Gu Sheng: ...
He looked through it again. No mistake-these were the items.
The guaranteed three-star pull was that blue pinstriped suit.
Gu Sheng already had his hand under the edge of the table, ready to flip it.
After taking a few deep breaths, Gu Sheng took out the suit. The moment he touched it, something felt off. It was considerably heavier than an ordinary suit, and the texture was different too. It didn't feel like normal fabric.
After examining it for a while, Gu Sheng finally figured out what the suit did.
Bulletproof and stabproof.
But that didn't mean it would cancel out the impact.
It did distribute the force, but it was nowhere near as effective as the aluminum oxide ceramic plates inside a bulletproof vest.
In other words, bullets wouldn't penetrate the suit, but whether the impact would break his bones was another question.
Gu Sheng thought it over. At first glance, this thing hardly seemed worth the guaranteed three-star pull, but on reflection, it wasn't bad. At least he wouldn't have to worry about getting shot.
And if someone shot him at close range with a handgun, the worst he'd suffer would be broken bones...
As for rifles, that was harder to say.
Then Gu Sheng found a slip of paper in a suit pocket: carbon nanotube material, bulletproof, stabproof, cut-resistant, fadeproof and shrinkproof (important).
"Fuck!" Gu Sheng tossed the slip into the trash and tried on the suit. It fit perfectly.
The style looked like something from thirty years in the future, with smaller, lower lapels, a slightly shorter hem, a more fitted cut, and a more vivid color.
Gu Sheng quite liked it. It looked much better than the loose-fitting suits people wore now.
Most importantly, this suit could withstand blade attacks.
Eight experience books per stack, sixteen in two stacks... Still, Gu Sheng couldn't shake the feeling he'd been ripped off.
The price had gone up tenfold, so why were there only eight books?
Was this a twenty-percent discount in reverse?
There wasn't much to say about the gun and grenades-standard equipment for hardened criminals. The gun even came with a full magazine.
The greatest advantage of items drawn from the system was that they had no traceable origin. Nobody could track them down.
Gu Sheng took out the Playboy magazine and leafed through it. He gave it his wholehearted approval, then put it aside to read later.
Then he did another ten-pull.
Gu Sheng finally saw what he'd wanted.
Bajiquan Fundamentals, a stack of experience books, and nothing but miscellaneous junk for the rest.
"It took the guaranteed three-star pull to get this. That's one star higher than Muay Thai. Is it really that badass?"
Gu Sheng learned Bajiquan Fundamentals immediately. A flood of knowledge surfaced in his mind, and it took him a long time to sort through it.
Bajiquan contained far more material than Muay Thai.
After all, it wasn't just unarmed techniques. It also included the Six Harmonies Big Spear, Spring and Autumn Saber, Big and Small Six Harmonies Sabers, Eight Staff Heads, Pure Yang Nine Palaces Sword, and more.
At its core was the Six Harmonies Big Spear. Even its unarmed strikes used the spear's methods of generating power, though Bajiquan's unarmed techniques were no slouch either.
"Hard-hitting with both fists and spear!"
Still, he suddenly understood why that man he'd encountered before had been able to leave him reeling for so long with a single punch.
Bajiquan's methods of generating power really were interesting: coordinated, forceful, explosive, and sudden.
The memories in his head included stance training and striking posts, forms and power training.
In fact, the forms were also a way to understand power training and learn how to apply force.
Actual combat mostly relied on individual moves. For example, stepping forward onto someone's toes, then driving an elbow into their chest. Combined with Bajiquan's foot-stamping and power generation, it packed quite a punch.
If nothing else, that stomp alone would crush the opponent's toes.
Of all the moves in Bajiquan, that was the one he liked best-even more than its various elbow strikes.
It stood alongside the Groin-Kicking Leg as one of the twin champions of dirty fighting.
He'd gotten twenty-four experience books this time. A decent haul.
Gu Sheng opened his panel to upgrade his skills, only to discover that Bajiquan also required more experience to level up than his other skills.
Other skills needed only 100 experience to advance from LV1 to LV2, but Bajiquan needed 200.
"So this is how Chinese Martial Arts fell into decline! How am I supposed to level you up when you're this expensive? The same amount of experience would get another skill to LV5, but you'd only reach LV3..." Gu Sheng was heartbroken.
After thinking it over, Gu Sheng raised Muay Thai to LV6 first, then Bajiquan to LV3 and Judo to LV2.
All sorts of memories involving Muay Thai, Bajiquan, and Judo surfaced in his mind.
Waves of warmth welled up inside his body, strengthening his physique considerably.
But that all came from Muay Thai. Bajiquan and Judo barely changed his body at all.
Gu Sheng wasn't particularly surprised. As his physique improved, low-level skills would have a hard time producing further physical changes.
"This Bajiquan really is pretty interesting."
Gu Sheng sorted through his memories of LV3 Bajiquan and discovered that its Six Great Opens... He hadn't thought much of them before, but now that he'd reached LV3, he could see there was quite a bit to them.
"Looks like every level of Bajiquan opens up a whole new world. You've got to dig deeper before you can see what a lot of this stuff is really about."
Although Bajiquan hadn't improved his physique, its power-generation methods and certain moves had still increased his combat strength somewhat.
His panel now read:
Physique: 7.9 Muay Thai (refined) LV6 (3000/6000) Bajiquan LV3 (800/1600) Filipino Stick Fighting LV3 (400/800) Shooting LV3 (400/800) Boxing LV2 (100/400) Judo LV2 (100/400) English LV1 (0/100) Japanese LV1 (0/100)
Piano, guitar, and cooking were all LV1.
He also had one experience book left.
The HKP7 pistol was pretty good too. It wasn't as powerful as the Big Black Star, but it was much more accurate and wasn't as prone to jamming.
When Gu Sheng went downstairs, Silly Fook and Ah Tung were already waiting.
Ah Tung's eyes were a little bloodshot. Clearly, he hadn't slept well last night.
After all, he'd received a huge bonus, enough to get him worked up. Besides, after driving Gu Sheng home last night, he'd still had to go with Mantis and the others to dispose of Gentleman Sing and his men.
"The bank first." Hung Lok still had six million in its accounts. Getting that money out was the priority.
Once he got into the car, Gu Sheng tossed Silly Fook a paper bag.
"Yours."
"Thanks, Brother Sheng."
"Give it to your mum when you get home. Have her save it for you. I'll find you a property in a little while. Buy it and move your mum in," Gu Sheng told him directly.
He knew Silly Fook's family situation. His mother was in poor health, and they were still renting a ten-square-meter rooftop room.
He also had a younger sister.
A new sixty-square-meter flat in Yuen Long cost around 150,000 now. Gu Sheng planned to have the people at the shop find one for Silly Fook later. They could get it for 130,000.
"Okay, Brother S." Silly Fook smiled guilelessly and set the bag aside.
"You big dummy. You didn't even check how much I gave you." Gu Sheng smacked him on the back of the head.
When they reached the bank, Gu Sheng waited in the car. An hour later, the two men came out of the bank and returned to the car.
"Brother Sheng, it's done." Silly Fook handed Gu Sheng a paper bag containing 500,000 in cash and several bankbooks.
"Find somewhere for morning dim sum."
Gu Sheng picked up his phone and called Big-Eyed Hua. "Tell Shui Dong to get two cars ready for me. A big Mercedes-the one we looked at last time. And an MPV, the kind we drove yesterday."
"Tell him to deliver them to Yuen Long once they're ready."
A Mercedes costing over a million was something even Big B couldn't afford to drive.
That was just what Gu Sheng liked. One look at the car, and people would already feel a head shorter than him. Now that was impressive.
Over the next few days, Gu Sheng kept recruiting men, and all of Tin Shui Wai became his business territory.
Nobody could match his prominence.
As for Hung Lok... That bastard Concrete had wanted to fight his way back in, only for the cops to sweep him up.
Tai Bo Ball, on the other hand, had fled fast enough. Word was he'd taken a boat to Thailand.
Three days later, Shui Dong delivered the cars, bringing them over personally.
"Brother Sheng, you're famous all the way to the moon these days! Everyone in Sai Kung is talking about you!" Shui Dong grabbed Gu Sheng as soon as they met.
"What's being famous on the moon? Just wait till I conquer it!" Gu Sheng roared with laughter.
"Take a look at the cars, Brother Sheng. What do you think? Brand-new. I've tested them both-not a single problem. Just right for a big boss like you!"
Gu Sheng walked around them and was quite satisfied. The car looked imposing at first glance.
He had Ah Tung take it for a couple of test runs, then paid on the spot.
"Don't forget to send some business my way next time, Brother Sheng!" Shui Dong made sure to say before leaving.
Gu Sheng was a major customer now. This car purchase alone had come to over a million.
Afterward, Gu Sheng went to the bank, withdrew all the money from those accounts, carried it back to the shop, and tossed it to Kong Sang.
There was only a little over four million, though. Gu Sheng had another use for the remaining million.
"How's the staff training going?"
"They're following the existing staff around right now. A few more days should do it," Kong Sang said.
"When they're ready, send them out to talk to property owners in each district first. Get at least one batch of deals settled. Then have someone contact the newspapers and TV stations and run ads. I want everyone on Hong Kong Island to know about Golden Harvest Properties."
"I should take a look around Causeway Bay in a few days." Gu Sheng felt that Causeway Bay was his now, but he hadn't even been there yet.
He could also pay that old fellow Uncle Hing a visit while he was there.
