Mobile Unit officers were paramilitary riot police, and could be said to stand on the front line of all kinds of crime.
In this department, firearms training was naturally a top priority.
Inside Mobile Unit Headquarters in the New Territories stood a paramilitary training base with the most comprehensive facilities and the largest scale on Hong Kong Island.
The Mobile Unit's Special Duties Unit, better known as the Flying Tigers, trained there in their day-to-day operations.
To ensure the combat effectiveness of Mobile Unit officers, even the Regional Headquarters where the various companies were stationed had shooting ranges of considerable size.
At that moment, apart from the officers required to remain on duty,
the dozen or so members of Second Squad had gathered at the shooting range, fully armed and led by their commander, Kwan Man Chin.
"Bang... bang... bang..."
Sergeant He Wenzhan led the way as all the officers took part in the first round of target practice.
There was no denying that the officers who served in the Mobile Unit were worthy of the title of elite police officers.
Using .38 Revolvers against circular targets at fifteen meters, even the lowest score was forty points.
That was a good result by the standards of the entire Police Force.
The two sergeants, He Wenzhan and Shao Meiqi, had both achieved the excellent score of fifty points.
Shao Meiqi in particular, despite being a female officer, ranked among the very best marksmen in Second Squad.
Although they were only shooting at stationary targets, she could certainly be said to prove that women were every bit as capable as men. She was truly impressive.
After the officers had finished their target practice, Kwan Man Chin smiled at Zhou Quan, who stood beside him.
"Ah Quan, how about showing the lads what you can do?"
He chuckled, his voice full of anticipation.
At that, He Wenzhan, Shao Meiqi, and the other officers couldn't help turning their attention to Zhou Quan.
Ever since he had first handled firearms, Zhou Quan had never scored anything less than a perfect score.
This was just a small scene. How could he possibly get nervous?
"Then I'll ask the lads to give me a few pointers."
Zhou Quan smiled confidently and walked straight over to a firing position that had not yet been used.
Seeing this, Kwan Man Chin and the others gathered a short distance behind Zhou Quan.
The officers there were especially curious to see what kind of impressive result Sergeant Zhou, so highly praised by their own Big Gang, could achieve.
After putting on his safety glasses, Zhou Quan calmly took out his service pistol.
He removed the cylinder and poured out all the rounds inside.
Normally, each officer's service pistol was loaded with six rounds, with twelve spares issued as well.
Even drawing a gun required a report afterward, let alone actually firing it.
So during firearms training, they didn't use their own ammunition. Instead, they used training rounds provided by the shooting range's Gun Room.
Zhou Quan loaded the training rounds into the cylinder with a speedloader, then flicked his wrist and snapped the cylinder shut with a smooth, decisive motion.
It was only because the Hong Kong Island of the 1980s was overrun by major robbers that the Police Force had changed.
Otherwise, Zhou Quan would still have had to load the rounds one by one.
With the rear sight, front sight, and bullseye aligned, Zhou Quan pulled the trigger without hesitation.
"Bang... bang... bang..."
All six rounds were fired in quick succession, in a steady rhythm.
"Sixty... sixty points... a perfect score!"
A few seconds later, the shooting range's target caller spoke up, sounding somewhat surprised.
"Sergeant Zhou is awesome!"
The next moment, the officers behind Zhou Quan cheered as one.
Although they didn't yet know what else Zhou Quan could do, his sharp shooting alone was enough to win them over.
As Mobile Unit officers, they were all police officers on the front line of crime.
Having a colleague with such precise marksmanship in their squad made them feel completely at ease.
"Clap, clap, clap!"
Even Kwan Man Chin, who already knew some of Zhou Quan's abilities, couldn't help applauding.
"Your Sergeant Zhou is this year's recipient of the Shirley Shield. How impressive is that? How fierce?"
Kwan Man Chin looked around at the men beside him and loudly cheered Zhou Quan on.
"Sergeant Zhou is impressive and fierce!"
The lads were happy to play along, cheering for Zhou Quan together.
Zhou Quan's expression remained calm. He even felt that it hadn't been enough.
After all, since his days at the Police Academy, the only firearm he had handled was this .38 Revolver.
With the Firearms Mastery achievement reward, he naturally longed to try out other, better firearms.
"It's a shame the lads can only be issued these .38 pistols."
With another flick of his wrist, Zhou Quan smoothly swung out the cylinder and ejected the spent casings. He spoke with some reluctance to stop.
"I can't change our service weapons just because I'm a mere Inspector," Kwan Man Chin said with a chuckle. "But if Ah Quan only wants to try out some other handguns, that's no problem."
As he spoke, Kwan Man Chin turned to He Wenzhan beside him and gave an order. "Sergeant He, I remember there are a few Brownings in the shooting range's Gun Room. Go fetch one and let Ah Quan try it out."
"Yes, sir!"
He Wenzhan nodded and hurried off to the Gun Room.
A few minutes later, he set a gun case on Zhou Quan's shooting bench.
"M1935. Magazine capacity of thirteen rounds, effective range of fifty meters."
Opening the case, Zhou Quan took out the pistol, which was in almost new condition, and spoke as if he knew it by heart. "It's a World War II-era pistol, but it's much more reliable than our .38s."
The M1935 was also known as the Browning G35 Automatic Pistol.
Zhou Quan's instincts let him understand everything about the pistol at a glance.
The gun had been around for more than fifty years, but its excellent performance and practicality meant it was still the main sidearm of the Foreigners' Federation forces.
Among the Police Force at present, only the Flying Tigers had been officially issued some.
Zhou Quan performed a dazzling series of movements, stripping and reassembling the pistol in just ten seconds. Kwan Man Chin and the others once again cried out in amazement.
After filling the magazine, Zhou Quan crossed his hands and pulled back the slide, chambering a round.
Then he removed the magazine again and inserted one more round.
This was a habit Firearms Mastery had given him, ensuring that the gun carried the maximum possible number of rounds.
Next, he looked toward the target caller and said confidently, "Sorry for the trouble. Please raise five moving human-shaped targets fifty meters away."
As a range used for the Mobile Unit's regular training, it naturally couldn't be limited to stationary targets at fifteen meters.
After all, moving human-shaped targets were the training method that most closely resembled actual combat.
"Yes, sir!"
The target caller answered from a distance, then immediately activated the moving human-shaped targets fifty meters away.
"Bang... bang... bang..."
The instant the targets rose, Zhou Quan began firing in rapid succession.
On the last human-shaped target, he landed one shot in the heart and one between the eyebrows.
Every other target took Two to the Torso, One to the Head.
This shooting method, with its tremendous practical value, immediately stunned every officer at the range.
