Background / History

Imprisonment and Escape from Mars

Crocodile Ancestor was suppressed by Shakyamuni beneath the Great Thunderclap Temple for more than two thousand years. The Demon-Transforming Stake continuously drained his blood, leaving his vital essence depleted. Before his imprisonment, he had encountered an opportunity connected to immortality 3 8.

As the Five-Colored Altar activated, he attacked the departing bronze coffin and attempted to hold the Taiji Eight Trigrams Diagram in place. The coffin’s backlash injured his hand, spilling demonic blood onto the altar. Buddhist artifacts then enveloped him, and one of the dragon corpses struck him with its tail before the Nine Dragons Pulling a Coffin escaped 1 2.

Afterward, he examined Jiang Zhu’s Divine Crocodile form and recognized his own bloodline, but could not account for the unfamiliar descendant. He suspected that Jiang Zhu was a contingency left by his fellow prisoner, the divine remnant of a Great Accomplishment Sacred Body. Jiang Zhu exploited that suspicion, presenting himself as a divided soul interested in reclaiming a Sacred Body’s Dao Fruit rather than competing for the Immortal Burial Ground 3.

Dominating Earth

Jiang Zhu’s hints about immortality persuaded Crocodile Ancestor to travel to Earth. He stored his descendants in his Minor World, crossed the starry reaches, and arrived at Mount Tai. There, he forced Eastern and Western cultivators to submit and took the altar inscribed with the Heavenly Book, which contained a map fragment leading toward Kunlun’s Ninety-Nine Dragon Mountains 4.

He ordered every tradition to surrender its ancient texts and artifacts within three days. To demonstrate the consequences of refusal, he launched a hundred thousand scale-swords into space, destroying monitoring satellites and reducing more than a hundred thousand asteroids to dust 5.

The Starry Sky Ancient Road

Following Jiang Zhu’s information about Laozi and the Ancient Heavenly Court, Crocodile Ancestor entered Hangu Pass. His saintly might destroyed the surrounding ghosts, but the city’s Emperor Formations stopped his attack. Jiang Zhu’s warning persuaded him not to strike again 7.

The pair then traversed the Starry Sky Ancient Road, fighting remnant clans on barren planets. Crocodile Ancestor took their divine source, while Jiang Zhu refined their corpses and bloodlines. Discovering the Kunlun Remnant Clan led him to speculate that either its people had been expelled from Earth or Kunlun Mountain had been moved to Earth from Flying Immortal 8.

Their route eventually reached the Big Dipper and emerged in the Undying Mountain. Alarmed by the forbidden zone, Crocodile Ancestor withdrew and returned to Earth with Jiang Zhu. Ancient jade books surrendered by the Ten Thousand Demons Valley then directed his attention to Chisongzi’s Immortal Bone and another possible map fragment 9.

Kunlun Expedition and Death

Crocodile Ancestor collected further map pieces from Mount Lu, Eight Ridges Mountain, the Heavenly Scale Tribe, and the Vatican. He shattered the Vatican’s ocean of faith when its cultivators attempted to suppress him, then ordered a worldwide search for the remaining fragment. Jiang Zhu eventually delivered the eighth piece 11 12 15.

With eight pieces assembled, he led Earth’s Dao-Slaying Kings into Kunlun. He pursued the half-divine medicine He Shou Wu, allowing Jiang Zhu to slip away. At the Immortal-Birthing Land, he found more than ten thousand dragon-headed peaks nourishing a central valley, but could not locate an entrance without the missing ninth map piece 16.

Refusing to retreat, he used cultivators as expendable scouts through the killing formation and killed one who tried to flee. His followers were eventually wiped out. Continuing alone, he found a Divine Mark Purple Gold Pagoda beside a shattered Quasi-Emperor’s remains. Repeated attacks exhausted the nearby blood’s divine energy, nearly killing him in the process; Medicine Kings kept him alive long enough to claim the pagoda 17.

After placing his imprint within the pagoda, he advanced toward the valley he believed held the hope of immortality. The Great Emperor Killing Formation knocked the weapon aside and pulverized both his body and primordial spirit despite his final use of the Heavenly Demon Mystic Art 18 19.

Aftermath

His activation of the formation awakened its deity, which brought Jiang Zhu into the valley. Jiang Zhu later recovered the pagoda and put it into the Demon-Refining Pot to melt into divine markings for his own weapon. Recognizing how many opportunities Crocodile Ancestor had inadvertently delivered to him, Jiang Zhu ironically praised him as a “good man” 19 22.

When Ye Fan learned that Crocodile Ancestor had returned to Earth, he feared for his parents. Jiang Zhu reassured him that the demon had died in Kunlun and that his parents were safe 40 41.

Appearance

Crocodile Ancestor manifests as a nearly two-meter-tall figure whose features are usually obscured by roiling black mist 2.

  • Eyes: Blood-red, compared to crimson moons and lanterns 2 3.
  • Armor and scales: Black-gold or dark-gold armor; black mist beneath his skin can condense into solid scales 12 17.
  • Enlarged hands: Can manifest an enormous black, human-shaped hand with fingers a hundred meters long 8.

Personality

Crocodile Ancestor is driven by the pursuit of immortality and the ambition to become an emperor. He interprets successive discoveries as evidence that heaven favors him. Even after seeing dead Great Sages and a shattered Quasi-Emperor, he refuses to abandon the Immortal Ascension Ground 8 16 17.

He treats weaker cultivators ruthlessly, enforcing obedience through threats and sacrificing followers to test dangerous routes. Against greater powers, however, he can be cautious: he fears the Sacred Body remnant’s potential Dao Fruit, stops attacking Hangu Pass, and retreats from the Undying Mountain 4 5 7 9 17.

His suspicion and greed shape his dealings with Jiang Zhu. He wants access to Jiang Zhu’s knowledge but fears sharing the rewards, while his confidence in his own deductions allows Jiang Zhu to manipulate him 4 7 9 12.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Divine Mark Purple Gold Pagoda — A half-meter-tall Extreme Dao Original Embryo forged entirely from Divine Mark Purple Gold. It lacked engraved Dao laws and had been nourished by immortal energy for over ten thousand years. Crocodile Ancestor claimed and imprinted it, but it failed to protect him from the killing formation 17 19.
  • Terrain-map fragments — Assembled eight pieces guiding entry into Kunlun; lacked the ninth piece needed to complete the route 15 16.
  • Heavenly Book altar — Taken from Mount Tai; its inscription concealed information about the Ninety-Nine Dragon Mountains and a map fragment 4.
  • Medicine Kings — Gathered in Kunlun and used to survive his battle against Quasi-Emperor blood 17.
  • Celestial Snake’s shed skin — Seized during his capture of the Heavenly Scale Tribe 13.
  • Satellite phone — Obtained from the Ten Thousand Demons Valley and used for contact with Jiang Zhu 11 12.

Relationships

  • Jiang Zhu — Temporary traveling companion whom he mistakes for a Sacred Body remnant’s divided soul. Jiang Zhu uses that misunderstanding to obtain transport and protection; Crocodile Ancestor later regards the apparently ordinary Dao Palace cultivator as expendable scouting material 3 4 16.
  • Little Divine Crocodiles — His bloodline descendants and followers. He transports them in his Minor World and assigns them to guard Mount Tai and collect ancient books 3 4 7.
  • Shakyamuni — His jailer and intended target of revenge. Crocodile Ancestor vows to pursue and suppress him after securing Earth’s opportunities 3 4.
  • Great Accomplishment Sacred Body’s divine remnant — Fellow prisoner on Mars whom he deeply fears; that fear underlies his initial treatment of Jiang Zhu as a fellow Daoist 3 4.
  • Earth’s Dao-Slaying Kings and Immortal Platform cultivators — Coerced expedition followers used as scouts in Kunlun’s killing formation 15 17.
  • He Shou Wu — Half-divine medicine he unsuccessfully pursues through Kunlun’s earth veins 16.
