But teleporting through the Kamui Dimension required a "coordinate." With a "coordinate" left on Denji, he could teleport to Denji's side at any time, wherever he was.
The farther he teleported, the more ocular power and physical energy he would expend. He still didn't know exactly how much it would cost.
Of course, spatial teleportation didn't necessarily require a "coordinate." He could also teleport blind, but that wouldn't let him pinpoint a specific person or location. For instance, he could teleport blind to the United States as long as he knew its general direction.
"Don't look like that. It's not like I'm never coming back."
Asaba Kotone patted Denji's head. "Anyway, study hard at school. I'm off."
With that, he parted ways with Denji for the time being.
[Denji's affection +5%] [Denji's affection progress has reached 80%. Achievement reward obtained: Constitution +1]
Just before he left, Denji's affection had risen again. It wasn't far from a hundred percent now.
Walking down the street, Asaba Kotone stopped at a convenience store and bought a newspaper.
In it, he found the news he wanted to see.
The news that old Hamano and the others had turned into zombies yesterday had already broken. Presumably, some Yakuza members had gone looking for their boss and discovered the zombified corpses. The police had cleared away all the bodies in the early hours of that morning.
The Zombie Devil's whereabouts were unknown, while the zombified people appeared to have been finished off by someone. The police concluded that a Devil Hunter was probably responsible.
They hadn't pursued the investigation any further, since the zombified people were Yakuza members, and it was perfectly legal for Devil Hunters to kill zombies.
The incident had thus come to an inconclusive end. At most, the police would verbally request that the Civilian Devil Hunter Guild issue a bounty on the Zombie Devil. The Yakuza members could only direct their anger at the Zombie Devil, too.
No one knew that Asaba Kotone had actually already killed the Zombie Devil.
After reading the article, Asaba Kotone tossed the newspaper into a nearby trash can.
Now he needed to start thinking about how to approach Kobeni Higashiyama. She was the third entry he had unlocked in the catalog, and he had already learned her basic information.
She attended Chiba Rissei High School in Chiba Prefecture, so his best option was to enroll there himself.
But high school was no longer part of compulsory education, and the school year wasn't just starting, either. He would have to do what Denji had done in the original story.
In Part Two of the original manga, Denji had been able to attend high school directly, presumably through Kishibe's connections. Given Kishibe's standing in Tokyo Public Safety and Japanese society as a whole, getting Denji straight into a high school would surely have been effortless.
Asaba Kotone was in a better position than Denji had been in the original story. At the very least, passing a high school entrance exam wouldn't be a problem. He had been a high school student before transmigrating, so he had a sufficient academic foundation.
Although Japan's high school entrance exams would certainly cover different material, his Mangekyō Sharingan gave him a learning ability far beyond that of ordinary people.
Once he passed the entrance exam, spending some money and pulling a few strings should take care of the rest.
Money was a minor issue, too. As for connections, Asaba Kotone planned to make a name for himself at the local Civilian Devil Hunter Guild after arriving in Chiba Prefecture.
Once he had enough of a reputation, connections would naturally be a minor issue as well.
With that in mind, Asaba Kotone decided to set off for Chiba Prefecture right away.
Incidentally, Chiba Prefecture wasn't some little county town. That was simply how places were named in Japan; it was actually a big city.
Upon reaching the subway station, Asaba Kotone boarded a train bound for Chiba Prefecture.
He didn't have a "coordinate" in Chiba Prefecture, so he couldn't teleport there directly through the Kamui Dimension.
As everyone knew, Japanese subways were packed shoulder to shoulder. Asaba Kotone had no choice but to squeeze aboard with Pochita in his arms.
Fortunately, Chiba Prefecture was right "next door" to Tokyo and wasn't very far away. Before long, he reached his stop.
Once he arrived in Chiba Prefecture, his first task was to find the local Civilian Devil Hunter Guild.
After leaving the station, Asaba Kotone went to hail a taxi, intending to have it take him straight to the Civilian Devil Hunter Guild.
Just then, however, he suddenly heard screams and cries for help up ahead. A devil seemed to have appeared right in the street, throwing everyone into chaos.
Just when Asaba Kotone needed to build his reputation, a devil had "delivered itself to his doorstep." Taking Pochita with him, he ran straight toward the commotion.
Soon, a Crab Devil appeared before him.
The Crab Devil was enormous compared to an ordinary crab, standing twice as tall as a person. Four huge eyes sat on its head, and its eight legs were exceptionally sharp. Its claws were terrifyingly large, too. With a casual snap, it easily snipped a car on the street in half. Fortunately, no one was inside.
Its shell looked extremely hard and was covered in things resembling intestines, along with all kinds of spikes.
The police and Private Devil Hunters were on their way. Asaba Kotone was the only Devil Hunter nearby.
Asaba Kotone immediately grabbed Pochita, wielding Pochita as a Chainsaw Weapon just as he always did.
As he used his right eye's Kamui to draw himself into the Kamui Dimension, his left eye opened another entrance to it above the Crab Devil's head.
The next instant, he appeared from the spatial opening above the Crab Devil as though he had teleported. Before it could react, the chainsaw in his hands split its head open.
He then cleaved the Crab Devil's entire body in two. Its seemingly tough shell proved utterly fragile before Pochita's chainsaw.
The Crab Devil wasn't particularly powerful to begin with. After all, how afraid were people of crabs? Its size allowed it to slaughter ordinary humans at will, but against a slightly stronger Devil Hunter, it could only be killed.
"This ability really is handy..."
Asaba Kotone stared at the Crab Devil's corpse and muttered to himself.
What he had just used was spatial teleportation, the same ability Obito relied on in Naruto to travel freely throughout the shinobi world. But Obito normally only had Kamui in his right eye, whereas Asaba Kotone had it in both, which made a difference.
Anywhere within his field of vision, he could use his right eye's Kamui to draw himself in while simultaneously using his left eye's Kamui to open a distant spatial entrance.
That allowed him to skip the process of entering the Kamui Dimension. In other words, the two "doors" opened by his right and left eyes' Kamui were connected directly, without needing the Kamui Dimension as a "transfer station."
With Kamui in only one eye, however, he would first have to draw himself into the Kamui Dimension, then use that transfer station to open a spatial exit elsewhere and teleport through it. That was slower than using Kamui with both eyes.
As for the cost, such a short distance hadn't drained him much.
Just as Asaba Kotone was about to draw the Crab Devil's corpse into the Kamui Dimension, the other Private Devil Hunters arrived.
And the person who appeared before him was none other than... Aki Hayakawa?
