Background / History
Lu Chen was reborn into the setting in 2015, taking over the body of a player who had just signed a two-year contract with RNG’s academy. After awakening his system, he deliberately stayed out of the spotlight and earned upgrade points through Ranked games. He even moderated his win rate to conceal his ability, reasoning that the beginner mission had neither a deadline nor a failure penalty 1.
His concealed strength left him with a mediocre academy record and very few opportunities to play. By June 2017, RNG had shown no intention of renewing his contract. Rita, his childhood friend and the owner of the rented apartment where he stayed, arranged a caster trial to keep him from becoming unemployed. Having finally maxed his attributes, he refused and committed to becoming an LPL starter 1 18 22.
Lu Chen specifically wanted IG’s ADC position. He did not want to join RNG’s main roster, citing both Uzi’s presence and his dislike of the club 6.
Appearance
- Young and handsome: IG’s receptionist and manager both remark on his youthful appearance when he arrives for his tryout 7.
- Slim build: Ning Wang calls him skinny while encouraging him to eat more at the team’s welcome dinner 17.
- Clear eyes and a bright grin: His introduction to the IG players emphasizes his clear gaze and visible white teeth 7.
- White clothing: Wears white at his IG tryout and in the photograph displayed alongside his debut MVP statistics 7 37.
- Sharper competitive bearing: His relaxed manner changes noticeably when a match begins or he prepares to return to competition 8 25 40.
Personality
Lu Chen’s caution is primarily about preparation, not timid gameplay. He spends two years strengthening himself because he considers losing with a system advantage embarrassing. Once fully prepared, he becomes openly ambitious, declares himself capable of becoming a legend, and requests a short contract so his next deal can reflect his results 1 2 16.
He remains composed under competitive pressure. He shows little nervousness before his first scrim or official match, ignores hostile livestream comments, and calmly directs teammates during enemy collapses. His spectacular debut also produces a notably understated reaction in the post-match interview 8 21 26 37 43.
His confidence often takes a teasing, deadpan form. He gives his stream a self-deprecating title, jokes with Rita, and delivers blunt interview answers that quickly become popular online. Despite his swagger, he credits Ning Wang, Rookie, and TheShy for their contributions to his successful tryout 4 16 18 37.
