After another busy day, Lier had slept soundly-

Then the Badlands' scorching heat had woken him up.

It was noon here. He checked the time on his Cyber-Eye: five and a half days had passed in the Cyberpunk World, half a day more than in the Marvel world.

It looked like the brief installation of the Octopus Arms had caused another disruption in the time flow between the two worlds.

"Wake up! Stop sleeping! We're heading back to the city today!"

V shook Lier awake.

The three of them had spent a few more days in the Badlands. One reason was to wait for things in the city to settle down. The other was that Lier needed to test how difficult it was to operate machinery across dimensions.

The answer was: not very difficult.

"Stop shaking me! You're going to turn my brain to mush!"

V pulled her hands back and said, still enjoying herself, "Aw, I just love shaking idiots."

When Lier's main consciousness was in the other world, his body here became more like a machine and could only carry out less complicated instructions.

So he seemed rather dull.

Lier glanced at V. "Then you should get up and shake your head every morning-where's Jackie?"

"Teaching the rookies to shoot."

"Get our stuff and bring the car around. We're getting ready to go."

"Woohoo!" V raised both arms excitedly, stretching as she headed toward the shooting range. "We're going back!"

After saying that, Lier set down the Aldecaldos history textbook in his hand and got up to leave the tent-

The camp had changed beyond recognition.

The Aldecaldos' main camp in Night City, and the former home base of the Red Ochre, lay in a small ravine. Only a few hidden paths led into it.
