost control during training, then agreed to train Guilmon by releasing a Dracomon from his DigiCore. After Takato left, Mo Yan began Guilmon and Dracomon’s first jungle training exercise.
Mo Yan trained Guilmon and Dracomon to hunt in the Wild Jungle while guiding Impmon through increasingly difficult magical exercises. Impmon mastered dispersing magic but struggled with compression, then steadied himself and prepared to try again.
Impmon tried to compress his Dark Night Flame but reached a bottleneck, and his reckless attempt triggered an evolution that Mo Yan interrupted. After Impmon accused him of sabotaging his progress, Mo Yan explained that he could achieve a better evolution, leaving Impmon to resume his training in silence.
Mo Yan scanned Guilmon after his training session, then used his accumulated data to create a crystal sphere through elemental fusion. He wondered what data and physical changes he still needed to evolve into his desired form.
Mo Yan completed a powerful crystal ball made from the four elements and spells, while his angelic apparition guided Impmon through questions about evolution and purpose. Mo Yan left for the Network Management Bureau, and the apparition wondered whether Mo Yan’s research and Impmon’s Demon Lord data would lead them down dangerous paths.
Mo Yan infiltrated the Twin Towers and prepared a magic setup to use Yamaki’s extermination plan to forge a blade capable of breaking through to Ultimate. After returning to the park in Knightmon form, he reunited with Takato Matsuki, Guilmon, and Impmon.
Mo Yan put Impmon and Guilmon through a brutal morning run using his electric whip. Impmon experimented with magic-power body stimulation, and the chapter ended with Mo Yan reaching for the exhausted Impmon while Guilmon watched curiously.
Mo Yan helped Impmon recover and continued training him and Guilmon at a shooting range. Watching Impmon’s fighting spirit awaken purple magic power again, Mo Yan wondered about the source of his demon lord power and resolved to focus on his own evolution while relying on his allies if necessary.
Mo Yan used the Dark Digicore to copy and refine Impmon’s and Guilmon’s data while Impmon trained, then refused the Gluttony Demon Lord’s invitation to join the Dark Area. After accepting Demon Lord-type data as a gift, Mo Yan continued training the two Digimon and deepened his understanding of darkness.
