Background / History
The Azure Nether Tower was forged by Jiang Hong, who wielded it throughout his life. When Qing Ming developed sentience, he acquired all of Jiang Hong’s memories. Those memories effectively allowed him to share Jiang Hong’s experience of watching Jiang Yun grow up, explaining his familial affection for the boy 11 14.
Qing Ming and Jiang Ya jointly suppressed the Saint Heavenly Demon Flame left within Jiang Yun. Although their efforts damaged its origin and appeared to erase its will, the child flame remained intact—a condition that later allowed the Saint Heavenly Demon Emperor’s consciousness to survive 14 42.
After saving Jiang Yun, Qing Ming brought him to the Dou Qi Continent. He chose the destination instinctively because it possessed the most extraordinary aura, rather than because he fully understood its unusual flames or hidden history 11.
Appearance
- Illusory manifestation: Appears as an ethereal figure within the tower; his body can gradually become more solid 11 14.
- Profound eyes: His gaze is described as seeming capable of seeing into a person’s heart 11.
- Aged voice: Speaks to Zi Yan in an elderly voice 45.
- Visible instability: His figure becomes more insubstantial when angered by Jiang Yun’s reckless plan in the Magma World 41.
Personality
Qing Ming is affectionate toward Jiang Yun but values ambition, composure, and earned achievement. He approves of Jiang Yun’s determination to change the Evil Spirit Clan’s fate and praises his ability to resist becoming overwhelmed by temptation. After Jiang Yun first refines the flame, Qing Ming insists that the opportunity would have meant nothing without the boy’s own capability 11 12 15.
His usual approach is to let Jiang Yun fend for himself, intervening only occasionally. This independence has limits: he tests Jiang Yun before permitting dangerous flame refinement, rebukes reckless decisions, and urges him to rest after an exhausting struggle 14 31 41 44.
He also enjoys teasing Jiang Yun, posing a question about the continent’s extraordinary flames before admitting that he does not know the answer himself. Beneath that playful manner lies fierce loyalty: when the Saint Heavenly Demon Emperor emerges, Qing Ming is prepared to destroy himself if necessary to protect Jiang Yun 11 42.
Abilities & Skills
Tower Control and Protection
- Draws Jiang Yun into the tower’s internal space and returns him to the outside world 11 12.
- Communicates directly within Jiang Yun’s mind 31 34.
- Envelops Jiang Yun and Zi Yan in azure light before they enter the secret realm’s inner region 37.
- Strengthens the barrier around Jiang Yun and stands guard during his refinement of the Fallen Heart Flame 44 46.
- Offers to do his best to preserve Jiang Yun’s soul if the confrontation with the Saint Heavenly Demon Emperor fails; this remains a promise, not a demonstrated rescue 41.
Flame Suppression and Handling
- Jointly seals the Saint Heavenly Demon Flame with Jiang Ya. Even as a child flame, it is powerful enough to severely wound a Heavenly Sovereign 14.
- Keeps the sealed flame at the tower’s base, bound by dozens of energy chains 14.
- Tests Jiang Yun’s tolerance of the surrounding heat before allowing refinement, then uses cooling energy to relieve him 14.
- Retrieves a tiny offshoot suitable for Jiang Yun’s initial attempt as a Dou Zhe 14.
- Limitation: Suppression does not eliminate the Saint Heavenly Demon Emperor’s consciousness while the child flame survives 42.
Perception and Knowledge
- Senses traces of battles involving dozens of Heavenly Sovereigns on the Dou Qi Continent, including numerous Outer Realm Evil Clan participants. He cannot locate their remains 12.
- Detects a faint, familiar fluctuation from the secret realm, though he initially cannot identify its source with certainty 32.
- Identifies the Soul-Eating Clan and explains its soul-devouring cultivation, bloodthirstiness, and hostility even toward fellow Evil Clan members 37.
- Recognizes that the Bodhi Tree is already dead despite its remaining vitality 38.
- Can manifest beside Jiang Yun without being visible to Zi Yan on that occasion 38.
Cultivation and Bloodline Guidance
- Explains that Jiang Yun needs a cultivation method before refining the flame and warns against methods beyond his current capabilities 14.
- Places the Bodhi Tree’s remains behind Jiang Yun during the soul battle, allowing their pure energy to flow into his violet vertical eye 42.
- Recognizes the danger of Zi Yan’s Ancient Void Dragon bloodline awakening without baptism. He warns that reckless use of inherited techniques could destabilize or lower the grade of her bloodline 45.
Relationships
- Jiang Hong — Creator and lifelong wielder of the Azure Nether Tower. Qing Ming inherited his memories and affection for Jiang Yun upon becoming sentient 11 14.
- Jiang Yun — Protected youngster and beneficiary of his guidance. Jiang Yun initially reserves the place of his true grandfather for Jiang Hong, but later also addresses Qing Ming as “Grandpa Qing Ming” 11 14.
- Jiang Ya — Collaborator in suppressing the Saint Heavenly Demon Flame. Qing Ming later declares that Jiang Yun truly is the Evil Spirit Clan’s hope 14 42.
- Zi Yan — A companion he warmly approves of and advises. She respects his knowledge and regards him as Jiang Yun’s only family in this world 45.
- Saint Heavenly Demon Emperor — A feared threat whose surviving consciousness exposes the limits of Qing Ming and Jiang Ya’s suppression efforts 42.
- Demon Saint Jinglian — Earns Qing Ming’s admiration for sealing the Soul-Eating Clan member’s lingering evil energy. Qing Ming believes he might have reached Heavenly Sovereign, potentially even Immortal Grade, without the restrictions of his world 37 38.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Jiang Yun’s Early Cultivation
During their first meeting inside the tower, Qing Ming asks what Jiang Yun wishes to become. Jiang Yun’s answer—fulfilling Jiang Hong’s dream and rejecting the Evil Spirit Clan’s treatment as cannon fodder—wins his approval. Qing Ming then reveals the sealed flame as a future source of growth and the continent’s traces of ancient Heavenly Sovereign battles 11 12.
Once Jiang Yun reaches Dou Zhe, Qing Ming oversees his first flame refinement. His assistance continues afterward as Jiang Yun gradually absorbs more of the Saint Heavenly Demon Flame 14 15 18.
Secret-Realm Expedition
Qing Ming’s unusual intervention persuades Jiang Yun to investigate the dangerous Black-Corner Region secret realm. Inside, he urges him to seek all three altar treasures, accompanies the pair into the inner region, and explains the Soul-Eating Clan’s identity. His recovered strength then enables him to support Jiang Yun’s decision to claim the Bodhi Tree and demonic corpse 31 32 34 37 38.
Magma World and the Soul Battle
Qing Ming opposes Jiang Yun’s uncertain plan to use the Fallen Heart Flame against the hidden Saint Heavenly Demon Emperor, but remains beside him. Unable to decide the soul battle himself, he supplies the Bodhi Tree’s remaining energy and watches Jiang Yun endure repeated attacks on his soul 41 42.
After Jiang Yun wins, Qing Ming first confirms that the awakened boy is truly himself. He then guards the subsequent flame refinement, reassures Zi Yan, and advises her about her unstable bloodline. At the end of seclusion, he tells Jiang Yun that two years have passed 43 44 45 46.
