"You idiot, didn't you wear diapers as a kid?"

Wu Di took a jab at Ma Xiaoshuai.

"How are diapers the same as these things?" Ma Xiaoshuai shot back.

"What's the difference? Don't they both go against your ass?"

"One catches pee, the other catches blood."

Wu Di froze, then gave Ma Xiaoshuai a thumbs-up, conceding defeat.

Luo Wenjie picked up a sanitary pad and examined it closely.

"It's even the largest size. Looks like our senior has a pretty big butt."

"Now that's an ass-tute observation."

Wu Di laughed and swore at him.

"You can even figure that out? Impressive."

Luo Wenjie shook his head regretfully.

"Man, I thought we might find some underwear or stockings she'd left behind. Got excited for nothing."

"Fuck!"

"Shit!"

"Damn!"

"This guy's a total pervert. Everyone keep your distance."

Well, then.

In just half a day, Luo Wenjie had utterly destroyed the handsome, sunny image he'd presented when they first met.

"There's a note here."

Han Xu dug a slip of paper out of the box.

A line of graceful handwriting ran across it.

"Dear juniors, welcome to your new dorm room. I've prepared this welcome gift for you, and I hope you find it useful."

After reading the note, Luo Wenjie gritted his teeth.

"She did it on purpose. Definitely on purpose."

"She knew we were guys, and she still said she hoped we'd find them useful."

"She's obviously mocking us."

"Oh, give it a rest. You've got her meaning all wrong."

Chen Fan couldn't take it anymore. He stood up and gently nudged Ma Xiaoshuai aside.

He reached into the box and took out a few sanitary pads.

"What are you doing?"

Without a word, Chen Fan took out the military boots they'd been issued that evening and stuffed the pads inside.

At the sight, the other boys' eyes instantly lit up.

"Holy shit. So that's what they're for!"

Wu Di caught on first and lunged straight for the box.

"Mine! Nobody fight me for them!"

"Damn, have you got no shame? I found them first!"

"Split them evenly! Nobody gets to grab extra..."

Once they'd finally divided up the pads, Luo Wenjie sighed regretfully as he stuffed his share into his shoes.

"What a wonderful senior. If only she'd left her contact details."

Beside him, Ma Xiaoshuai deliberately burst his bubble.

"Don't forget, she's a grad student. She's at least four years older than you."

"And who knows how many boyfriends she went through during her four years of college?"

"Can your 0.1-millimeter refill satisfy her 1.0-millimeter pen barrel?"

Luo Wenjie looked momentarily stunned, then couldn't help cursing at Ma Xiaoshuai.

"Fuck, that was brutal!"

At last, they finished getting ready, turned off the lights, and lay down in bed.

On their first night of college life, everyone was too excited to sleep.

So Wu Di suggested a traditional freshman ritual.

The six roommates ranked themselves by their birth dates.

After some discussion, Wu Di became Number One, Luo Wenjie Number Two, Sun Hao, the Sichuan boy, Number Three, and Chen Fan landed the Number Four spot.

The innocent Han Xu was Number Five, while Ma Xiaoshuai became Number Six, the youngest.

Military training officially began.

All the freshmen assembled in formation on the sports field, in areas assigned by school.

Chen Fan chatted with his roommates in the ranks, but his gaze kept searching through their class.

By the time their formation began moving onto the field, Chen Fan had scanned every student in his class three times.

His mood immediately sank.

Su Ruochu wasn't there.

They hadn't been assigned to the same class.

Chen Fan began searching the other classes around them.

But the School of Economics and Management was one of Cloudsea University's larger schools, with a huge number of students.

And everyone wore the same training uniform. Finding Su Ruochu among one or two thousand people was no easy task.

Even after they entered the field and started lining up, Chen Fan still hadn't found Su Ruochu.

He could only give up for now, planning to look for her again during the lunch break.

The instructors marched onto the field in neat ranks.

Soon, a buzz-cut instructor only about five foot seven jogged over to Chen Fan's class.

The girls let out admiring gasps.

Standing beside Chen Fan, Luo Wenjie was deeply annoyed.

"What's wrong with their eyes? They call that handsome?"

They lined up, learned the training commands, then practiced standing at attention.

On their first day of military training, they spent the entire morning doing nothing but standing at attention.

The moment the instructor announced the end of the session, groans erupted throughout the ranks.

Their backs felt ready to snap.

"Number Four, quick! Give me a hand. My poor back's about to break."

Luo Wenjie threw an arm around Chen Fan's shoulders and howled in pain like a pig being slaughtered.

Chen Fan and Wu Di supported him as they joined Ma Xiaoshuai and the other two, then all headed to the cafeteria together.

Generally speaking, all six roommates doing things together like this was something you only saw when freshmen had just arrived.

Once military training ended and everyone gradually adjusted to the rhythm of college life, roommates would start doing their own things because of their habits, romantic relationships, or closer friendships.

By then, seeing all six roommates go to the cafeteria together would be next to impossible.

Seeing Luo Wenjie limp along clutching his back, Ma Xiaoshuai couldn't resist taking a jab at him.

"Come on, Number Two. Is it really that bad?"

"We all did the same training as you. Why are you the only one like this?"

"It's only the first day."

Luo Wenjie waved a hand, his face full of pain.

"Bad planning. Really bad planning."

"Guys, yesterday was the last day of college registration, so my high school girlfriend and I had one last round of breakup sex."

"Fuck, I got a little carried away. Tried too many different things."

"And now my back can't take it today..."

Wu Di immediately shoved him away.

"Fuck, are you showing off? You're showing off on purpose, aren't you?"

Luo Wenjie smiled bitterly.

"I'm really not. I figured since we were breaking up, I ought to give it my best and make sure she never forgot me."

"Get lost. I'd have to be a fucking idiot to believe you."

During their bedtime chat the night before, Chen Fan had gotten a basic idea of what his five roommates were like.

Of the five, only Number Two, Luo Wenjie, and Number Three, Sun Hao, had girlfriends.

But now Chen Fan had his doubts about Luo Wenjie's claims.

Sun Hao's girlfriend, on the other hand, was definitely real.

They were in a long-distance relationship, and he'd made his first long-distance call to her before bed the night before.

After eating at the cafeteria, Chen Fan said goodbye to the others.

"You guys head back to the room. I've got something to do."

"Where are you going?"

Wu Di asked curiously, "You'd better not wander around during training. If the student council catches you, they could dock your points."

"I'm going to the girls' dorm."

With that, Chen Fan was already off like a shot.

The five others were left staring at one another.

"Where did Number Four just say he was going?"

"I think... the girls' dorm?"

Luo Wenjie asked curiously, "Does Number Four have a girlfriend?"

That left the others bewildered all over again.

"He didn't mention anything about that when we were talking last night."

Wu Di speculated, "Could Number Four already have his eye on someone?"

Luo Wenjie suddenly clenched his fist in excitement.

"Hey, I remember now! During training, Number Four kept getting distracted. His eyes were constantly roaming over the girls in the other formations."

"The way he stared, his eyes were practically popping out."

Now everyone was even more curious.

"Has Number Four really already found someone?"

"I never would've guessed. He kept the lowest profile yesterday and barely spoke. I thought he was the most innocent of us. Turns out he's pretty crafty."

Wu Di, however, looked impressed.

"Comrades, even Number Four, who looks like the most innocent guy here, already has someone in mind."

"A sense of urgency! We need a sense of urgency..."
