Background / History
Dugu Jue was recognized as the Dugu Family's foremost genius and one of the Heavenly Martial Domain's two original “monsters,” alongside Tantai Mingyue. His name ranked first on the Heavenly Martial Pavilion's Name-Leaving Wall; he and Tantai Mingyue were the only entrants at the time to clear all seven trials, leaving their names in purple. 563
Before Ye Chen's rise, Dugu Jue had never lost to a peer. Across nearly a thousand battles, his only non-victories were draws against Tantai Mingyue. This undefeated record formed the foundation of his invincible heart and absolute confidence in his own talent. 598 656
His mother died when he was young. Later, he entered the Dugu Family's Demon Cave, a forbidden ground saturated with demonic influence, to confront the negative emotions and inner demons that haunted him. The ordeal sharpened his control over despair rather than consuming him; when he emerged, the cave no longer affected him. 644 704 1014
During the war against the Devil Race, Dugu Jue watched two Demon Kings kill his father, the Dugu Family patriarch. The loss drove him into a violent surge of grief, rage, and despair, substantially evolving his Blade Intent and combat power. 1005 1014
Appearance
Dugu Jue is a solitary, sharp-featured young blade wielder whose appearance increasingly reflects the nature of his despair-based path. He initially appears in a silver robe with a slender long saber at his waist and notably long, strong fingers. 597
- His hair becomes gray-white or snow-white as his power and control of despair deepen. 651 870
- During the Blade of Despair, one of his eyes burns with a ghostly white flame, giving onlookers the sensation of being dragged into hell. 653
- After reaching the Life and Death Realm, his gaze is described as cold, clear, and sharp enough to make others feel their souls being cut apart. 1003
- He carries a long, gleaming white battle saber in later years. 1142
Personality
Dugu Jue is cold, direct, and fiercely self-assured. He regards combat as the proving ground of talent and considers only opponents capable of genuinely threatening him worthy of his attention. He does not mistake reputation for strength, instead emphasizing the small details—combat experience, resolve, technique, and reactions—that determine victory between geniuses. 597 599
His desire to surpass powerful opponents is relentless. He treats Ye Chen as his true lifelong rival, while viewing many other celebrated geniuses as temporary obstacles on his path. Even after suffering his first defeat to Ye Chen, he does not lose resolve and instead becomes more determined to surpass him. 652 656 658
Despite his willingness to risk himself in battle, Dugu Jue is not recklessly suicidal. He withdrew from a hopeless arena match against Ye Jianhuang when he judged that the overwhelming difference in strength offered no possibility of breakthrough. 1285
Abilities & Skills
Blade Intent of Despair
Dugu Jue's defining ability is the Blade Intent of Despair, a will that attacks an opponent's emotions and spirit as well as their body. It can induce panic, helplessness, mental collapse, and a sense that resistance is meaningless. 598 610
- His intent can affect nearby spectators, causing pale faces, mental disorientation, and involuntary spasms. 610 652
- He draws strength from his own despair and from the despair his opponent experiences. 653 655
- Despair heightens his senses, allowing him to perceive attacks that would otherwise overwhelm him. 655
- Early uses of his true Blade of Despair caused severe mental exhaustion and required him to strike his own forehead to regain clarity. 610
- By his duel with Gu Lie, he can restrain the intent until the decisive moment, showing far greater control over its dangerous backlash. 706
Blade of Despair
The Blade of Despair is Dugu Jue's signature finishing move. It condenses his despair into an overwhelmingly fast and lethal blade strike that can overwhelm defensive True Essence, armor, fighting spirit, and the will to resist. 598 610 653
- Defeated Taishi Chong after Taishi briefly gained the upper hand in their rematch. 610
- Shattered Xiao Chuhe's Sea-Splitting Three Blades and left one of the Five Great Prodigies unconscious. 653
- Injured Gu Lie through his Protective True Essence and helped secure Dugu Jue's dominant victory. 706
- Its activation can turn Dugu Jue's hair gray-white and awaken a ghostly white flame in his left eye. 653

Dark Spirit Body
Dugu Jue is rumored to possess the Dark Spirit Body and cultivate Dark True Essence, which is considered more potent than ordinary True Essence. 599
- His natural physical strength is estimated at roughly 300,000 jin, supplemented by spiritual herbs that enhanced his body. 655
- His physical power, despair-enhanced perception, and blade mastery make him especially dangerous in close combat. 655
Exceptional Aptitude
Dugu Jue possesses world-shocking cultivation aptitude. He passed all seven Name-Leaving Wall trials, ranked first among a thousand recorded names, and was considered one of only three prodigies of his era after Ye Chen's emergence. 563 599
