"Pufferfish, huh..." Heath rubbed his chin. It was a very unusual food. Though delicious, its toxicity meant it still occasionally killed people. In China in earlier times, in particular, quite a few people had died from eating pufferfish. Heath himself was not especially fond of fish, though, so he had never eaten it.
"Far?" Farfetch'd looked at Heath curiously, seemingly very interested in what pufferfish tasted like. Heath glanced at Farfetch'd, feeling a little nervous. He knew his wretched system very well. What if it suddenly gave him a task to teach Farfetch'd how to prepare pufferfish...
Heath could not help recalling Farfetch'd's previous task: teaching Farfetch'd to prepare an edible serving of See-the-Light-Die all by itself. That task had really put Heath through the wringer. After all, it was See-the-Light-Die, a poisonous wild mushroom. If Farfetch'd failed to prepare it properly, it could kill a customer. If Farfetch'd were now asked to make a pufferfish dish, the likelihood of it proving fatal would be about the same. What was even more frightening, though, was the difficulty.
See-the-Light-Die was not particularly difficult to prepare. It could even be called simple. Pufferfish, however, was far more difficult-absurdly difficult, even. See-the-Light-Die only needed to be cooked thoroughly to be edible, but cooking pufferfish thoroughly was not enough. Its poisonous parts also had to be removed, and that was extremely difficult.
The toxins in pufferfish were often concentrated in the ovaries and liver, but different varieties could contain different toxins. Even pufferfish of the same species living at the source and mouth of the same river could contain different toxins. It was a very unusual poisonous creature.
