Su Yu’s Request and Lin Mo’s First Arrest

Dugu Liuli initially avoids involvement in Zhu Fan’s death because the Enforcement Hall’s master has not ordered a pursuit of the killer. Su Yu nevertheless persuades her to arrest Lin Mo, presenting the case as an opportunity to earn merit. Liuli is reluctant to offend the Saintess, whom she regards as a likely future sect leader, and unsuccessfully attempts to leave responsibility for Lin Mo’s punishment to her 44.

After Su Yu reveals that Liu Ziyan is away, Liuli leads enforcement disciples to Lin Mo’s hut outside the Purple Heaven Palace. She arrests him without conclusive evidence, asserting that evidence is unnecessary when dealing with servant disciples, and deliberately avoids the Vermilion Bird Squad on the way back 44 45.

Her interrogation shifts toward Lin Mo’s relationship with Shangguan Wuqing. When her Charm Art fails, Liuli threatens to publicize their dual cultivation partnership, exposing him to Wuqing’s jealous admirers. After Wuqing leaves for the Ninth Mine Vein, Liuli arrests Lin Mo again over Zhu Fan’s death. She renews her earlier demand and tells him not to expect Wuqing’s rescue. Lin Mo instead warns that her fixation on surpassing Wuqing could develop into a heart demon and endanger her cultivation 48 49.

Liuli initially denies her jealousy, but accepts his argument that she should improve herself rather than undermine Wuqing. Her rivalry with Shangguan Wuqing stems from feeling overshadowed by Wuqing’s popularity among the Enforcement Hall’s male disciples, particularly Zhuiming and Iron Hand.
