With her keen Digimon senses, Mo Si heard footsteps approaching from afar.
Judging by their rhythm, whoever it was was dancing as he walked.
As he drew closer, she saw a young Black man wearing sunglasses, permed curls, and bell-bottoms, with a boombox on his shoulder.
The young man noticed Mo Si too. Her stunning curves and sizzling outfit perked him right up. He hurried over and asked eagerly, "Hey, lady, want to go on a date?"
Mo Si didn't answer. She simply smiled and asked him instead, "What year is it?"
Her alluring smile held his attention for a moment, but her question left him startled again. "You don't even know that?"
Mo Si smiled. "When it comes to dating, I have three rules. First, I don't date anyone who doesn't know what year it is. It means he has no common sense."
The young man snapped to attention, as though opportunity itself were beckoning to him, and immediately answered, "It's 1976."
The bell-bottoms had already given Mo Si a pretty good idea. Hearing that it was 1976 confirmed that this was the episode where Jade traveled through time with the Rabbit Talisman, part of the first arc of Jackie Chan Adventures-the talisman arc.
So she continued, "Thanks. Bye."
The young man said, "Wait, didn't you say..."
Mo Si waved him off, cutting him short. "I don't want to date men."
Two streams of tears ran down his face. "How could you toy with my innocent heart... boohoo..."
What a nutjob.
Unmoved, Mo Si turned away indifferently and walked straight off.
This was more than twenty years before the main storyline. Although the Twelve Talismans existed in this timeline too, she didn't know their exact locations, especially that of the Tiger Talisman.
Her memories of the original story were a little hazy, but she still remembered the Tiger Talisman appearing inside a fruit pie at a pie-eating contest. Who knew where it had been before that?
So the first thing Mo Si needed to do wasn't find the talismans, but reach the period of the main storyline.
It was simple enough: she just needed to hitch a ride with Jade.
But instead of going straight to the school to find Jade, she headed to Chinatown in San Francisco.
She would find Uncle's Antique Shop in Chinatown and wait for Jade to come to her.
In this era, Uncle didn't sell antiques yet. He sold cassette tapes.
Mo Si pushed open the door to Uncle's shop and saw Uncle, whose hair was still black.
At this point in time, Uncle only knew kung fu, not magic.
"Welcome..." Seeing a customer, Uncle eagerly came forward.
What an unusual outfit this girl has!
Aren't bell-bottoms in fashion right now? Has the trend changed to this? Could she be a big Hollywood star?
Her mask even covers her eyes. How does she see where she's going?
With those thoughts running through his head, Uncle asked, "Miss, what sort of tapes are you looking for?"
"This would be a great place to sell antiques," Mo Si said.
Uncle froze.
Is she here to buy the shop, rather than tapes?
Well... that's not out of the question. But it'll cost extra.
"...Sorry, I'll come back later." Mo Si suddenly returned to her original form, then turned and hurried out.
Angewomon asked curiously, "That was quick. Where are we going now?"
She didn't often ask such questions, usually just watching quietly through their shared vision. But Mo Si's abrupt change of course had been a little too sudden. She had only just started talking to Uncle, so why had she left?
Mo Si walked into a small alley and said quietly, "The Righteous Energy and Dark Energy in this world balance each other. Just now, I faintly sensed the presence of Righteous Energy."
"Righteous Energy?"
"We share the same senses. You should be able to feel it too." Mo Si closed her eyes and focused on sensing it.
A moment later, Angewomon said, "I can feel it. It's everywhere, like gravity."
Righteous Energy and Dark Energy had no consciousness of their own, yet they influenced everything in the world, like its underlying code.
That's Angewomon for you. She sensed so much with hardly any effort!
Angewomon truly had a gift for cultivation.
It had been Angewomon who worked out the Take Over Magic that allowed them to take over evolved forms.
Mo Si knew that she wasn't as good as Angewomon at understanding magic, but she wasn't upset. Everyone had their strengths and weaknesses, after all. They were two souls in one body, one handling external affairs and the other internal matters. It was a perfect fit.
Returning to the subject, she continued, "Our arrival strengthened Righteous Energy, but the balance will strengthen Dark Energy too, creating a vacancy..."
An angel like her appearing in this world was equivalent to adding a powerful general to the forces of Righteous Energy. Dark Energy would respond by creating a position for an evil power.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the Earth.
There was a man in a gloomy old castle.
White hair, mismatched eyes, a slender waist, and black robes.
He was the most powerful Dark Energy sorcerer in the world today-Daolon Wong!
Suddenly, he sensed Dark Energy growing through some unseen force and muttered, "A vacancy has opened up in Dark Energy."
But that was strange. Why would a vacancy appear?
No demons seemed to have died recently, so where had this vacancy come from?
No, this vacancy hadn't been caused by a demon's absence. It had been created by an increase in Dark Energy. In other words, a powerful figure had first appeared on the side of Righteous Energy, triggering the growth of Dark Energy.
Everything's backwards!
In the past, the Dark Energy side had always stirred up trouble first, and the Righteous Energy side had retaliated.
Why had Righteous Energy made the first move this time?
Was this era's representative of Righteous Energy a radical?
Daolon Wong couldn't figure it out, but he knew one thing. "As long as I claim this position, my magical power will grow even further. Hahahaha! The age of Daolon Wong has arrived!"
Only individual ability combined with the tide of the times could forge great achievements.
Daolon Wong didn't lack ability. All he lacked was an opportunity.
Now, that opportunity had arrived!
But before he could celebrate for long, he sensed that the position in Dark Energy had been filled.
Fuck!
I only hesitated for a tiny moment!
Someone actually reacted faster than I did?
Daolon Wong was furious, stamping his feet in rage. "Who was it?! Who claimed the position in Dark Energy? Could there be a Dark Energy sorcerer more powerful than me in this world?"
Impossible!
Absolutely impossible!
Unless an Ancient Demon has awakened, how could this age of technology produce a better Dark Energy sorcerer than me?
In a corner across from Uncle's shop in San Francisco's Chinatown.
Having taken over the Myotismon Soul, Mo Si stood in the shadows. Just as she had sensed Righteous Energy earlier, she now sensed the presence of Dark Energy.
Righteous Energy and Dark Energy were both opposing forces and a unified whole.
They were two sides of the same coin. Righteous Energy was everywhere, and so was Dark Energy.
Her appearance had strengthened Righteous Energy while creating a vacancy in Dark Energy.
A demon would fill that vacancy. So what should she do?
To avoid unforeseen trouble, Mo Si had claimed the vacancy in Dark Energy herself!
"I am both Righteous Energy and Dark Energy. When I'm on the side of Righteous Energy, I'm one of its people. When I'm on the side of Dark Energy, I'm one of its people."
It was that flexible, just like the meaning of the Free Type.
The most famous Free Type Digimon in the Digital World was undoubtedly Imperialdramon. According to its lore, it could become either a savior or a god of destruction. That was how the Free Type worked: it could change into any of the conventional types-Vaccine Type, Data Type, or Virus Type-at any time.
Truly, she could become a saint through righteousness or a demon through evil!
