"As expected of Lord El-Melloi II. Your knowledge truly lives up to the title of Lord."
Roland clapped lightly, then continued with a smile.
"Then, as a reward, let me ask you another question. Which Holy Grail from history do you think this one is?"
In Christian history, two Holy Grails had appeared. One, naturally, was the vessel that had held the Savior's blood, the embodiment of all miracles. The other was its opposite: the Negative Cup, or Cup of Wealth, held by the Whore of Babylon, who had once appeared alongside the Beast.
Though they looked the same, what filled the Cup of Wealth was not holy blood capable of bringing forth miracles, but filth formed from humanity's malice.
Hearing such a pointed question, and considering Roland's identity, the answer was already self-evident.
Waver froze for a moment, then went rigid on the spot, his face pale as large beads of cold sweat broke out across his forehead.
"Doesn't the Holy Church do anything about something like that?"
"They have to establish whether it's genuine first, don't they? Frankly, they're not very reliable in that respect. Once an organization gets big enough, its efficiency inevitably suffers."
