Mystic had actually had a pretty easy time in the first four games.
Even though this was the all-important qualifier final, he hadn't felt much pressure.
Because Mystic knew perfectly well that he would get his farm and take over the game late!
In fact, everyone on WE had been supremely confident of winning!
But now...
Watching the Caitlyn on his screen weave in spirals and push her positioning forward, Mystic finally remembered the terror of being utterly dominated.
The moment he arrived in lane, Lu Chen hovered at the edge of his range and landed an auto on his Xayah.
Mystic tried to turn and poke him with the feathers from Q, only for Lu Chen to dodge with a ninety-degree cutback, then answer with a predictive Q through the minions that hit Mystic!
WE had lost the first trade badly!
"Wow, ChenYu's lane pressure is incredible!"
Remember couldn't help marveling. "If I remember correctly, he's won bot lane in practically every game since his debut, hasn't he?"
"Yes," Godlike confirmed with a nod. "I've never seen him fall behind."
As they spoke, Caitlyn was already pushing the wave relentlessly.
With the range difference and their inability to outmaneuver him, Mystic and Ben could only keep backing off. They didn't dare contest level two.
A little over two minutes in, IG's duo hit level two, and the lane became even uglier.
Mystic didn't even dare walk up for last hits!
It was only the second wave, and the CS gap had already reached five!
"C God: heard you had a great time beating up our West, out-CSing him every game? That's not right. Let me take you on instead."
"Holy crap, this is C God's lane pressure!"
"Mystic, put up a fight! Weren't you a beast before?"
"Poor Mystic. Uzi gave him an AD gap in playoffs, and now he's run into C God."
The viewers in chat weren't the only ones getting anxious. WE were getting anxious too.
Condi asked in a low voice, "Should I come bot?"
In the current patch, junglers cleared the entire side they started on.
Condi's Jarvan IV had just finished clearing his bottom-side jungle. He still had Red Buff, and he was level three as well.
Mystic glanced at the Caitlyn who was already pushing toward his tower. After a brief hesitation, he nodded. "Then let's gank him!"
They were all top-tier professionals.
Naturally, being pressured this hard had left Mystic angry.
No matter how good your mechanics are, surely you can't win a two-versus-three at level three?
Caitlyn was different from champions like Draven. Her early pressure didn't come from high damage, but from her range advantage.
Once an actual fight broke out, Caitlyn didn't have enough burst damage.
"What's Jarvan IV planning? Is he coming straight down for a bot gank?" Remember's voice rang out. "IG have a ward in the river!"
Godlike added, "But IG's bot duo have already pushed all the way to the tower. If they wait until they see Jarvan IV to leave, it'll definitely be too late."
In professional play...
If you dared to push up, you were very likely to get ganked.
That was an immutable rule.
The more aggressively a player played, the more attention he received from the jungler.
"Jarvan IV's coming," Baolan warned quickly, looking at the minimap.
"It's fine. We can fight," Lu Chen said calmly, his hands never stopping. "Back off first."
As Jarvan IV reached the river brush, Caitlyn and Alistar both began retreating, making it look as though they didn't want to fight.
"I'm here!" Condi shouted, steering Jarvan IV around from the side.
"Go!" Mystic immediately called. "Kill the AD first!"
Condi focused intently on his screen. Once he was close enough, he fired an EQ combo straight at Caitlyn!
At the same moment, Lu Chen smoothly used E to pull back.
Condi's pupils contracted slightly, and he slammed Flash. "Get hit!"
EQ Flash!
Jarvan IV abruptly vanished from his original position. An instant later, he appeared where Caitlyn's E had carried her!
But he still missed!
Caitlyn used a short-range Flash to appear a little farther back, then turned and planted a headshot on Jarvan IV.
Condi's breath caught. In that moment, he could almost feel his resolve shattering.
"IG's bot duo are in serious danger here! Jarvan IV's already arrived; they shouldn't be able to escape, right? EQ into Flash! The knockup-huh? It missed?!"
Remember's eyes widened. "What a fast reaction! No, could that have been a prediction? They used Flash at almost exactly the same time!"
After all...
Jarvan IV's EQ Flash technique wasn't like Gragas's E Flash.
His EQ Flash dealt no damage, only crowd control. Its whole strength lay in speed and surprise.
Even in professional matches, hardly anyone could dodge that kind of crowd control.
"Engage on the jungler!" Lu Chen commanded.
Without any hesitation, Baolan charged in with a WQ combo, knocking Jarvan IV into the air, then activated E to start charging it.
Meanwhile, between auto attacks, Lu Chen placed a trap beneath Jarvan IV's feet.
The moment Jarvan IV landed, he stepped straight onto the trap and took another headshot!
By then, Mystic and Ben had finally arrived.
Braum used W to jump to Jarvan IV, raised his shield, and fired Q forward. Predictably, it missed again.
Lu Chen's Caitlyn remained unhurried, weaving between auto attacks.
The scariest part was that he had been standing in the brush the entire time!
Caitlyn's passive empowered her next basic attack into a headshot after every six autos.
But while she stood in brush, each auto counted as two!
In other words, he could fire a headshot every three attacks!
Mystic tried to deal damage to Caitlyn, but Lu Chen's spacing made attacking her agonizingly difficult!
"Jarvan IV missed his crowd control! Braum can't apply his passive either!" Remember cried. "Xayah can't get her autos off! No one can stop this Caitlyn now!"
"My god! Even the casters couldn't figure out how to fight a two-versus-three, but C God can show you how to win!"
Another headshot flew out, and Condi's Jarvan IV gave up his life.
"First Blood!"
"IG ChenYu has slain WE Condi!"
Red Buff transferred straight to Caitlyn.
"Back off! We can't fight this!" Condi shouted urgently.
After being kited down to low health and using Heal, Mystic finally gritted his teeth and Flashed toward his own tower.
Just as he finally managed to breathe a sigh of relief...
Click-
The sound of a trap triggering came through his headset, freezing his expression.
A trap!
"I so love a good chase."
A thousand units away, the sniper rifle in Caitlyn's hands locked on, and a headshot tore across the distance!
Then Xayah, with only a sliver of health left, could only stand there as Red Buff burned her to death.
"Double Kill!"
"IG ChenYu has slain WE Mystic!"
An uproar erupted!
Both inside the venue and outside it, countless spectators burst into astonished cries.
"That actually worked?"
"Three people ganked two, and two of them died instead?!"
"Holy shit, when did he put that trap down?"
Godlike quickly explained, "He placed that trap earlier, when Caitlyn pushed up to the tower. That was some seriously long-range setup."
Remember also marveled, "All I can say is that trap placement was brilliant. Xayah had already escaped, but she still couldn't dodge Caitlyn sniping her from a mile away."
This was a little Caitlyn trick.
Placing a trap against the tower could position it just behind the tower's base.
Unless you moved your camera over, you couldn't see it.
Plenty of players had stepped into Caitlyn's traps that way.
Of course, as a professional player, Mystic would normally never miss something like that.
Unfortunately, he had just lost a three-versus-two fight, leaving his composure in tatters. Then he had Flashed under the tower, with no time to look for it.
That was why he had stepped right onto it without warning.
