Background and History

Rescue and Family Life

Chen Beiwu rescued Iron Egg after a truck struck him as a puppy. Surgery saved his life, but the veterinarian discovered that his disabled hind legs were congenital, not caused by the accident. Further treatment was expensive and potentially fatal, so Chen brought the black puppy home and named him Iron Egg in the hope that he would survive and grow strong 3.

Iron Egg later carried Chen Beiwu’s unconscious father out of a burning, collapsing brick kiln. The rescue greatly raised his standing in the family and prompted Chen to consider making him a Companion Beast. Chen initially hesitated because Iron Egg’s fire attribute conflicted with his own water-and-wood cultivation foundation 3.

Alchemy Training

Iron Egg agreed to remain with Li Wan’er and tend her furnace fires, although leaving Chen Beiwu for roughly half a year troubled him. His exceptional progress surprised the Alchemy Hall: in just over half a year, he could refine first-tier upper-grade pills. Li Wan’er suggested that his congenital disability might be connected to his alchemical talent and asked to accept him as a nominal disciple 164 201.

During a later reunion, Iron Egg presented Chen with seventy-six jade bottles accumulated through his alchemy. His own rapid cultivation had been funded by treating the hall’s spirit pills as daily meals 253.

Contract and Dual Evolution

Chen delayed contracting Iron Egg to avoid disrupting his planned Primordial Origin Golden Core. He also considered leaving Iron Egg with his father, but ultimately decided to find his father another suitable fire-attribute beast instead 288.

Iron Egg rejected several established evolution paths before choosing to pursue both the Karmic-Cleansing Burning Dragon and Candlelight Radiant Lord legacies. Their extreme-yin and extreme-yang fires violently conflicted during the transformation. After forming their Companion Beast Contract, Chen supported the evolution with fourth-tier resources, the Pure Yang Fire Mirror, and his scenery. When Iron Egg’s aura collapsed, Chen expended two-thirds of his Golden Core’s origin to elevate the source of his bloodline and save him 308 312 335.

The resulting form did not match an existing Immortal Alliance evolution path. When invited to name the new race, Iron Egg chose “Iron Egg” 339.

Reincarnation and the Sun–Moon Path

Concerned about Chen Beiwu’s future lifespan, Iron Egg favored studying a reincarnation technique that might help his master overcome the limits of mortality. He subsequently demonstrated affinity with the Transmigration Stele, where Yuyue Guardian helped him awaken his bloodline and reach Demon King perfection 604 612.

During his ascent to Demon Venerable, Iron Egg faced a Great Sun manifestation connected to the Sun-Devouring Divine Lord. Rather than base his true form solely on the Yuyi Great Dao, he derived a broader path of sun and moon waxing and waning. He chose the riskier foundation because he wanted to catch up with Chen and become someone his master could rely upon 688 689.

Appearance

• Original form: A black dog with four snow-white paws and congenitally disabled hind legs 3 253.
• After healing: Walks steadily without limping, with a bearing compared to dark clouds treading snow 284.
• After dual evolution: Stands ten feet tall at the shoulder, with obsidian-colored fur, enlarged claws, black-and-gold flame-wreathed fangs, and a powerful vertical forehead eye. Black fire clouds form beneath his paws 335.
• Demon King form: Reaches five zhang at the shoulder. His black fur carries brilliant flames, golden flame vapor supports his steps, and his forehead marking alternates between the appearance of a sun and an eye 412.
• Yingze True Form: His fur shimmers gold and silver. Three miniature sun-like lights surround his left pupil, while a changing lunar light appears above his right pupil. His forepaws leave golden sun traces and his hind paws leave moon traces 689.

Personality

Iron Egg’s defining trait is loyalty to Chen Beiwu and his family. He shields Chen despite being frightened by stronger enemies, refuses to attack him even during an equipment test, and willingly risks his life against attacks that could kill him. His desire for strength comes primarily from wanting to protect his master rather than securing personal prestige 20 70 462 492.

He is affectionate with Chen and his family but selective about accepting familiarity from others. At the Alchemy Hall, he resists Hall Master Sun’s attempt to pat his head, regarding that privilege as belonging to Chen’s family rather than even his teacher. Despite his growing power, he remains an openly delighted, tail-wagging dog when Huang Xiaoling pets him 253 573.

Iron Egg generally treats Golden Egg’s rivalry with patience, regarding him as an immature child. He sincerely congratulates his companion’s breakthroughs and initially shows little interest in sparring or competing for favor. He nevertheless becomes increasingly willing to face powerful opponents when doing so can improve his ability to protect Chen 278 312 339 436 462.

He can speak human language after becoming a Third-Realm Demon General, but prefers barking. His determination can become stubbornness: he refuses to abandon the dangerous dual evolution and endures severe pain rather than break his promise to succeed 334 335 339.
