"Hey, hey, hey, don't go~" Seeing Tian Meng leave, Leng Xiyue hurried after him, but he was moving so quickly that he had already disappeared around the street corner.
Soon, however, Leng Xiyue caught up with him, because six or seven people had surrounded him.
At their head was a little girl in a white dress, only about seven or eight years old. She was staring darkly at Tian Meng, who looked rather at a loss.
Leng Xiyue approached and saw a pile of fragments on the ground, though she could not tell what they had been. It seemed Tian Meng had accidentally broken something of theirs while fleeing.
A spiritual power expert like Tian Meng, with his good habits, naturally scanned his surroundings with his spiritual power at all times to protect himself. For something like this to happen, those two dishes must really have shaken him badly.
"Miss, this was my fault. I'm willing to compensate you for your loss." Tian Meng silently swept the area with his spiritual power and discovered that the little girl's attendants were all Soul Ancestors and Soul Kings.
That meant she must have a powerful local family behind her, so Tian Meng did not dare act too boldly. He knew Leng Xiyue wanted to keep a low profile, and it would be bad if this incident brought her trouble.
"Compensate me? Do I look like someone who needs money? This treasure of mine was a crystal doll I finally managed to commission from a master craftsman. I'd been looking forward to it for ages! How could its worth be measured in money?"
The girl walked up to Tian Meng and looked him over, then broke into a contemptuous smile. "A country bumpkin like you, who crawled out of some little city to come 'beg' from us in Heaven Dou City, could never understand its value. Still, I'm feeling merciful today. Kneel down and kowtow to me three times, and we'll call it settled."
The girl's words were viciously cutting, nothing like what one would expect from a child her age. Her reason for mocking Tian Meng was simple. Though his clothes were respectable, they could be bought casually from any street shop. Usually, the people who bought such clothes were out-of-town merchants or members of the middle class chasing luxury goods. To old-established aristocrats, these people were really no different from dogs begging for scraps.
Even so, plenty of people wanted to become dogs and could not find a way in.
"You've gone too far!" Tian Meng's face flushed red at her words. He had never suffered this kind of humiliation from other soul beasts before. Now that he had become human, if he still let a little girl push him around, wouldn't his transformation have been for nothing?
With that thought, Tian Meng was ready to strike. He was no longer the power bank he had once been; he now possessed an endless array of spiritual attacks. In this era, Soul Masters specializing in spiritual power were as rare as phoenix feathers and qilin horns, and every one of them could fight above their level. A single surprise attack at close quarters would be enough to turn all these people into idiots.
But when he thought of Leng Xiyue, he stopped.
The girl said nothing, merely watching Tian Meng with a mocking expression.
Tian Meng took a deep breath and finally said, "All right. As you wish, miss."
With that, Tian Meng started to kneel.
"Hold it!"
Leng Xiyue walked slowly over and stood in front of Tian Meng. Looking at the arrogant, overbearing girl, she said coldly, "Aren't you taking this a little too far? My brother is a mighty Soul Emperor. How could he kneel to you?!"
"Oh? Is that so?" The girl looked at Leng Xiyue. Rather than getting angry, she grew interested. No one had ever dared speak to her like that in her entire life.
The girl turned to one of the Soul Kings accompanying her. "You. Kneel."
At her command, the Soul King dropped to his knees on the spot without another word. There was even a hint of flattery on his face, as though this were as natural as eating or drinking.
Leng Xiyue immediately felt this would be difficult. Spoiled heirs who did not know how high the heavens were or how deep the earth ran, yet had wealthy, powerful families that made them hard to provoke, were the most irritating kind. After all, in this world, being in the right did not matter. The bigger fist ruled supreme.
Fortunately, she had anticipated something like this and put on a human-skin mask beforehand. Even if things escalated, she could simply reveal her Spirit Hall token in the end. Who would dare say anything then?
Still, handling things that way would be far too brazen.
"Little Yue, don't worry. I don't think you necessarily need to use your Spirit Hall identity. Don't you still have that little dagger? I think that alone would be enough to make whoever's behind her surrender, without you needing Spirit Hall's name to protect yourself." Xiao Bai had the air of a spectator who never minded trouble getting bigger. Seeing a fight about to break out, she hurried to give Leng Xiyue a dose of reassurance, as though afraid they might not fight after all.
"You mean that Hidden Dragon Society?" Leng Xiyue was no fool. She had long since guessed most of the story concerning her original self's parents, and later, Xiao Bai had simply told her everything.
But what good did that do? Her original self might have a long-lost older sister, but Bibi Dong would surely have sent people to search for her. If they had not found her after all these years, worrying about it herself would be a waste of effort.
"Of course. From what I can tell, the Hidden Dragon Society has at least a dozen Titled Douluos backing it, and there are bound to be Super Douluos among them. With strength that formidable, even the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect, one of the Heaven Dou Empire's most powerful elites, wouldn't dare provoke them, would it? Making a bigger scene might even help you get in touch with them."
"Now that you also have your Spirit Hall identity, the Hidden Dragon Society certainly wouldn't dare use force against you. They'd be more likely to invite you back. With your current talent and standing, you might even inherit what your parents left behind."
"That makes sense. Then let's make a bigger scene..." Leng Xiyue nodded, then looked at the girl with a mischievous grin. "So, you're determined to make enemies of us?"
Leng Xiyue's gaze made the girl feel a little unnerved, but she still shouted, "Yes, that's exactly right! I've changed my mind. I'm going to have both of you seized and see whether you can keep your dignity like this once you're on my turf!"
"Seize them!"
At the girl's command, the surrounding onlookers immediately looked regretful. This Little Demoness was used to throwing her weight around Heaven Dou City. As the young miss of the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect, who would dare provoke her? These two outsiders were going to come to grief here.
"Just what I wanted!"
Leng Xiyue did not panic in the slightest. Watching the six attendants approach, her second soul ring flashed briefly, and she drew her gun so quickly that even its afterimage was hard to catch. Then she fired six shots straight away.
With the boost from second gear, what should have been six gunshots were compressed into just two. In a single second, all six attendants stopped in their tracks and reached for their faces. Looking at their hands, they saw crimson blood trickling down their cheeks. Only then did the searing pain strike.
Leng Xiyue smoothly reloaded her Revolver, then stepped forward with a smile. "Gentlemen, I've already been very merciful. If I can do this, I can just as easily put a hole in your heads. Judging by your standing, you don't seem to be members of this young miss's family. Most likely, you're retainers or something of the sort. Why throw away your lives for this little bit of money?"
