Abilities & Skills
Food and Water Enhancement
- Repairs damaged fruit: the bruises, scrapes, and rotten patches on two peaches disappear overnight, leaving them plump and fresh 2.
- Enhances apples and peaches beyond simple restoration. Eating the peaches replenishes Lin Shisan’s strength and loosens his cultivation bottleneck; an enhanced apple helps him break through to Second Body Tempering 3 5.
- Improves porridge, steamed buns, and drinking water, allowing Lin Shisan to replenish his strength during prolonged bamboo-cutting work 5 7.
- Supports recovery through its enhanced provisions. After eating and cultivating overnight, Lin Shisan finds that his chest wound has stopped bleeding and begun to scab, though the injury remains 6.
- Enhanced fruit is noticeably different from ordinary fruit: Feng Qingye detects the inferior taste of a purchased apple after previously receiving cauldron-evolved apples 47 49.
Pill Enhancement
- Restores a ruined Body Tempering Pill to a round, smooth, fully formed Two-Pattern Body Tempering Pill, bearing two ring-shaped Pill Marks 16.
- The restored pill contains more abundant spiritual energy than an ordinary Body Tempering Pill 16.
- Lin Shisan attempts to increase its markings further by returning it to the cauldron, but the pill disappears while a cultivation scroll remains inside. No three- or four-mark result is demonstrated 17.
- Later serves as a concealed means of evolving Spirit Pills and Body Tempering Liquid, although their resulting grades are not specified 47.
Cultivation Manual Advancement
- Restores the yellowed, tattered Tai Chi Body Tempering Manual to a new-looking scroll titled Nine Revolutions Star Art 18.
- Its twenty pages initially appear blank. Starlight subsequently enters the scroll and reveals golden characters, including instructions for the Nine Heavens True Dragon Art 18.
- Lin Shisan suspects that the scroll absorbed the missing Two-Pattern Body Tempering Pill to fuel its advancement. He considers the cauldron consuming the pill as another possibility before favoring the scroll explanation 21.
- The Nine Heavens True Dragon Art later shows apparent signs of further advancement, with additional fine print appearing in the text 44.
Processing Time and Limits
| Test | Observed result | Timing / limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Damaged peaches | Restored to fresh, unblemished fruit 2 | Discovered the following morning 2 |
| Porridge and steamed buns | Lin Shisan concludes that their quality has improved, despite no visible change and unchanged taste 5 | Leads him to estimate a minimum processing time of four hours 5 |
| Ruined Body Tempering Pill | Becomes a Two-Pattern Body Tempering Pill 16 | Takes ten hours; Lin Shisan concludes that higher-grade items require longer 17 |
| Marked Spirit Stone | Remains unchanged; the scroll also shows no change 21 | No upgrading, duplication, or removal of its marks occurs overnight 21 |
- Dao Seed awakening remains unconfirmed. Lin Shisan notices something indistinct in his dantian when the cauldron flashes, but later examination reveals no Dao Seed 6.
- Dantian restoration is not immediate. Even after eating an evolved apple and completing ten cultivation circuits, Lin Shisan’s depleted dantian shows no response that night 45.
- Its nature remains uncertain. Lin Shisan initially takes its seven-colored light as reassurance that it is not demonic, but later fears that someone with an opened heavenly eye might identify it as a Demonic Artifact 5 44.
Background / History
Discovery in the Furnace Dump
Lin Shisan finds the cauldron while searching the Pill Room’s refuse heap for a vessel to hold offerings before his father’s memorial tablet. He chooses it because it is intact, intending to replace it after receiving his monthly allowance. That night, he places two damaged peaches inside; their restoration the next morning is the first sign of its unusual power 2.
Expansion of Its Uses
After enhanced fruit helps him advance his cultivation, Lin Shisan begins testing other contents. His Pill Room work gives him access to discarded pills, and he considers buying ruined pills, upgrading them, and selling a portion to finance his own cultivation. He buys his first test pill from Zheng Qian for forty Spirit Coins and places the Tai Chi Body Tempering Manual inside alongside it 5 13 16.
The successful pill restoration is followed by an unexpected disappearance: the upgraded pill vanishes, while the manual emerges transformed. Lin Shisan checks his room and the hair placed on his door latch but finds no evidence of an intruder 16 17 18.
Disappearance and Recovery
For safety, Lin Shisan leaves the cauldron behind when taken to Jade Maiden Peak, fearing that an experienced cultivator might recognize its value. On returning to his former courtyard, he finds both the cauldron and his father’s memorial tablet missing. Tiny Waist asks Han Yansong to recover them, while Lin Shisan deliberately avoids mentioning the cauldron when questioning Chen Yang 24 32 33.
Han Yansong returns the cauldron at Coiling Dragon Cliff before Lin Shisan leaves for Deer Gate Mountain. There, Lin Shisan initially keeps it hidden in his Storage Ring. After his father’s memorial tablet is also returned, he places the cauldron in his study as an apparent incense burner, concealing its continued use to enhance cultivation supplies 41 44 45 47.
