Background / History

Jiang Zhu remembers being struck by two Dayun trucks, with the Demon-Refining Pot hanging from the first. He awakens in Shrouding the Heavens as one of Ye Fan’s classmates, occupying a body that was supposed to die on Mars’s Five-Colored Altar 1.

His name and appearance are identical in both lives. Although he initially interprets his situation as transmigration, he later wonders whether he has instead awakened memories of a previous life or entered the body of a counterpart in another world 1 11.

His parents in this world divorced, remarried, and had other children. Before his graduation, both sent living allowances but otherwise maintained little contact. After cultivating, he visits their homes with life-nourishing liquor; neither recognizes him, and he leaves without revealing his identity 11.

His possible connection to Shennong is initially speculation based on his surname. Jiang Taixu later examines his blood and confirms that he descends from Emperor Hengyu. The imperial bloodline is faint, but closer to Hengyu’s origin than Jiang Taixu’s own 12 27 28.

Appearance

  • Human form: Black hair, a lean and muscular build, and sharply defined facial features. Cultivation repeatedly renews his body and makes him handsome enough that familiar acquaintances fail to recognize him 11.
  • Clothing: Wears an inky tracksuit on Earth and a dark robe after returning to Big Dipper 11 23.
  • Divine Crocodile form: Initially just over a palm long, with ink-black, diamond-hard scales. His enhanced tail develops tightly overlapping armor-like scales 2 3.
  • True Dragon form: Over a hundred feet long, with five claws, a black body, and crystalline horns shining with purple light. His scales reflect multiple colors in sunlight 10.
  • Dragon-featured disguise: Loose black hair, two small dragon horns, an ink-dark scale between his brows, and a slender, well-proportioned figure surrounded by dragon aura 32.
  • Nine-Leaf Sword Grass form: Crystalline emerald-green grass with nine sword-shaped leaves radiating sword intent 19 20.
  • Four Extremes blood: Golden blood contains tiny dragon images; silver blood contains a rooted blade of sword grass 42.

Personality

Jiang Zhu is opportunistic and adept at bluffing. With little power of his own, he exploits the Crocodile Ancestor’s mistaken assumptions and ambitions to obtain transportation, protection, scriptures, and cultivation resources. He often lets the demon draw his own conclusions rather than risk exposing the deception through excessive explanation 3 4 5.

His confidence is tempered by an awareness of danger. He abandons simultaneous cultivation of the Solar and Taiyin scriptures because he lacks the prerequisites, avoids Chisongzi’s lethal sword intent, and seeks an Emperor Weapon-backed faction because his treasures could attract overwhelming enemies 5 9 23.

He retains concern for Earth and his acquaintances. He worries that bringing the Crocodile Ancestor home could endanger his ancestral planet, leaves life-extending gifts for family and classmates, and conceals Pang Bo’s disappearance rather than destroy his parents’ happiness 9 11.

He is quick to retaliate against threats. After holy lands pressure him to surrender an Immortal Medicine seed, he immediately targets their stone workshops for valuable treasures. Against attackers seeking his possessions or inheritance, he readily uses lethal force 33 36 50.

Abilities & Skills

Bloodline Refinement and Origin Transformation

The Demon-Refining Pot extracts and refines nonhuman bloodlines into precious blood and true-spirit origin blood. Jiang Zhu uses these products both to cultivate and to change his body at its source 2 5.

  • His transformations are biological changes, not merely visual disguises; the True Dragon origin technique would identify him as a dragon even to a True Dragon Immortal King 2.
  • Precious blood replenishes his energy, supports cultivation, and can nourish spiritual medicines 5 14 16.
  • Access to additional true-spirit totems is restricted by his cultivation realm 5 7.
  • Gains a Nine Nether Ao true-spirit totem by exchanging a treasure medicine for the Black Emperor’s blood; no completed transformation is documented 31.
  • Must balance the five elements in his Dao Palace. His strong wood and water origins make an adequate earth-aspected resource particularly important 31 33.

True Dragon Treasure Arts

Jiang Zhu obtains the True Dragon Treasure Arts upon completing his dragon transformation and resonating with the imprints of heaven and earth 10.

  • Dragon-Calling Hand: Senses, stirs, and manipulates dragon veins; also serves as a lethal claw-based combat technique 11 13 14.
  • Dragon-vein empowerment: Draws on terrain to strengthen his attacks and power the Glazed Glass Lamp 26 36 37.
  • Partial transformation: Converts his hands and arms into dragon claws or dragon-shaped striking limbs without changing his entire body 26 37.
  • Earth-vein restraints: Binds opponents with dragon qi and earth-vein chains 31 36.
  • Heavy manipulation can exhaust his divine power, requiring precious blood to replenish it 14.

Nine-Leaf Sword Grass and Grass Character Sword Art

After completing the Nine-Leaf Sword Grass Transformation, Jiang Zhu acquires the Grass Character Sword Art through resonance with the ancient sword grass’s final battle 20.

  • Uses supreme sword intent rather than elaborate sword moves 20.
  • Manifests a Sword Domain that shreds a Ji Family elder’s Void Great Hand Seal 50.
  • Condenses silver sword qi strong enough to destroy the elder’s imitation Void Mirror and wound him 50.
  • His Liver Deity can attack independently, slashing the Black Emperor when the dog attempts to steal his Immortal Medicines 29.
  • Despite others comparing his plant form to the Azure Emperor’s origins, Jiang Zhu explicitly recognizes that he is not an Immortal Medicine 48.

Bitter Sea Manifestations

Manifestation Origin and use
True Dragon Battle Immortal Map An embryonic manifestation formed from a witnessed true-dragon battle in the Immortal Ancient Era. Later appears with his golden blood and reinforces a punch against a tribulation spear 11 42.
Sword Grass Splits the Starry Firmament Reproduces the Nine-Leaf Sword Grass’s final battle against Wushang, Pumaking, the Red King, and Anlan. Appears with his silver blood during his Four Extremes breakthrough 20 42.
  • Both manifestations activate while he explores Purple Mountain, helping dispel the Primordial Creatures’ demonic summons 26.

Plant Forms and Medicine Gathering

His fire-vine body can root itself in dragon veins, sense underground vitality, and approach spiritual medicines without immediately frightening them away 14 16.

  • Absorbs sun essence fire, though the most concentrated fire near Chisongzi’s coffin remains dangerous to his immature form 13.
  • Cannot move independently in that fire-vine body and instead extends his vines to manipulate nearby objects 13.
  • Trades replenishing precious blood for medicinal essence, allowing him to harvest resources from living medicines 16 20.
  • Uses his sword-grass form, Immortal Soil, and origin blood to coax the Divine Phoenix Immortal Medicine away from its Dao Platform 29.

Scriptures and Source Appraisal

  • Dao Scripture: His initial cultivation method for the Sea of Bitterness and Dao Palace secret realms. Ye Fan’s Original Manuscript later deepens his understanding and strengthens his foundations 5 14 42.
  • Hengyu Scripture: Receives its cultivation method from Jiang Taixu under a prohibition against sharing it 28.
  • Nine Secrets: Dou: Receives the technique from Jiang Taixu, although he initially declines instruction because he already has powerful offensive arts 27 28.
  • Source Heaven Book: Memorizes its final source-identification section and the Jade Pool Holy Maiden’s life-nourishing art. He does not study its earlier dragon-qi and Source Formation sections 28 37.
  • Stone appraisal: Selects treasure-bearing stones with exceptional accuracy, obtaining divine source, medicinal treasures, and a Kirin Immortal Medicine seed 33.
  • Demon Emperor Scripture: Receives it from the Chaos Green Lotus’s deity and uses it to recast his cultivation foundation 48.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Demon-Refining Pot — Initially lodged in his head and responsible for repairing his fatal injury. Refines bloodlines, stores cultivation resources and medicinal fields, and can slowly melt artifacts 1 5 22.
  • East Emperor Bell / Chaos Bell — Forges a fist-sized bell from his divine patterns in sun essence fire, naming it the East Emperor Bell. Copies the pot’s true-spirit images and inscriptions onto it. A bell identified as his Chaos Bell later undergoes the Four Extremes tribulation alongside him 13 42.
  • Divine Mark Purple Gold Pagoda — Retrieves it after concluding that the Crocodile Ancestor died in Kunlun’s killing formation. Places it in the pot to melt into material for his own weapon; estimates the process will take about a year 22.
  • Glazed Glass Lamp — A flawless Great Saint Weapon left after an ancient Earthling Great Sage’s corpse dissolves. Enables him to cross the Two-Qi Celestial River and kill twelve Dragon Transformation attackers, but can consume all his divine power 22 26 33 36.
  • Demon Emperor’s Sacred Heart — Places it in his Life Spring. It absorbs vital essence and precious blood, then releases sacred blood that strengthens his body 44 45.
  • Wushi Emperor Jade — Guides him toward the Wushi Scripture and activates the teleportation formation used to leave Purple Mountain 28 31.
  • Medicinal collection — Stores over fifty Medicine Kings and numerous precious herbs inside the Demon-Refining Pot. Also obtains Divine Phoenix Immortal Medicine fruit and a Kirin Immortal Medicine seed 22 29 33.

Relationships

  • Ye Fan — Classmate and trusted cultivation companion. Jiang Zhu visits his parents on Earth; Ye Fan later lends him the priceless Dao Scripture Original Manuscript 11 40 42.
  • Pang Bo — Classmate. Jiang Zhu discovers an impostor living with Pang Bo’s family but chooses not to reveal the real Pang Bo’s disappearance 11.
  • Crocodile Ancestor — Temporary protector, transporter, and source of resources whom Jiang Zhu manipulates through a false divine-remnant identity. By Kunlun, the demon regards him as expendable cannon fodder 3 4 5 16.
  • Ginseng Ancestor — Gives Jiang Zhu divine liquid after sensing a kinship resembling that of the Azure Emperor. Jiang Zhu bows in gratitude and leaves precious blood in repayment 14.
  • He Shou Wu — Medicine-gathering partner and companion. Guides him through Kunlun’s earth veins, gathers herbs during his seclusion, and eventually agrees to leave Kunlun with him 16 18 23.
  • White Tiger Divine Medicine / Little White Tiger — Trades sap for precious blood, accompanies him through Kunlun, and helps lure the Divine Phoenix Immortal Medicine 20 22 29.
  • Jiang Taixu — Senior sharing his Hengyu ancestry. Accepts Hundred Herb Liquid and teaches him the Hengyu Scripture’s cultivation method and Nine Secrets: Dou 27 28.
  • Black Emperor — Initially attacks him to steal Immortal Medicines, then becomes an intermittent traveling companion and trading partner. Jiang Zhu distrusts the dog’s teleportation arrays 29 31 37 40.
  • Yan Ruyu — Entrusts him with the Demon Emperor’s Sacred Heart and becomes his intimate cultivation partner. He later intervenes to defend her against the Ji Family 44 47 48 50.
  • Qin Yao — Explains the Sacred Heart arrangement, monitors his progress, and coordinates his cultivation sessions with Yan Ruyu 44 45.
  • Chaos Green Lotus’s deity — Gives him the Demon Emperor Scripture and advises Yan Ruyu about combining her Azure Emperor bloodline with his chaos 48.
  • Ji Family elders — Enemies who seek his death and sword inheritance. He destroys one elder’s imitation Void Mirror before the battle escalates to Emperor Weapons 50.
