"So you were trying to make breakfast yourself?"
After taking care of the injury on Makima's hand, he turned to the mess in the kitchen.
This was clearly Makima's first attempt at anything like this. She had plunged straight in without knowing how to do it.
"Yes, but it was harder than I imagined."
Makima nodded.
"Of course it was hard when you've never learned. Let me show you. Watch from the side, and you'll understand."
Asaba Kotone cleaned up the kitchen, then began demonstrating for Makima.
He could tell she had wanted to make a fruit and vegetable salad. It went without saying that she had read about it in a book again, but the book certainly hadn't explained how to make one.
Otherwise, Makima wouldn't have thrown the fruits and vegetables straight into a pot and burned them. If he had woken up any later, she might even have started a small fire.
"You wanted to make a fruit and vegetable salad, right? Luckily, there are plenty of ingredients in the fridge."
Asaba Kotone prepared several kinds of fruits and vegetables: corn, oranges, grapes, cherry tomatoes, and lettuce, along with salad dressing and lemon juice.
He put the corn on to cook first, then washed the remaining ingredients.
He removed the stems from the washed grapes, peeled the oranges and separated them into segments, and cut each cherry tomato in half.
As he cut the cherry tomatoes, Asaba Kotone said, "Take your time when you cut things later. Safety first. As for the lettuce, just tear it by hand. There's no need for a knife."
He deliberately cut very slowly with the kitchen knife to demonstrate.
